I need a sanity check here.

You're going to a store. You see a sign that says:

AE Holiday Sale
~
All Sweaters
$29.95 and up

You were planning to buy a sweater that was originally priced at $48.00. Would you expect it to be on sale? I did.

The store manager told me that the sign meant all their sweaters cost at least $29.95 and they were having a sale. However, I did find a current season sweater originally priced at 39.00 marked down to 19.95, so that contradicts that explanation.

I bought the sweater anyway, because my DD liked it and it's the only thing she's asked for, but it really bugs me when stores that cater to kids engage in deceiving marketing practices. Do others find this deceptive, or am I reading the sign incorrectly?

A sign that says All sweaters $29.95 and up would mean to me that there will be several sweaters at several different prices none lower than $29.95. :)

It's the 'and up' part that gets ya. All a part of marketing.

AE had some great close outs this year. They usually save the major discounts until after Christmas. Even so their stuff is expensive especially when it ends up in a ball on the floor. ;)

Even when preceded by Holiday Sale? :(
