Its horrible, the Italian bread was the only one I could find that wasn't sweet or doughy. How I longed for a decent French stick. Does anyone like American bread?

Try Panera Bread - they have shops at Florida Mall and The Loop. Great bread, pastries, soup and sandwiches.

hi

i quite liked it, if i am thinking of the same thing a sort of brownish bread which was quite sticky and nice with a bit of butter a bit like irish soda bread. but then after a hard day at the parks anything would probably taste good.

It depends on the bread and what you use it for, we like the crusty rolls you can get from Publix. Similar to what you can buy in the UK
The sliced bread 'butterbread' I think they call it (what we buy anyway), makes really nice toast but is not great for sandwiches because it does have that sweet taste to it.

We all love it and think we ate more bread out there then would normaly do here. :thumbsup2

We love the bread, there is so much choice.
You can wholemeal and oatmeal, we usually choose these!

How do you define American bread? When I lived there I pretty much ate the same types of bread that I eat here! :confused3

I love american bread! Especially with the whipped butter! YUMMY!

Another vote for the fresh baked bread from Publix.
We used the French sticks and rolls a lot.

Basic "American" bread is that stuff that's made in a factory and sold sliced in a plastic bag, off the shelf in every grocery store. It's light brown on the outside and white on the inside with a very thin crust. When fresh it's very soft. Brands include Wonder, Butternut, Merita (made in Orlando) as well as the cheaper grocery store brands like Publix and Winn Dixie.

But if you go to the deli in the grocery stores (especially Albertson's and Publix) you'll find a huge variety of other baked in the store breads: French bread, Italian bread, Cuban bread, Portugese bread, Chicago Hard Rolls, etc. Some are soft, some are crispy, some are chewy. There are also fresh specialty breads baked in the store.

There is definitely no shortage of variety. The basic "American" bread is the cheapest though and you can alway find a fresh loaf, even in gas station convenience stores.

also try wonderbread-just like ours, no difference

Which bread in the UK does it taste the same as?

I found the sliced white bread (for toast, for instance) very disappointing (very airy, light and too finely sliced). We mainly eat brown bread here but have white on the w/end (as DH prefers it) I only really use brown for sandwiches here but didn't have the need for sandwiches whilst there so must confess didn't try the brown.
We had nice french sticks and croisants from Publix though. :thumbsup2

Must admit we have always found the sliced bread totally different, but then we always tend to buy the same kind 'butter bread' I think it is called.
Perhaps some of the sliced bread is similar to the UK but having tried a few different types I have found this not to be the case.

As I said earlier makes great toast but not suitable for sandwiches.
