Amber's Get Healthy Journal (Comments Welcome)

We went out last night. I was bad and had country fried steak w/ gravy, mac-n-cheese, & a biscuit. Then after dinner my dad said we were going to Bruster's for ice cream. I couldn't decide on one flavor. I wanted chocolate w/ peanut butter swirl, but they didn't have that. So I got 2 scoops, one of the peanut butter crunch & one of the double chocolate. I don't think that I even ate half though, I just wanted to be able to mix the flavors. The rest is in the freezer.

Well, after that Yummy dinner... I had an upset tummy the rest of the evening :sad2: That will discourage me from doing that again soon. Today began TOM, so could be related. I have not felt good all day. Crampy and my stomach still isn't right.

When I came home from work I layed down on the couch. I knew that I should exercise today, but I just didn't want to or feel like it. I tried to take a nap. My mom showed up and left cause I was not up to walking. Then like 15 minutes later she came back w/ my sister. :confused3 They had walked a tad and were coming to get me. So I gave in and went for the walk. It didn't really help me to feel any better, but it did wake me up a little bit. We didn't walk fast, in fact kind of slow. We did a mile, plus I walked the mom's house and back (almost another .25) & it was right at 30 minutes. Something is better than nothing.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna eat for dinner. I had my usual breakfast and then red beans & rice for lunch. The plan is red beans and rice for dinner, but I am thinking maybe some soup or something for me instead. Not sure what my stomach is going to do :crazy2:

On the good side, I weighed after our walk today. I am down another pound! :woohoo: Baby steps. :teeth:

For dinner last night I ended up having a salad w/ fried chicken strips in it. I bought it as a chicken ceasar at the grocery store, but the lettuce in their salad was weird tasting. So I made my own salad and just added the chicken to it.

Today we slept Really late! I needed the sleep though, I was feeling really run down. But now here it is after midnight and I'm not really tired. So I am going to get my sleep schedule all messed up, but oh well.

Today I ate:
Lunch - red beans & rice
Dinner - Bison burger, hotdog, potato salad, roasted lima beans (mom & dad came over and grilled out, the bison was yummy)
Midnight snack - leftover ice cream :teeth: I'm eating it while I type :smooth:

We did a little shopping today. Not much else. It was a gloomy day early on and we figured we would watch movies all day. Turns out we didn't even watch one :confused3 We did clean up the living room today which was much needed.

After dinner I forced Dh to get up and play some badmitton w/ me and mom. We bought a volleyball set and badmitton a couple of weeks ago. We haven't set the net up yet though. We just hit it around for a bit. It was fun. We got a good workout just laughing at how bad we were :rotfl: We played for about 25 minutes. I worked up a decent little sweat while playing too. I am going to count 20 minutes toward my exercise today.

My cousin is coming over tomorrow w/ her 3 girls. If the weather is nice I hope to set up the net and we can all play for awhile. That should be some good exercise! :cool1:

I stayed up till 3:30am this morning! :confused3 Not sure why, we just kept goofing off on our computers until it was Really late. I wanted to get an MP3 player. I want to use it while I exercise. We finally found one we think we like and even found it on sale online. This was at like 2am. It was at circuit city and we figured we could just go in and pick it up today. Well we went in first thing today and it wasn’t on sale anymore! :furious: They said that the sale ended on Saturday! :furious: I was SO mad! The “off sale” price was $30 more, but if you go online and order it from anywhere else it is even cheaper than their sale price. We decided to just eBay it which was the cheapest option. But that means that I didn’t get to bring it w/ me to Athens. Oh well, I will have it for the next out of town trip in two weeks.

Today my aunt and cousin brought BBQ for lunch to celebrate my grandparents’ anniversary. I had a BBQ sandwich, baked beans, salad, & potato chips. Then it turns out that they both brought a cake. :confused3 One was homemade pound cake w/ frosting and the other was store bought w/ my grandparent’s picture made into the icing. I was bad and ate a piece of each.

After lunch we set up our volleyball net. My cousin didn’t stick around to play & DH got a call for work, but my sis and I attempted to play. We are both BAD at volleyball and it was more like one person serves and the other person runs after the ball. We quit that and played badminton w/ the net instead. It was pretty windy which made it difficult but we had a good time. My mom was able to join us after a while. We played for an hour and a half total. Most of the time I was alone on my side and mom and sis were on the other side together. At the very end DH finished his work and joined us. It was a lot more fun w/ 4 people, but it was getting late and I still had to pack before leaving for Athens. I got a pretty good workout in those 90 minutes though.

For dinner I had Italian once I got here in Athens. I ate Way too much bread, then a caesar salad. The entrée was lemon rosemary chicken w/ vegetables & angel hair pasta. The flavor was Very mild and there was not really any sauce on the pasta. I didn’t really like the veggies so I didn’t eat much of them. I ate about half of the chicken and most of the pasta. I was too full, I should not have eaten so much.

I have checked into my hotel and will be here until Friday. I plan to get some good exercise in while I am here. :yay: :yay:
Hope everybody had a good weekend! Have a good day tomorrow! :sunny:

Scott - you are in Trouble... with that sneaky little September 2006 trip in your siggie! I had things to do today and as soon as I saw that I haven't been able to think of anything else but going back to Disney! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I know DH won't approve another trip this year, so instead of moving on w/ my life I am sitting here trying to figure out if any of the people I know who have kids could afford to go! :rotfl: I figured that for my cousin & her dh to take there 3 dds it would cost just under $2000 and that is for Park Hoppers and staying at Port Orleans (cause value resorts only hold 4 people) I think that is a great price! :Pinkbounc I wan't to call and tell them they MUST go. I think I must come down from the Disney buzz some first... :teeth:

Woo hoo free dining!! :woohoo:

Why won't DH approve of a return trip?? Didn't you say he caught some of the Disney magic last September?? You must find a way to go back!! :stir:

Sorry to sidetrack you, but you have to admit there is nothing better to be sidetracked about than Disney :thumbsup2

Ahh, yes... DH did catch some Disney magic last September. When I told him Free dining was back he said, "if I didn't want a new computer so bad, I'd say We're There" I was a bit surprised! We had agreed that as fun as it was we probably wouldn't go back until we have kids. But w/ his response, I'm thinking maybe Sept. 2007 we could possibly go again, as long as Free dining comes back! :sunny: This year we have the House that we are buying, so we will probably only do some Super cheap trip late in the year. Next spring we are hoping to take a trip to Spain too! :cool1: So we are saving vacation money for that. I guess I will have to just live vicariously through you guys! :sunny:

Food today was just ok... I had oatmeal for breakfast w/ milk. Lunch was a buffet. I had a big salad and some potato soup. Then I had mac n cheese, mashed potatos, fried green tomatos :teeth: , & corn. For dinner I went to On the Border. I ate too much chips & salsa and therefore drank too much tea ( that salsa was Hot). When my meal came I could hardly eat any of it. I ordered empanadas, a chicken enchilada, & a soft taco. It came w/ refried beans & rice. I ate 1 empanada, most of the taco, about 2 bites of the enchillada, and a few bites each of the rice & beans. I brought the rest back to the hotel, but I am not sure when I will eat it. :confused3 I jut couldn't stand to throw it away.

On the Treadmill today I did Really good! :cheer2: I kept it on a 3.0 incline. My walking was at 3.5 - 3.7 & my jogging was 4.5 w/ a tiny bit of 4.6 & 4.7. I wanted to spend at least 40 minutes and I wanted to jog during most of it instead of doing my 2/1's 6 times and then walking the rest of the time. So today I did 3 minutes of walking between jogs. Then I did 8 jogging intervals instead of 6! :cheer2: On the 7th I had some kickin music going, so I really got into a groove. I bumped it up to 4.7 and went for 1.5 minutes! Then I still felt good and went for that 8th interval. :cool1: I was happy, cause it seems like maybe I am starting to be able to push a little bit more. My right calf is still a little bit tight and was giving me a tiny bit of trouble early on, but I stretched an extra time early in my walking and it seemed to loosen it up. I ended up doing a total of 3 miles in 50 minutes! :woohoo: Afterwards I spent a good 5 minutes stretching to try to eliminate some of my aches & pains I've been having.

Yesterday I mentioned the mp3 player I want. Well, in the meantime I had been using a CD walkman and it skips when I run. So DH has a CD mp3 player that he gave me to use instead & burned my mp3's to a cd to use. It turns out that I should have stuck w/ my CD player. It is WAY less sensitive. The mp3 player completely resets if you bump it. I ended up holding it the whole time and even then it would reset if I moved it too much, ie. when I ran. :rolleyes2 It was Very irritating to say the least. I was happy to have some upbeat music though. Last time I was using my favorite band, Indigo Girls, but there music isn't the best workout music. I picked out some more up tempo music this time and it really got me moving! Can't wait to get my Real mp3 player! :cool1:

See you guys tomorrow! :sunny:

Step by step you're getting there!

Spain, ooooHHHH!! I want to go back SO BADLY!!! I used to take HS kids there each summer when I was teaching - seems like a lifetime ago!

Do you eat the Kashi crunch? I love it, but now I almost always mix it with light yogurt instead of with milk. It's really YUMMY!!

Hope you're having a good week!

Julie - When we get closer to planing I'm gonna have to hit you up for some tips on where to go and what to see! :sunny: I'm excited!
I like the Kashi crunch, but I have been eating the Kashi Good Friends lately. I like most of the Kashi products though, they are yummy and filling!

Wow Amber, you are doing so great on the exercising! I dont have an mp3 player either for when I run. I dont like downloading stuff tho so I dont know if I would like it or not. I think I might just get one of those little armband radios to wear instead. It might help me, cuz now I just have little conversations in my head when I 'm running  Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2
:hippie:

Amber - looks like you're doing great on your exercise! keep it up!
My dh and i bought (on e-bay) the nike armband mp3 players (last year). they work great! you strap it to your upper arm, then the headphone thingys go up your back. there's a magnetic clasp that you hook on the back of your shirt so the wires don't get in the way. i love mine!
good luck & have a great week!!

marie

Linda - I tried the little conversations in my head, but they start sounding like, "when is this gonna be over" and "Geez, I've been at this forever!" in the first 3 or 4 minutes! :rotfl2: I do Much better w/ music of some sort!

Marie - I would have settled for this $20 model that I saw at Academy a couple of weeks ago, but Dh was wanting something that will hold a Bunch of mp3s. He started looking at the Ipod nanos, but then we found this Sandisk model that has 4G of room and it is a good bit cheaper. It looks to be about as good, just w/ slightly different features that we like better. It comes w/ an armband too. I am really looking forward to that! :cool1: It should be on its way in the mail, so I will get it when I get back home! I can't wait!

Today, I was really struggling to stay awake in my training class. It is interesting, but I was just not w/ it today. I have not exercised or had dinner yet. My plan for today is to walk to the downtown area to shop and eat dinner. It is about 1.3 miles from my hotel. I figure if I walk there, walk around and walk back it will probably be close to the 3 miles that I would have done on the treadmill. I would have left already, but one of the ladies in my class is staying in the same hotel and said she would like to go too. Well, I got to talking to her about it and she said that she wanted to go to the tanning bed first, then go afterward. I figured it might be nice to have the company and how long can it take to tan anyway? :confused3 Well, it is 5:30 and we got out of class at 4:30. I don't want to wait too much longer, cause I don't want to walk home in the dark. Oh well, I am going to give her a little longer and then I'm going w/ or w/out her.

I was bad on my eating today so far. For breakfast I went to BK. I really wanted a decent cup of coffee, cause the hotel coffee is just dirty water. I thought that BK had things like grits and eggs in addition to sausage biscuits, but I was mistaken. So I ended up w/ a sausage, egg, & cheese crossanwich. About halfway through it I took out the sausage and just ate the egg, cheese, and bread. Probably not too much bettter, but the sausage was Super greasy.

Lunch was Zaxby's and I had a buffalo chicken salad. I had them leave off the blue cheese, and only put half of the dressing on it. I am sure that it was still pretty bad though.

I will try to do better for dinner, but I have no clue what I will end up having.

Have a good night!

Ok, I did go downtown last night w/ the lady from work, but we drove to a parking lot that was only about 7-8 blocks from downtown. I didn't keep a good measure of our time walking, but I am pretty sure we did at least 25 minutes total. I also did about 5 minutes of walking during our breaks in class yesterday.

We ate italian. I had chicken & broccoli pasta in a roasted garlic sauce.

Today I ate:
Breakfast - cheerios & raisin bran w/ milk
Lunch - Capt. D's :guilty: I was BAD! Fried popcorn shrimp, french fries, corn, & jalepeno poppers. I didn't eat all of any of it and only about half the poppers.
Dinner - The Grit. I had split pea dal soup (Yum!), and the Golden bowl w/ cheese and veggies. It is tofu & rice w/ veggies. It was really good, but different from the last time that I had it.

I think this week I am doing my exercise not to loose weight but just to try to not Gain 30 pounds! :sad2: I know that I could eat ouut and still not blow my diet completely, but all of these bad foods are So tempting!

On the treadmill today I did just over 3 miles in 50 minutes (hit 3 miles at 48 min). I increased my jogging time to 1.5 minutes each time. :woohoo: I was able to do that w/out much trouble. I walked for 3 minutes between each jog. I ended up doing 7 jogging intervals! :woohoo: :cheer2: I was So excited and it kept me going to see that I was ale to maintain my jogging for the extended period! I did warm up longer than usuall. I walked for half a mile first. I wasn't sure if I should attempt to run today or not because I am still having some tightness and soreness in my right calf at times. But when I walk and stretch and warm up then it doesn't really bother me. I had some Very minor soreness in each calf while jogging today, but nothing that lasted for more than a minute or so.
After the treadmill I swam for about 10 minutes. I like to swim, but swimming by myself is boring so I don't stay long. After swimming for a bit I got in the hot tub! :cloud9: I Love hot tubs! It is so relaxing! I could just fall asleep in there. :teeth:

Have a good night!

Great job with the exercise!! I know that it is so hard to eat out and eat healthy so I think you are doing the right thing by just adding a lot of exercise!

your mp3 comments were funny....I often have those same conversations in my head when I start running ("wow, 3 more minutes and I'm tired already")!!

Whew. Been out of touch for a couple of days. I will try to catch up.

Thursday: It was my 4 year wedding anniversary and I was stuck in Athens 2+ hours away from my hubby. :( It wasn't the end of the world and not like the 1st year or 5th (not a big one). I started the day off not too bad. I had cereal for breakfast (I think). At lunch I came back to the hotel and walked on the treadmill for 17 minutes. I did just a teeny bit over a mile. Then I had leftovers from The Grit & On the Border. Oh, & I forgot to mention that on Wed. I got a slice of "chocolate death" cake from the Grit. I ate a little over half on Wed. and the other half at lunch on Thurs. Also one of the girls from class made cupcakes and I ended up eating 2 of those :guilty:
On to Thursday after work... Hayley, one of the girls from class who lives in Athens, said she would walk downtown w/ me. She also said that she wanted to go to happy hour at a bar there. So we walked and it took us about 30 minutes to get to the shops. We shopped some and then went to the bar. They had Cheap appetizers and cheap booze. So I got chicken fingers & chips w/ cheese dip. There were only 2 chicken fingers. At the same time we started drinking. I ended up having 2 regular margaritas and 3 double margaritas :drinking1 :rolleyes1 Ok, I should have gotten something else to eat, but I was STUPID and didn't. Then at 9 they had this thing where if you did a shot you got a t-shirt w/ it and it was only $5, so I couldn't pass that up. Well, I was good and lit by then. We left the bar and decided to go back to her house to hang out for a bit and play some drinking games :confused3 Don't know what I was thinking at this point. So we stopped at my hotel and I got the tequila that I had bought earlier in the week. I thought to myself that I should just stay at the hotel, but alas, I did not. At her house we played this game that in a BIG group will get you completely Trashed, and it was just the two of us :crazy2: So, 2 or 3 more margaritas later I was puking my guts out for the rest of the night  :faint: :headache: She put me to bed about 1am and I slept til 6:30am. When I got up I was SO thirsty, but everytime I tried to drink any water I would start puking again. I still had to get back to the hotel, get my stuff together, check out and get to work. :crazy2:

Needless to say my Friday did not start off well, or really get a whole lot better. I did manage to get my stuff together and check out. It was hard though, cause I kept needing to go back to the restroom and I was afraid to leave the hotel room in case I had another spell of sickness. I made it to work but I was 15 minutes late. Hayley had told the instructor that I was going to be late, but I still felt bad for being late. Then my stomach was still WAY off and I was Very miserable. I didn't pay attention too well. At the break I asked a friend to go get me some juice and anti-nausea meds. Everyone heard what was going on, cause I kind of busted out crying when I asked for the juice. I was SO miserable. One of my classmates had some pepto and the instructor gave me some crackers. Everyone was really nice. I have gotten too drunk in the past on a few occasions but I have NEVER been as sick as I was yesterday! I told the instructor what was going on and appologized a few times. I normally would not drink heavily on a work night, I don't really know what got into me :sad2: . I did get to feeling better by lunch, meaning that I could actually drink and eat a little and keep it down. I was So hungry too. I had some chicken noodle soup and half a turkey sandwich. I ate the other half on the way home. I was not really right all day and when I finally got home from Athens I went straight to bed. I slept about an hour and a half until DH got home. We went out for dinner. I was Really hungry but still unsure of my stomach. I had chicken fingers w/ wing sauce and ranch, corn, and mashed potatos.

I didn't get any exercise yesterday and have yet to get any today. I went to bed early last night and slept really late today. I still feel a little bit of residual effect from Thursday, but feel 95% normal today. Ugh, I won't be doing that again for a LONG time, really I hope to NEVER get that drunk again! Some of my classmates were like, "you didn't call me" and "what hotel are you staying at next time?" I was like, I ain't doing that again anytime soon! I did have fun though until I got sick :thumbsup2

So today for lunch we went to Panera Bread again. We are SO addicted to that place! It is So yummy and at least somewhat healthy. I had black bean soup & the Chicken Olivada sandwich, then a coffee. In a little bit we will go over to our friend's house to hang out and have dinner. I think we are having steaks :teeth:

Tomorrow everyone will be here for Easter so I am hoping we can get a good bit of badminton & volleyball in. :sunny:

Have a good day! :sunny:

Amber Amber Amber! :sad2:
I can only imagine how awful that was. Hope you are feeling better by now. I am a true lightweight, last summer I had to take a nap after 2 wine coolers! :rotfl2:

Happy Easter!
:hippie:

I feel better today :teeth:

For dinner last night I had steak, corn on the cob, salad, garlic bread, and half a deviled egg. Then for desert later we had some chocolate silk pie. Yum! I had a very small piece though :smooth: No exercise yesterday.

Today Dh and I actually got up and went to church w/ my parents.
I ate:
Breakfast - south beach chocolate bar
Lunch - Lots of mac-n-cheese, mashed potatoes, english peas, green beans, baked beans, boiled egg, & slice of chocolate cake. Of course my grandma said, "I got this cake just cause I knew you wanted chocolate" Thanks grandma. I do appreciate that she is thinking of me and chocolate is my favorite, but it so doesn't help me w/ the whole diet thing. Of course there is some left upstairs and I probably won't resist it too well.
Dinner - Chinese chicken and mixed veggies w/ steamed rice. I ate half of what they gave me and saved the rest to have for lunch tomorrow.

My cousin came over w/ her 3 girls. We had a big easter egg hunt for them. It is always a lot of fun. I helped to hide the eggs and then had to walk around the yard a few times to help look for the ones they missed. They are 7, 9, and 12 and we thought that we hid them too easy, but they still managed to miss a bunch. :confused3 After the egg hunt we played badminton for a while. It was so hot and bright out there and the wind was blowing too hard. Every time we would hit the birdie the wind would carry it either back toward the person or way over everyone's heads. We still had fun though. I am counting 30 minutes for the Easter activities.

Tonight after dinner Dh and I went out and walked around the lake and our property for 22 minutes. We basically just made 2 figure 8's. We just wanted to get in a little bit of "real" exercise today.

I am going to try to get back on track better tomorrow. I plan to walk for sure tomorrow and I will most likely do my jogging routine also.

Have a good week everyone! :sunny:

Wow Amber....at least you didn't break any bones!! Sorry to hear you were soooo sick!! that sucks!! I hate hangovers!!!
Glad you had a good Easter....sounds like fun!! I told DH that sometimes I miss being so far away from family on holidays like Easter....miss everyone being together.....

anyway, have a great week....stay on track (that's my motto this week!) and good job on getting in your exercise!!!!

marie

Yesterday:
Breakfast - oatmeal - no milk
Lunch - leftover chinese
Dinner - italian veggie spaghetti

Walked/Jogged w/ mom, sis, and Dh. We did 2 laps to warm up then 5 jogging/walking laps. On most of the laps we pushed past the 1 minute mark up to 1.5 on at least one. I just felt pretty tired during it. We did a cool down lap. It took us 38 minutes. I did not hurt in my legs at all yesterday. :cool1:

Today:
Breakfast - Kashi w/ milk
Lunch - leftover Cheddar's from Friday
Dinner - leftover Spaghetti (I think there is a pattern here :thumbsup2 )

Mom, sis, & I started before Dh got home tonight. We did 2 laps and then on the third started jogging. At the end of the 1st jog I felt a weird pain in my right knee and it was bad so I quit jogging. When I walked it didn't hurt, but when we stopped to stretch I felt it again. Sis was into jogging today, so she did on each lap. Well, I guess I must be more competitive than I realize. Since she was jogging, I would do at least some jog each lap. Some laps it didn't hurt and other laps I could only go a few feet :confused3 If I felt any pain while jogging I stopped. It was frustrating though cause when we were just walking I felt perfectly normal, so then I wanted to be able to jog too. I know that I have to be careful and not push myself too hard. I am thinking that I need to only run every other day and not 2 days in a row. I just have to stick to that when my sis who is 6 years younger has the energy and wants to jog. I've created a monster! :teeth: She wouldn't have considered jogging a few months ago. Guess that is something to be proud of. :sunny:

K, I'm Really tired tonight. Gonna go chill out for awhile. Have a good night!

Amber...great job on the exercise. And you are so right to slow it down if anything hurts. BIG mistake I made with not doing that and it looks like I will be laid up for at least a few more days. I am determined to get right back on the horse tho, as soon as I can. Not yet tho I have to let it heal up completely this time.

Are you done with classes now or do you have to go out of town again?

:hippie:

I think Linda's right....take it easy for a few days and see how you're feeling. You don't want to end up w/ knee surgery or anything!
Have a good evening and "talk" to you later.
