Amazon to increase Prime Membership fee to 119

No, it goes to the school email address.
I read the info and it says you just need the edu address for verification. So itcsoubds to me like you can change the email address once you verify the account. I don't want to bother with it if I have to get into his account to track shipments.

The fact of the matter is Jeff Bezos did not become the richest man in the world by random luck. I am sure weeks worth of analytics were done to figure out that this price increase will help them. It will drive some people awat, sure, but not 20% of them. Those that stay in the program will most likely order more to justify the higher cost.
Still a better deal than a Costco or Sam's membership, which only gets you into their stores - you still have to drive there and home yourself.
Man is obviously a genius. With 100 million prime subscribers, analysts expect $4 billion increase to amazon’s bottom line. Those who leave will be negligible when the base is 100 million.

Can’t compare to Costco imho, I buy things at Costco I’d never buy online. Primarily fresh food & meat, gas and car tires.

Out of curiosity would you still do 2 same day delivery orders a week without free shipping?

Of course not. But that's not the only kind of orders I place on Amazon. We place at least 4 other orders per month. I do the same day delivery because I can, not because I need to. Prime would have to go up to like $500/year before I would stop paying for it.

So if I sign up for prime through my son's school email account, can I still use my email address for shipping confirmation?
Yes, that is how ours has been set up. But maybe they allowed it for us because when our DD started college, she was still under 18, so she couldn't legally enter into a contract.

I'm not sure what we will do. We do order a lot from Amazon, but since November, it seems like most items take 3-5 days to get to us instead of two days. I do order a lot of books from Amazon, but they are used and I have to pay shipping anyway. We watch more Hulu and Netflix than Prime videos.

The increase would be a lot more palatable if they would charge us monthly, like Hulu and Netflix, instead of one big bill right after Christmas.....

I'm not happy about the increase.

You can pay monthly, it just costs more unfortunately.

4 free months? How?

If a Prime item doesn't arrive by the time it is supposed to they will extend your Prime a month. A couple times I had the option of being refunded the item cost or an extended month, I picked the extension since I knew if the item didn't show up at all I would still get a refund.
I have no idea if that policy will stay in effect though. Always contact customer service if your item is late.

The problem is that the original $79 was just a random (prime) number and amazon found that it was losing too much money. So Amazon increased the price in the hopes that it wouldn't continue to be a huge loss, and I'm guessing $99 wasn't cutting it.

Jeff Bezos is supposedly worth $126 BILLION or so, so how much of a huge loss can they be having?

I got an extra 6 months free this past year. Always when it was their trucks/drivers.

I politely call and point out that I am paying for Prime 2 day service and that's what I expect to get. When I track the packages that were late ( in most cases never were delivered at all) it showed that it left the facility and was "out for delivery".

Depending upon membership level, the warehouse clubs offer free shipping and cash back yearly.

Oh yeah. I'm not knocking them at all. I love my Costco membership. Just pointing out that $120 for a year of free shipping, plus access to many products and features, is not too bad of a deal compared to other clubs.

I order alot on amazon because I live in an area where alot of things aren't easily available. Many products I would have to drive a few hours for if I didn't order them online. Which makes 120 a year more then worth it. Also its an increase of 20 a year. I know its 20% but we are talking about an increase of less then 2 dollars a month.

My family uses the unlimited photo storage in the "Family Vault" great way to back up and store photos and we share our Disney vacation photos as there are 3 of us taking pictures on our phones and camera.
along with the videos, music.

also nice that I can use the credit card rewards from my Chase Freedom and Discover cards.
