Amazon shipping time - Super Saver shipping?

I placed an order through Amazon on the 11th for some Disney books and chose Super Saver shipping. I just checked my account and it says the shipping estimate is 8/24 and delivery estimate 08/31-09/07. 13 days to just ship?!

One of the books is the 2008 Unofficial Guide due out 8/20. I clicked "group my items into as few shipments as possible" is that maybe why?

I've place many orders through Amazon and I know they are off sometimes but the 13 day thing is bugging me. Do you think it will ship earlier? Should I bump up to Standard delivery?

I have always had them ship earlier than they said. I never pay for shipping. You are getting a date of 8/24 because of the 8/20 release of the one book. They will (probably) ship the others sooner and then ship the 8/20 when it releases.

I ordered a bunch of things on 8/1 - said same thing, like 3 weeks til shipping - estimated delivery 8/17-24 - had everything (came in 3 separate shipments) in 7 days. Check your shipping status on their website, they update it frequently.

If you pick super saver shipping, they group the items into one shipment to save on shipping costs. Since one book won't be out until 8/20, they can't ship the entire order until it's complete.

Well, I got a shipping notice for the available items this morning! Good thing I didn't bump up to standard I guess. :)

Thanks for the replies!

I always use the Super Saver shipping and I always have my orders in about 7 days. Enjoy your new books!!

The concept of Super Saver is that they are put on a back burner. You are agreeing to a LONG wait, so they know you won't be worried about it, and they can take care of the faster shipments first.

The reality is that I have never had a shipment take as long as expected to get out the door, except for in the VERY beginning, when I was still working there.

I think it's a great deal, because since you have the expectation of a longer time, pre-shipment, if/when it's sent out earlier, it seems EVEN earlier. :)

This is what they make you think, but I have NEVER had them hold my order until the book came out whether it was a week or 6 months. They have always shipped them in seperate orders.

I almost always ship via Super Saver, and they almost always ship much sooner than the expected delivery date.

Here is my super tip for saver shippng on Amazon.com --
Let's say you are buying a lot of stuff, like $150 of stuff, but just $50 of purchases qualifies for super savings. Here's what you do -- break it up into 2-3 orders! That way, you're not waiting for everything to be ready before they ship.

Also, make a note of the "Delivers in 24 hours" or "Delivers in 1-2 weeks" notes on each item. Be sure to group all the "Delivers in 24 hours" items into one bundle. The worst thing is when what you really want usually ships in 24 hours, but because of 1 stupid item that takes 1-2 weeks, the whole order gets held up. In those cases, sometimes I'll cancel just the item that takes 1-2 weeks.

Last, do you ever have a little offer that pops up to try Amazon Prime for free? I used the free trial and tried it free for 2 months and it was great. Then, when the trial ended, I cancelled it. The trick is to ideally get Amazon Prime for free for the holiday shopping season... =)
