Up from $35 in the US. Or you need to have $25 in books.

Got on Amazon with a new computer today and saw this. Prime is worth the cost.

I read an article saying that Amazon's shipping costs went up at Christmas time because of people with prime buying one item at a time instead of making larger orders. I ordered some stuff on Saturday and they offered me $1 off a movie purchase if I could wait a week for my order instead of having it in 2 days so I assume this is their way of lowering shipping costs. I am in no rush so I took the credit.

Anyway I bought prime in the fall when they had it on sale for $67. I love it and will renew next year. It is so nice not to have to spend the $35 and now $45 for free shipping. My items always come in 2 days. I once placed an order on a Friday and had it on Sunday. I have always watched some of the free prime shows so that is another benefit.

They have been offering various promos to keep the saver shipping .. Sometimes it's for free prime pantry shipping, sometimes credit to music or movies etc.. We assess each time what makes sense vs not. I think 50$ is to high for free shipping.

As for Christmas - whether I purchased my items in groups or one at a time - they still often arrived alone - I assume that this is based on how they have their warehouses structured and not just on their shipping approach.

I hardly ever use their free shipping anymore. More times than not I can buy the same things from the 3rd party vendors who charge only a few cents more with shipping included.

I have prime through work but my honey has it at home so I could go on his as well but like cel_disney said, I always look at the options. I don't think that is too much to charge for free shipping, I can't think of anyone else I order from except TotalFitnessDVDs that has less than $50 for free shipping, they have $20.

I use this all the time because I have prime through my sister; but it seems like it isn't much of a savings when you pay for prime to begin with; unless you order A LOT, you've paid way more than $1 a shipment to get sped up shipping; so to get only $1 to slow down shipping seems strange.

But last year I got $40 in incentives, which was nice. I do order everything 1 at a time, even on the same day, for that benefit; but amazon always combines the orders so they ship together, I just get more of a credit. Seems like they should just offer the benefit per item :)

Well that will definitely hamper how often I shop from Amazon. Anymore I don't find their prices to be that competitive anyways and $50 is way too much for free shipping from them.
I did a prime trial over Christmas and enjoyed it, but not sure it's worth the cost for the yearly amount I shop from Amazon.

o_O Thanks for the update, I did not realize this. I had prime for years and do love it. But not excited to pay the $99 so I haven't renewed it so far this time. I'm sure I will at some point, but so far I've been putting things in the cart, then purchasing when it's over $35. Guess i'll be waiting a little longer until it's $49. I'm waiting for a prime sale again, the last one was a few days before mine expired and it wouldn't let me renew. >:(

I never thought about buying things one at a time to get the $1 credit for each item!

Prime seems like a good option if you buy a lot from Amazon. I don't. I was really unhappy with Amazon at Christmas. I ordered something one night and woke up the next morning to find it on sale somewhere else, significantly cheaper. Amazon wouldn't price match or let me cancel the order because it was processing. It took another few days for the order to actually ship. I had to pay return shipping.

Sounds like they are trying to drive more people towards Prime. We do have it and use it a lot.
I am determined to use all the features of Prime and recently discovered the Music section. This has revitalized my workouts. Normally I would just listen to whatever music or book I have on my iPhone, but with Prime music I have access to thousands of songs. I load them into my library and can create playlists; when I get to the gym, I pull up Amazon Music on my phone and listen to all those songs without buying them.

We have had prime for years. I like it for the music, occasionally the movies, and because we live in a small town with alot of stores going out of business we use Amazon alot. If I can't get the item at Target I'm probably buying it on Amazon (and occasionally when I can).

They have a good deal for pre-ordered video games so my husband uses them for that.

Shipping is the one area we get annoyed with. Being not in a big city shipping has actually slowed for us. Its not always 2 day shipping here and takes longer. He has complained to amazon about this a few times. I know 2 day shipping is possible.

Sometimes we have made multiple purchases of 1 or 2 items in a row, most of the time we buy stuff when we think of it and then think of something else. Sometimes we buy things together and Amazon splits them as well... not sure why but we bought two things together yesterday and it shows up in orders as separate items.

Most likely the things are shipping from different warehouses, so they come to you separately. We have several things on subscription from Amazon and even though many of them ship on the same day they often come in separate packages. Just depends on which warehouse has stock of the items when you order them.

We've had Prime for a few years and enjoy it, since we do buy a fair amount from Amazon. I'm also trying to use the other benefits more this year. I downloaded the Music app onto my phone and like that so far; next on my list is to set up their Cloud for the unlimited photo storage.

I will likely renew my Prime in May. I order a few times/month. Plus I use the streaming and the music. I use the Music at the gym a lot, they have some workout music sets. Unlimited cloud photo storage is a big benefit for me. I have my phone set up to save everything to the cloud. My sister and another friend keep complaining about the memory being full on their phones from all the pictures (they have iPhones so not sure how iCloud storage works);but photo storage is not a problem for me.

I have wondered why at times it takes so long for an in stock items order to be shipped. The actual shipping time is not long, but the order processing time can be really long.

This. I find Walmart or Target to be comparable in prices. And with my Target red card I get 5 percent off and free shipping. Walmart has free ship to store.

It is very seldom that I find Amazon to be competitive anymore. It's come a long way since I got a pair of Nike running shoes and three books for $3.99 -- shipping included.

Their customer service is fantastic, but so are lots of other places. For the most part, I skip Amazon...

I'm thinking where people live must affect how the prices compare, because 90% of the time when I compare prices, Amazon wins. There were a few items at Christmas (the WiiU being one thing) that I found cheaper. But that occurred more as we got closer to Christmas.

I have the Amazon scanner on my phone and I love it. Whenever I'm looking at buying a gift or a household item, I'll scan it into Amazon (or do a search) to make sure I'm getting the best deal.

Plus, DH gets Amazon rewards through work, so we have of "free" money to use. Now if only I could buy Disney GCs with those Amazon dollars...
