Amazon raised the price of minimum free shipping to $49 today.

I always compare, but I end up using Amazon a lot. Either for something cheaper than I can get in store, or something that I can't find in a store (and I live in LA, so that is saying something). I also don't have time to go checking several different stores at night or on weekends, so it really helps in that respect. I got Prime when it was on sale for $67 a while ago. Don't think I could go back to not having it. I have been ordered the slower shipping every time, but the $1 credit expires so quickly that the one time I accepted it I didn't use it before it expired.

$49 for free shipping is ridiculous. That's what most websites are, and I always thought Amazon was supposed to be "better," but I get it.

Another reason to sign up for prime. Great for those with babies. We have our diapers and genie refills automatically delivered. We get a ton of items for around the house on there like paper towels, TP, cleaning supplies and even some groceries. There is a website called slickdeals which will post deals on Amazon.

You get free shipping with subscribe and save anyway. You don't need prime for that.

I do think they'll lose business over this because it is the shipping minimum for most other places too. So there really isn't a need to shop at amazon for small orders anymore.

Of course, if they were losing money on small orders, then they are probably happy to lose that business.

Or maybe they are trying to go to the Costco membership model. Costco makes a lot of money on memberships, less so on stuff they sell.

I just do a few things for subscribe and save. I do many items around the home and prime always helps especially when I can get it in 2 days (sometimes even less). We usually figure out what we need on Sunday, order it sunday night and it's there Tuesday in the afternoon.

This. I find Walmart or Target to be comparable in prices. And with my Target red card I get 5 percent off and free shipping. Walmart has free ship to store.

Took me 50 minutes to do an in store pickup at Walmart, yesterday :(

Oh, and we don't offer free shipping for anything under $2,000 where I work :)

One more reason that I probably won't be using Amazon much in the future. I canceled my Prime membership last month due to really poor customer service and now I'll just get most of my stuff at Target (hate Walmart) and get a red card (the debit version) to save 5%.

Do you get any other perks with Amazon Prime, other than Free Shipping?

Streaming of movies, TV shows. Prime Music is free, borrow books for Kindle and free unlimited Photo storage. I am starting to see more "exclusive pricing" options for Prime members only. Their original TV programming is getting better and lots of stuff for kids.

Walmart rarely offers site to store shipping anymore. You can do in store pick up if it's in stock or a regular item.

Thankfully our local Wal-Mart is super fast with in store pick up.

mine is SO slow. even after I used the "check in when you arrive" feature on the app. still had to wait. I go pu on the weekends which might be part of the issue.

They have a "tap screen to ask for help" thing at the desk. After so many minutes, it just shuts off. I had to hit it 3 times & still NOBODY came to help. I had to flag someone from another department down. My package was over 300 lbs, so I brought the company truck. The guy didn't want me in their dock - thought loading it from the ground made more sense. Ugh. So, now I'm there 1/2 hour & am told to meet them out back. I get back there, nothing. 15 minutes later, my guy still nowhere to be found, 2 girls tell me to go ahead & use the dock and they helped me load up.

I went on my lunch break on Monday - which brings me to a whole new rant. I noticed either a shift change or major lunch breaks going on straight up at noon. Why on Earth would any retail establishment be having lunch or shift changes during what is lunch hour for a big chunk of their customers???

We actually opted not to renew because the streaming options were getting smaller and smaller. The stuff we used to watch was no longer Prime so off to Netflix we went.

We're finding the streaming options actually getting better and better. There are many shows and movies we get on Prime that we don't get on Netflix. We use both, but we've been tempted to drop Netflix and go with Prime exclusively for streaming.

You do have to watch the prices at Amazon, especially at Christmas. For me, though, Prime is worth every penny. I use Subscribe and Save so I never run out of cat food. The price is just a bit lower than Pet Smart. We have 2 fire sticks so we use Prime Video a lot and I never pay for shipping on anything.

Amazon does not price match other retailers but 3 times last Holiday season they lowered their price on an item I had ordered. Did chat and got credit for the lower price.

so many items that I can get on Amazon that Walmart does not do ship to store on and Target does not sell on line (I have the Red Card).

I always thought that paying for Prime was silly, until I got it. :rotfl2: We currently pay only half price for Prime because my DD is a college student. I'm about 99% certain that we would continue to pay for Prime even at full price. It's just so easy to remember that I need a furnace filter at midnight while I'm laying in bed and order it on my phone. And ordering simple things keeps me out of Target, where a trip to get one quick essential turns into a cart full of extra items, and my husband thinks that's a mighty good thing.

We buy through amazon through out the year but really I have it for my christmas shopping. I hate christmas shopping in store, ok I hate shopping in stores anyhow. But yeah the streaming is a huge bonus since we don't have cable. Also I like that I can send stuff to my son at college and if he really needs something and can't afford it he can order it on amazon and have it shipped to his apartment.
