Amazon Prime

I just got Prime this fall and I love it! I've ordered stuff last minute and as long as it ships from Amazon (not a 3rd party) the two day shipping works.

I don't have Prime, but I order from Amazon all the time. I'd say 99% of my orders have shipped free with super saver shipping. Anything I did pay shipping on didn't even come close to $80 in a year (probably more like $10). Also, everything has been delivered pretty quickly. I wouldn't even use the other services, so it would be a huge waste of money for me.

I could see where it might be worth it if you shared the cost with 4 other accounts though...

It's also great for gift giving since you can order something and have it sent directly to the recipient. They'll even gift wrap it for a few bucks.

The way I look at it is it costs me $40 a year (student discount) which is cheaper than a wholesale club (though we belong to one of those as well) and I use it a lot more. Once my student discount runs out, I'll have to decide if it is worth $80 a year.

I have it too, I really like it. I got in on the "Student Discount" price so it makes it really good :)

The free shipping was awesome especially for the Christmas season. Sometimes you can find streaming stuff to watch on there too.

Sorry, I'm not terribly tech-savvy: but if I, and my two daughters, all have Kindle Fire's..I can just pay for Prime once, and we all are covered?

Yes, you can share it on multiple devices, maybe up to 10 registered devices for one account, not real sure on how many total, but my DH and I share our account and both can access the streaming and our cloud.

sorry, another Prime question. Are the movies available for the paid subscription the same as the ones for the free trial? I see alot of kids movies but recent releases for adults are not available for free? Trying to decide if its worth $80 or should I just stay with Netflix (2 dvds/month for $4.99).
Thanks

Trying to decide if this is for us...Just bought a Kindle Fire HD for 9yo DS. I really wouldn't use it too much for shipping (I think...) but would it be worth it for streaming movies and shows along with games for son? I am not really tech savvy, so I am relying on my Dis Friends.

I don't understand why everyone calls it free shipping when you're actually paying $80 for that "free" shipping.

How much is 2nd day shipping normally? I get my $80 back in just a few orders, everything after that is free.

LOL I guess I'm just too cheap to pay for 2 day shipping. I will do everything I can to avoid shipping charges, but when I have to, I choose the cheapest way possible. It doesn't bother me to wait 3 to 5 more days.

I was able to get Prime as a student (taking graduate classes through a university) for half off. This is my second year of getting it 50% off, the year before that I got it free somehow. It is well worth it at $40. One thing that makes it worth it that I don't have to order $25 worth of stuff to get free shipping. Sometimes they have great deals on little things, less that $10, in the past I would either pay for shipping or find $15 of other stuff that I "needed" (which I didn't really need). So, now I can order what ever I want.

I also like the free book a month, but I don't always get that. Prime movies aren't that great, I usually end up paying for movies, so I am not sure I would get it just for that. I am actually thinking about going back to Netflix for movies/TV.

Really? I didn't know this..how do you set it up for them?

Go into your Prime account and you will see something about inviting family to use your prime membership.

I love Prime...although I have never payed for it. I got it free a couple of times, but several of my family members have it....so they added me on.

It's like Fast Pass. You'll wonder how you lived without it!

We love it. It has been one year since we signed up for Prime and in the first month we had it, we ordered a flat screen TV with 2 day shipping. That shipping would normally have cost a hundred dollars to ship a TV let alone 2 day shipping so our year was covered in one transaction.

We have ordered hundreds of items from Amazon in the last year and definitely got our money's worth just out of the shipping.

We also have several Kindle Fires we use the streaming TV and movies with and I just recently (a few months ago) got a ROKU box and now watch my Prime streaming through the ROKU on my TV. Love it. I just finished watching all 5 seasons of Sons of Anarchy and only had to pay for the 5th season. The other 4 seasons (at 1.99 an episode) we free for me.

I use the monthly lending library with the books almost without fail and that saves me well over $80 a year not having to pay for books.

Where else can you get OVERNIGHT shipping for $3.99? If you went down to Fed Ex and tried to ship something overnight it would cost you $40 or $50 for one small box.

You can add up to 4 family or friends to your account and they get the shipping benefits but not the streaming benefits. But my husband and I bypassed that by just having him log into Amazon under my account to watch Prime videos when he is out of town. He is a member on my prime but since I am the primary member he technically doesn't get streaming.

I think it is one of the biggest bargains we spend money on and will gladly pay it even if it was $100 a year.

Thanks..I had it free for awhile through Amazon Mom and missed it when it was gone. I hate paying shipping also, so did what many do..find something I 'needed' to bump it up to $25..so much easier to just see a deal and buy and not worry about shipping. I am pretty cheap and balked at paying for this..but as much as I use Amazon I find it worth it. Got the ROKU on a lightning deal..it hooked up easily..did say signal strength is low..I have that problem here ..stupid Century Link.. but it seemed to work fine, only doing a weird reloading thing once. We watched Bob the Builder for old time sake and then..for a real holiday treat, the original Red Dawn :scared1:.

I love my Amazon Prime! The items I order often arrive the next day. In fact, when I order, my husband teases me that I should immediately run out and check the front porch to see if it's already arrived!
I have my friends' addresses saved in my shipping information and regularly order their birthday gifts, as well as their childrens' gifts from Amazon. Free fast shipping and I don't have to go to the post office. Cheap and easy, that's me! :rotfl2:

They're not here yet but I bet they're building a warehouse nearby since they signed an agreement to start charging sales tax in November. Maybe we'll start seeing free next day shipping soon and $3.99 same day shipping.
