Amazon - new fees to ship to Canada?

So far I believe ever item I have looked for today that says it ships to Canada has a $7.10 shipping & import fees deposit.

When did this start happening? Any idea what it means by "deposit"? Is it a fee I might get back?

Damn, that sucks... I loved ordering from Amazon and have at least a dozen items I wanted to order before our cruise. But $7.10 on each item? I don't know...

Are you looking at Amazon . com and not . ca? I've looked at the .ca site and don't see any extra fees being added on (but i rarely order anything that isn't fulfilled by Amazon proper) We do our best to only buy from Canadian sources so we avoid any extra fees.

No, I do mean Amazon.COM.

I never had these shipping & import fees on items in the past. On the rare occasions that something had duty/import fees on it, there would be a sticker on the package and the CAnada Post agent would collect those fees from me.

I've only bought from Amazon.com a few times and there has always been shipping charges and possibly duty. I expect it has to do with where your item comes from... or, has NAFTA been voided yet? If so, then there will be duty on things that were covered by the NAFTA agreement before.

I've ordered from amazon.com before and they always give an estimate for taxes and fees. I actually received a refund once when I guess the actual fees were less than the estimate. I don't think this is something new.

I agree with others - I almost always order from the Canadian site but I have ordered a few times from the US site and it is different - sometimes the fees ended up being barely anything but they were always disclosed.

That is so weird. You know, I checked my account history and I guess I've browsed more than I have actually purchased! I must not have noticed these fees in the past, or maybe that is why I haven't made as many purchases as I thought I had.
