Amazon Echo

Finally got my invitation to order. I was hoping to hear some input about it from anyone that got theirs already before deciding on whether to buy it.

We like it. It lets me verbally add items to my wife's grocery list on her cell while she's at work which comes in handy if she's going to the store before coming home. And yes, I could text her, but that would require me to have to be on a device to do so. I like the convenience of just saying "Alexa, add blank blank to Jen's grocery list." :rotfl:

You can also verbally send movies (Prime Instant Video) to whatever devices (Kindles, cell phones) you have connected to Alexa (Echo). You can also tell Alexa to play certain song lists or particular songs, also the news or radio stations. You can ask questions about subjects/personalities that one could look up on the net. And she'll also tell you jokes, some of them are pretty funny.

I think this device is currently being developed based on users input so it'll be interesting to see what apps Amazon adds to Alexa.

And the sound is pretty good for anyone who just wants to use it as a blue tooth speaker.

I got my invite and ordered mine this morning. It has a 180 day return policy so I figured, why not? It will be here on Friday. :)

I just got my invite this morning, and after reading UncleRemus' review, I'm tempted. Has anyone else gotten the Echo? What do you think?

still waiting for my invite. Sounds like fun and i figure i have spent more on stupider things (that phrase gets me in lots of trouble BTW):rotfl2:

We've had ours for quite awhile and absolutely love it! So easy to use, so responsive and such incredible music choices! I can't imagine life without it.

We "received" an Echo as a gift, but it still hasn't shipped. :crazy2:

I asked her who killed Laura Palmer and she knew the answer. I was shocked. I'm always asking it how tall famous people are. She has answered every time.

We use her for so many things. Trivia, measurement conversions, music playlists, timers, alarms, traffic updates, weather and sports scores. She's almost like a member of the family now lol :)

OMG..DH will put me over the edge with Alexa. Siri's bad enough.

I got my invite and placed my order back in December. My shipping date? June 2015. Crazy.

As with any Amazon device, the ship date is just a date. I had a friend who ordered his firestick with his Prime account before they were out and he had a guaranteed by Christmas delivery date. When did he actually get it? 2 days after they were released.

So just keep checking your account details, it could ship any time.

Our ship date is this month. We'll see...

My ship date was June but a few months ago was moved up to early May. I've been hoping to get another notice soon that it was moved up again.

I placed my order in November, I think? I was waiting SO impatiently for an invite :)

That doesn't sound right at all. Everyone I know who ordered in December has received theirs. You might want to call Amazon and double check that? You shouldn't have to wait 6 months. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Kathy!

I don't understand how this relates to Amazon's business model. It seems more of a thing Apple, Google, or Microsoft would create.

Amazon is constantly changing. Personally, I think the roll out of the Echo via invitation only was brilliant.

I'm surprised to see the Echo getting such high praise here. I find the dumb thing to be pretty useless. It doesn't understand what I'm saying a lot of the time and even when it does, half the time it doesn't know the answer anyway. One time I got frustrated and said, "Alexa, why don't you vacuum or do something productive?" That sassy broad replied, "I added vacuum and do something productive to your To Do List." :headache:

To each their own. We love ours and couldn't be happier. Why not try selling yours? Craigslist?
