For those who watch the Amazing Race, you know what I'm talking about. For those that don't, let me explain. There have been two different challenges where one team member had to consume a local "delicacy". In Russia, it was over 2lbs of caviar. In Nairobi (I think) it was a scrambled ostrich egg, which is the equivalent of 2 dozen chicken eggs. Now remember only ONE person was able to complete this task and they are competing for $1 million.

I voted for the ostrich egg. At least I could pretend it was "real" eggs.

I've eaten both and I have to say I'll eat the caviar before I eat another bite of ostrich egg. They're nasty! Weird, considering ostrich meat is pretty good.

Oogie, what does ostrich egg taste like?

I would have made my partener do both:p

DH and I already decided if we were on AR - he'd be doing all of the food road blocks. I really don't think I'd keep down either of the choices - ICK!

Hey Oogie - I'll do the race with you:) You seem to be wiling to eat anything:p

Gimme the egg, any day of the week. The egg didn't look like it weighed two pounds (cooked).

I just think I wouldn't want to eat two pounds of anything.

Having had both, I will also vote for the ostrich egg. Caviar is, indeed, an "acquired" taste, and even then it tastes like bad fish innards. An ostrich egg may taste a little gamier, it's also a lot healthier. The caviar they ate on AR they ALL complained about how bad it smelled and tasted. Remember on a good day with the finest caviar at the proper temperature and with crackers, still tastes gross. Can you imagine how much worse the gross caviar tasted.

ICKY-POOH!

If I absolutely had to choose I would pick the ostrich egg.

Had a "gourmet" meal when in Germany. We were surprised when they brought us an appetizer. It was samon mousse on cracker and topped with cavier! It was one of the grossest things I have ever tasted! The meal was bad, too. All salavation was good wine and dessert! Wish we wouldn't have splurged on that dinner; and gone to McDonalds instead! There was done the street believe it or not.

For sure the Ostrich Egg...the caviar would have been difficult, it reminded me of a Fear Factor stunt. Although, did you notice that the caviar was eaten in an air conditioned room and the egg was outdoors, very hot, flies swarming around. Did you notice Mirna fanning Charla? And I think Colin was sweating up a storm. That makes a difference while trying to eat something nasty.

Yuk either way:confused:

Considering I believe I have an allergy to iodine, I think the fish eggs would be *dangerous* for me, not just difficult. I'd have to go with the egg.

If I weren't allergic to it....

Um...

I'd have to go with the egg. LOL!!

I can't stand the thought of either one. I felt so sorry for those who were choking on that stuff. But forced to, I'd pick the egg I guess if only because the texture would be better. Caviar is nasty stuff.

I'd go for the scrambled ostrich egg. I've tried caviar & it's far too salty for my taste!

Just thinking of how big an ostrich egg is, I think it would be quite a substantial snack!
