Amazing Race, Family Edition. *Official DiscussionThread*

First of all, I don't think the format of the show is fair. How can you have one team with little kids and another team with young 20-somethings or all men? It's no surprise that one of the little kid teams was gone on the first night. I really liked the Black Family :(.

The Godlewski's
(The Sisters, aka The Pink Ladies)

I really liked this team. The worked together well, they were funny and I was shocked that they won the leg. Awesome!

The Gaghans
(Running Family with Kids, aka The Rugrat Team)

This is my favorite team. I love the kids and I think that they are a family of runners will help them again and again. I hope there are not too many challenges that will be too tough for the kids. I didn't think the mom's commant about travel was snarky at all. I bet she can drive a stick-shift on the "wrong" side of the road.

The Weavers
(Widowed Mom and Family, aka The Praying Mantises)

I am on the fence with this team. The seem OK, but their praying bugs me. I liked how they literally picked themselves up from the buggy accident and did the other challenge.

The Rogers
(Father as Head of Household by God Family, aka The Peacocks)

I really don't like this family because of the father's view of his place in the universe. Sure, he's allowed to feel that way and I'm allowed to dislike him. Enough said.

The Schroeders
(Arrogant Dad Family, aka The Goth Family)

I am on the fence with this family too. I think I like the kids, but I think the father's mouth is going to get him in trouble. The daughter is fair skinned with really dark hair, hense the nickname.

The Paolos
(Italian Bronx Family, aka The Screamers)

Rude, obnoxious, loud. I think I like them :). I was totally cracking up when the son said "Adventure of a lifetime and we can't get out of New York city!". They made an amazing recovery.

The Bransens
(Dad with Daughters, no aka yet)

I like this team. I really liked how the dad talked about how proud he was of his daughters. Nice team.

Aiellos
(Dad with SILs, no aka yet)

I just don't like the make-up of this family. The 3 strong guys really make it seem unfair. They seem like an OK team, though. I don't like or dislike them.

Linz
(Siblings, no aka yet)

Did I hear the sister say that she had 7 brothers?!? Oh my. I don't like or dislike this team either. Again, 3 strong guys will be an advantage. Plus, the sister seems to give 150% just to show her brothers that she's as good as them. I wonder if one of the people with AR finally clued them in that they could change who rode and who pushed/pulled.

I'm waiting for next week's episode to get a better feel for who I'm going to root for. Having 4 on a team makes it a little harder to keep track and get to know the people! :)

I'm an Italian from the Bronx and there would be no way I would talk to my mother like that. If I did, I wouldn't be typing this statement right now :teeth: Yes, I admit it, we Italians can be loud, but disrespectful to our parents is not something I've seen, at least in my family.

Lisa loves Pooh,

I'm so sorry that you are taking my comments personally. As you said you are bigger than the Geghan Mom and I think my comments about her athletic ability have you upset. I am the first defender of anyone who is a larger size, I cannot stand people putting others down. My comments were not that she has too much fat on her, only that if she were to contiinuously train and run in marathons she would be much more lithe and I stand by my comments. As for your trainer having a stomache that is not healthy, a well known fact that if you have weight around your middle you are in a much higher percentage for a heart attack.

Actually I am not that big and neither is she..THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT...we are about the same size--though I'm sure my thighs and butt are bigger than hers.

Your attitude is very elitest as it is only a small percentage of marathoners who are elite and would meet the qualifications you describe.

ETA: Also you essentially called this woman a liar:
Also I guess I am wary of her because her bio saids she is a marathon runner, I am a personal trainer and she does not seem to be a runner. It will be interesting to see how she does in the challenges.

My coach is perfectly fit--I just said he had a tad bit of a gut. I didn't go poking around to see if it was merely muscle. I don't think he would appreciate that. He's a tall man too--and with a loose shirt..I just can't tell.

One needn't have a low BMI to have a perfectly healthy heart and the ability to train in these events.

The way you described her--I was expected to find a fat woman on the web-site. This isn't a woman who's necessarily racing to win. I don't know what your definition of racing is...but world class athlete isn't the only category of athlete out there.

You can stand by your comments. It really places you with the elite and if that is all who is worthy to compete in those events, then so be it. It is sad, inappropriate, judgemental and not the least bit professional. In the running world--it is called an elitist attitude.

And I will stand by my comments. Rant over!

ETA: picture of the "non-lithe" runner....

Those are muscles I see in those arms...and man I hope I look this good when I'm 42 years YOUNG!!!

Saw last nites episode and I LUV THE AR....that being said are they only going to travel in the US? part of the reason i like the show is the traveling to other countries ....as another poster said it was like " ARE WE THERE YET "
" ARE WE THERE YET " so far only moderately interesting but i will still watch...the 2 hours last nite only one other comment ...editing would have been nice

One last note--b/c the judging was just too much...

This woman has completed at least 2 marathons and 2 half marathons.

Here times for the full were 4:38 (NYC) and 4:31 (CT)...safe bet she's running them!

ETA: found another--May 30, 2004 and she finished in 4:29....that makes 3 marathons in the last 16 months. Gotta love google! It ain't Boston qualifying---but I say that she's definitely a marathoner...a running one at that.

Back to our regularly scheduled AR thread.

We're all the teams doing this or just the ones with the little kids?

I would hope the older ones would...know better.

Did I miss something? What did they do?

I don't believe they did. I always thought that you had to have the clue on you at all times. Does anyone know what the rule is on that? If it is a rule, maybe they'll be penalized and the Black Family will not be eliminated. One can only hope ;)

My son thought this too and was surprised when they didn't have to show the clue. I guess we'll see what happens.

"Are we there yet?"

Someone was mentioning that happened...and was wondering if it was just the little kids...or were the big kids whining, too. :rotfl2:

OK, now that I have read all 19 pages, I have a few comments...

I didn't catch Drew and Kevin at all but my daughter did and then googled them during a commercial to prove she was right :)

Like many of you, I can't keep the names of the teams straight but hopefully I'll figure it in a few weeks. It takes me a few episodes of each AR to get the names straight. At least this time they are not all models and actors.

Did anyone notice how the team with the widow and 3 kids was driving? The daughter drove with her left leg on the seat rather than the floor by the pedals. Maybe it is because we are teaching our daughter to drive, but we noticed that.

Liked the family with the two kids ( I think Carissa is the name of the daughter.)

I can do without the Italian family. I think the yelling and screaming is just the way they talk to each other but it is so annoying.

I was very surprised the team with three brothers and a sister almost was eliminated. At the start of the show, I thought they would be the strongest team.

Just a reminder that tonight is the two hour final on the game show network for Season 6.

You don't have to have the clue with you. If you can remember what's in it, you can throw it away if you want. That's not recommended of course. In season 2, near the very end, a team lost their clue and didn't know what was in it. It was almost a disaster for them, but they muddled through by following another team.

Anyway - didn't the Paolo family say "we have to go back" when they realized they'd lost it? They didn't show them going back, but they must have. They were too clueless (literally and figuratively) to find the mat without it.

And... No offense, but there's some things that would be better discussed via PM or in a new thread instead of ruining this one. It's happened before on AR threads. The ruining, that is.

I do that sometimes--especially on long trips. :rolleyes1

Right foot does all the work. :confused3

Message taken and I'm dropping it.

Discredit a team...proving their credibilty is pertinent to the thread.

I apologize for my rants though.

I'm pretty sure the "Black Family" is out. If there would of been a penality, Phil would have told them when they reached the pit stop.

I love this show, I love the new format with families, they should have brought back someone from a previous show with their family. The kids really make the show refreshed. Did you see when the little boy fell in the creek and he yelled, "I need help here" and his dad came over and lifted him out of the creek by his pants.

Also when the 2 kids were singing in the buggy when their parents were pushing and pulling it. Tell me who hasn't traveled with their kids on road trips-and listened to their kids sing endless annoying songs. I'm sorry, but these kids are bring back a lot of memories when my kids were little. I think this is going to be a great season.

Colorado Buffalo Mom --

I'm 38 mom of 4 kids and I drive with my left leg up at all times. Done that all my entire driving life.

I always thought that I naturally done that cause I'm a contortionist. :confused3

I noticed that too. My college roommate drove like that also. I personally don't think it's all that comfortable and I'm sure it's more than a little unsafe.
