Amazed at Misinformation!

Okay, I will readily admit I don't know every single thing there is to know about everything Disney---but I'm working on it! ;)

I'll even sometimes post with the caveat, that I think this is how it is. This was our experience. I've heard that... I think I read somewhere... Please correct me if I'm wrong, but...

But I'm AMAZED at how much I read, especially on Facebook groups, from people who are stating things as absolute fact that are blatantly wrong! I feel sorry for people who haven't done their research and are using these sites and groups to make plans on.

Over the past several weeks, some of the things I've heard....

Chef Mickey's is a 2-credit meal.
None of the Value Resorts have refrigerators in them.
There are buses that run from DTD to each of the parks.
An FP guarantees you'll never wait more than 15 minutes.
The fourth FP program has already started and you can get more than 3 now.
Resort guests can use any of the pools.
You can make ADRs for quick service meals too.

And this isn't even the bits and pieces you overhear in the parks, on the buses, etc. This is from people giving advice on boards where people are looking for information to plan their trips!

What things have you read or heard?

I agree about the Facebook pages!!! I just blocked 3 of them because I couldn't read one more wrong thing!!! Drives me nuts!! And the stuff they ask!! Apparently, they've never heard of Google!! Why ask about the price of a 3 day ticket? Do you really think people just have this info in their heads?! No, they look it up on the website, or (gulp) they Google it!!!

LOL.. it makes you want to reposnd with the "Let me Google that for you site":thumbsup2

And that's how rumors start....

Have you actually done it yourself? Have you actually talked to anyone who has done it? Have you read one single thread in the thousands of DIS threads where anyone has been able to do it? If it was live, don't you think the boards here would be exploding with the news? There's TONS of threads with speculation about this and wondering how it will work, etc. As soon as it's live, SOMEONE is going to come back here and report it. Until then, I'll believe it when I see it.

Just because one person--no matter what he was wearing--told you, doesn't make it a fact.

:thumbsup2

I recall a poster here about a year ago swearing that Splash Mountain closed at night not because she saw it, but because a CM told her it did. Uh, that's a big "no".

This is actually apparently true, and if you wait more than 15 mins (I actually think its 10, if The HUB was around he has noted this for sure) and you ask a CM, they are supposed to give you an anytime FP as compensation.

If that is true, I'm owed quite a few anytime FPs! Every trip we have ever taken there is usually at least one FP that has resulted in a 20 minute wait, usually TSM or Pooh. This past trip with FP+ we definitely had multiple FP+ take 10 to 15 minutes over our week long trip. I'm pretty sure if that was true at some point, it isn't now, especially with FP+. ;) :)

I did see someone post here fairly recently in response to a question that you can't meet Cinderella at Akershus as she is not one of the Princesses there. I'm guessing that person has not been to Akershus in the last 5 years. I do remember the days when Cinderella was a rarity at Akershus, but she has been a standard that is almost always there for the last few years. I think a lot of the misinformation comes from people that have not been there in a few (or more than a few) years, and give people old information which is no longer correct and/or who have some confused memories.

Sometimes I get so mad that I just ride the Skyway and Mr. Toad, over and over, at MK.

Uh, bad information....Mr Toad is closed for rerfurb for a few years, and you can only ride Skyway if you're staying at a deluxe resort and show your room key.

True. But I was talking to a friend (whose brother used to date a girl whose cousin is a Cast Member or VP at WDW... I forget which), who said that they are keeping it hush hush, but if you go to the Town Hall and complain about Mr. Toad, they will take you to the secret entrance of 20,000 Leagues instead! She said it was great! When I told her I didn't notice the ride last time I was there, she explained that's because it's UNDER THE SEA, so you can't see it unless you know where the secret entrance is... can't wait till our next trip. Between this and the Skyway, it should be a blast!

Actually, I saw it posted on DIS recently that:
"At the Walt Disney World resort, the FastPass guarantee is ten minutes or less. Should you experience a wait longer than ten minutes, you should alert a Cast Member at that attraction and request for them to issue you a No Strings Attached voucher, valid for a FastPass at any attraction in that park, for that day."

Sadly, I can't tell you the source for this, as I just copied and pasted into my WDW notes, but it was from a Cast Member who posts here and is reputable.

Yes, I "hear" myself... but to me it sounds worth trying!

The biggest one that gets me is people who tell you they either A. went to Disney or B. are going to Disney, but then proceed to tell you all about Universal or any other attraction really that is located in the Orlando area.

I'm like, "So you went to Universal?, and they are like, "No we went to Disney; The hulk is the best roller coaster ever." Great thanks, I'll keep that in mind for after I ride the skyride and 20,000 leagues.

It really irritates me when they tell me I just have to do X which is an attraction not at Disney. I politely try to explain I can't do X as I'm going to Disney not the park they are talking about, but they always end up trying to assure me it is in Disney because they did it when they went. Ahhh! Really is it that difficult to figure out which park you are in?

I'm also going to start printing up sheets for people with detailed directions to HP world since so many can't manage to find it. It's really not that hard. Just board Peter Pan and instead of the 2nd star to the right take the 3rd, or if you are in a park with a train, you can get on the secret compartment between 9 and 10 and that one will take you all the way to the Hogwarts train station.

The other misconceptions I see kind of come from the above. People who mix up the EP system and the FP system. I don't know how many times I've heard that Universal has free FP like Disney or that you can buy FP from Disney or that both offer FOL passes. There are so many incorrect rumors out there.

Just before our last trip, one of my friends was complaining she didn't want to buy the EP because she always just uses the free FP. I was like well if you want to go to Disney have at it, but the rest of us on this trip are going to Universal where there is no FP. She just couldn't grasp that Universal didn't have FP like Disney does. She just kept swearing that she had used it at Universal in the past.

Sadly, Cheshire Figment has been totally absent of new posts since early January of this year.
(And his ticket sticky post on this board has not been updated in months.)

Many of us are worried about his whereabouts and well-being.

Please, Mike, come back!!
We miss you!!

I had noticed that I hadn't seen posts from him recently. Please let everyone know of any updates about him.

Uh, bad information....Mr Toad is closed for refurb for a few years, and you can only ride Skyway if you're staying at a deluxe resort and show your room key.

A Disney Bus Driver told me you take a double-bus on the MK third loop to the Disney Airport Runway, and that's where they moved the Skyway. It takes you directly to Universal.

As I said, I did not get to use it because by the time we had used our FPs for the day, everything was gone. Considering this guy is one of the youth group coordinators, and his job depends on giving correct information out, yes, I believe him. If you don't want to believe a first hand report, knock yourself out. I'm simply saying that yes, the 4th FP is available; unfortunately it's not completely viable yet, unless you use your FP early in the morning. The way our touring plan worked out, we didn't. But you know what? When I go back down in 2 weeks, I'll do it, and take pictures, just so you have "proof".

I rarely post on here; however, I work Fast Pass Plus at Disney World. I can assure you that this IS NOT AVAILABLE NOW nor has it been since the roll out in January.

Please be careful about spreading false rumors unless you have personal experience with something. Thank you.

I had a good friend who says that her son got a powerful electric shock by touching the roof of the launch tunnel on space mountain.

This actually did happen to me when we were on our high school band trip! It made my hand numb for a while. Now I know better. Haha

:rotfl2:

Last summer when telling some moms I knew that we would be going to Disney in the fall, I was informed by a well meaning band man who has chaperoned on many trips, that Philharmagic had been torn down and replaced with a new Snow White ride. :headache:

There was a woman on a FB group SWEARING that bell services (NOT Magical Express, plain bell services) would be happy to put your stuff in your room as soon as the room is available, without you being there. Umm...no. She KNEW for a FACT they would, because she had done it. ::yes::

FYI: bell service does do this if you check in and your room is not ready. We've gone to dinner and walked right in to our room with all items there and our cold food in the fridge. We did not use Magical Express.

I overheard a family telling another family who was on their first to WDW that they should make sure to ride the monorail because it stops in the lobby of the Contemporary. I think they deserve some credit because it does stop in the Contemporary, just not in the lobby. That'd be sort of awkward.

But the best misinformation I've heard comes from an acquaintance of mine:

-There is no direct park to park transportation provided by WDW (with one exception). So to park hop you board a bus to a resort, any resort, disembark, and wait for a bus going to the park you want to hop to.

-The lone exception being the boat you can take from MK to DHS.

I asked the live chat person who shows up when you are making a reservation online, how to have my luggage moved on a split stay. She insisted that I had to move it myself and moving my bags was NOT a service offered by Disney. I questioned this and she left to ask a supervisor. Came back a looong time later to advice that her supervisor confirmed this. Disney will not help you with your bags on a split stay.

I had even asked her if this means that I am going to board an already crowded Disney bus with five suitcases, take the bus to a park, wait there with my luggage and then take another bus to my new resort. She said "yes, or take a taxi".

Well, while I was waited for her to come back with her answer, I googled the answer and informed her that she and her supervisor were wrong.
