AMA Former Jungle Cruise Skipp

My girlfriend worked at Pop Century in food service on the college program before we started dating. Our experiences are extremely different, not only because of the resort vs park experience, but more notably full time vs college program.
what are the differences full time vs CP vs part time?

The concept of CP housing sticks out in my mind the most. I mean my girlfriend didn't even have a car and lived in disney housing. She had relocated from Western PA without a car it just boggles my mind.

Did you have any kind of jungle cruise initiation?
Thanks for this fund thread!

Benifits like main gate passes, food coupons, and access to discounted merchandise seemed pretty uniform across the board. Whether you were a full time skipper or a seasonal retired snow bird couple selling balloons on main street usa a few weeks a year, you seemed to get treated the same.

Keep in mind I was 19 I wasn't interested in health care or stock options. I was pumped just to know I could get my non Disney friends and roommates in once and a while and maybe get a free soft pretzel once in a blue moon.

The training to work in the MK is mk specific and if u work in adlib (Adventureland liberty square) frontierland or main street you are trained to set up for the parade which I felt was my mk initiation.
However I think for the jungle cruise your first live crew is your sink or swim moment. I mean you are trained and you practice on empty boats but that first boat of faces looking at me had me weak at the knees with nerves. Then your trainer steps off the boat and you take on the next boat load and the next, and for myself, it just was something I took to. Like a duck to water.

That is very interesting, what was the best interaction you had with a guest?

That's an easy one I was working as greeter and I saw a little girl, no more than four, and I noticed she was wearing a princess dress but it was much more elaborate and well made then a costume you might say, buy in a halloween store. I stooped down next to her and her mother and I said "princess your dress is so beautiful did a fairy god mother make it for you"... she said yes and gestured to her mother "I like that one song from the night time parade do you know it?" I began to hum some day my prince will come from spectro magic... I honestly couldn't remember the words as it was instrumental in the parade but had been stuck in my head from working the evening a few days prior. Her mother knelt down and the two of them sang it to me. It was like a wdw commercial tears in my eyes just typing this.

That is so sweet. It makes me tear up just reading it. I love the Jungle Cruise. Went on it just before MNSSHP at night, it was awesome in the dark with fog effects and the like. Went on it another night during SB and did not seems as spooky. Are there special effects added during the Halloween season?

Just wanted to say that the last few trips I've taken to WDW the Cruise has been so fun. Im usually the annoying girl laughing at the jokes and suck on a boat of fuddy duddies stick in the mud types. Thanks Skippers for all the humor!
