Hi I will be staying at Aulani in august and I was listening to the DisUnplugged podcast about Aulani where they gave a pretty poor review of Ama Ama. Has anyone else ate they there? I'd like to hear more opinions. Thanks

We had a few great lunches there. The main restaurant was overpriced for us, but we got out of Ama Ama (2 adult + 1 child's meals) for about $40. Have tried the Kalua sliders (pretty decent), Angus burger (meh), plate lunch special (pretty darn good), chicken salad sandwich (great!), and the kids mac & cheese was divine. We liked it so much that the next time we went we ordered it as a side to share even though we didn't have a child with us the second time I went! :rotfl:

The breakfast looked delicious though a bit overpriced for us, as did the dinner. It was a very relaxing way to take a break from the pool though, you can go in your swimclothes as long as you're covered up (as Hawaii natives, our standard beach gear includes rash guards and surf shorts so as to try to get as little sun as possible, so we were apparently appropriately dressed).

I know many have given Ama Ama poor reviews, however, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast there. We had a wonderful ocean-view table, the service was very good, and the breakfast was really delicious. The basket of pastries we ordered were to die for. We only ate there the one time, but I would definitely eat there again on our next trip.

We ate there last sunday dinner and had a wonderful dinner. Pricey but delicious and the staff was great! A must do for once a trip!:cool1:

I'm glad to hear some guests have good service (and get window seats) after reading the mousesavers review.

I too read that review, and thought it was rather harsh....with so many people reading it, I thought it was a bit unfair to post such a negative review with no chance for those of us who enjoyed AmaAma to post a rebuttal. I'm sure many people who read that will avoid it like the plague which would be a shame.

I'm just home from Aulani. We ate dinner at Ama Ama on Valentine's Day and lunch there another day. Dinner was not great and the service wasn't great either. I had the filet and thought it was tasteless. The potatoes on the side were pretty but disgusting! It was a $150 waste of money and time IMO. Lunch was better. It's more "reasonably" priced (not much more than the overpricedpoolside service.) My DH enjoyed his "plate luch" special. I had the hamburger and it was fine. The kids enjoyed the make-your-own dessert kebobs included with the kids meals. The service was PAINFULLY slow at lunch too.
In fact, the service at Ama Ama was the worst of the whole resort! I was extremely impressed with the staff at the front desk, the stores, the lifeguards, the servers at other restaurants, the cleaning and maintenace crews...everyone was sooo friendly and helpful. Just Ama Ama was lacking. :confused3
