Ok DISers, as you know this September will be my first solo trip, and my first DVC stay :goodvibes I am very excited about going but I just realized something . . . . I have spent NO time walking to get ready for my trip! Do you think I will regret it? The time really has slipped up on me! I cant believe I'll be there soon!

I have been going to water aerobics since the end of June, so I hope that will help with my stamina. Also, I figured that I could squeeze some walks in before I leave.

So tell me: Do you think I will suffer? Are there any other DISers out there who havent worked out either?

Glenda

One of the best parts about going solo is doing things at your own pace, seveal years ago, I went in Nov, and part of my trip was solo and very relaxing, and for part of it I was joined by a friend, and did the whole commando park touring thing, you know 4 parks in one day...I much prefered going at my own pace.

I think you will be fine, you get to do what you want, when you want and for as long as you want, take your time, really see things go on a ride you love twice in a row. You have no one too keep up with, but yourself.

Have a great Trip

Glenda, I have had people make fun of me because when I get to Disney you would think I run 10 miles a day....so not true. I just get so excited when I am there and I think you will do just fine. Especially on your own. How I would love to be able to that.

You have been doing aerobics, so you are in pretty good shape in the cardio-vascular sense, no? Then all I would worry about was having comfy shoes to wear.
I started jogging a few weeks ago (and am now up to 4.5 miles /hour) but I was doing nothing last July & August before my trip and I was absolutely fine.

I agree with this. My dh always does these exercises to get ready for all the walking, but I just go and make it on the pure rush of excitement. I think you will be fine:thumbsup2

Glenda -- I see you are from Baltimore. Did you go to Towson State? You look like person who did my freshman orientation (TRIAD), and her name was Glenda too!

I'm sure you'll have a great time at WDW, and DVC is the best! As for feeling out of shape, I feel out of shape pretty much every time I go. But then, the excitement, music, etc, gets me going and I am able to keep up with the best of them! Most important thing is good footwear. Bring a few different types (sneakers, flip flops, crocs) b/c even the most comfy sneakers can start to hurt after a couple days, and I find that switching up the types of shoes I wear really makes a difference!

Nope Glenda, I think you blew it and need to give me all your ADRs:lmao: :lmao: Seriously I THINK you will be fine - because if you get tired all you have to do is stop have a lemonade or a beer:drinking1 . Maybe an ice cream - head back to your resort, sit in the shade and do some people watching,,, The nice thing I found about a solo trip was the ability to change my mind at any time I felt like it.

One day I went to MGM, because you "do", of course. Well I like a couple of things there - the Brown Derby, TOT, Fantasmic. But I really don't care for the park or the rest of it - I liked it the first time, but now find it old and tired. JMO. So anyway I went over from the BWV on the boat which was nice and headed down the main street and I was feeling so tired. I stopped and got some pizza and watched some people and was going to hike over to TOT - which looked like a loooong hike to me at that point. I stated feeling down, got up, sat down, and got up and left the park. It was the most freeing thing I have done in a long time. I went back to my room, took a nap, and went over to EPCOT where I had a great time. I was SOLO, you know. It was my trip to do as I wanted and I just didn't feel like running my toes off, so I didn't.

You will be fine and have a great time - I suspect that if you get tired it will be because you have attracted all these Dissers who really like you and met up with them and had too good a time to stop:rotfl:

Just to make you feel better, I can't even remember the last time I worked out. ;) And definitely not before a vacation. Don't intend to start either.

Maybe I was under the false impression that WDW actually WAS my workout plan? :yay: You know, all those little mouse mazes at the bus stops, walking between attractions, running for fastpasses...

I hope I'm that excited, because my treadmill is DUSTY!

I've been doing water aerobics - so I GUESS I'm ok. And yes, I have comfy shoes: 2 crocs, 1 athletic sandel, 1 pair tennis shoes. So that's 4 total.

I agree with this. My dh always does these exercises to get ready for all the walking, but I just go and make it on the pure rush of excitement. I think you will be fine:thumbsup2
I'm praying that rush!

Yeah . . . Um . . . I STILL cant get over this!!!! DISers, just imagine the most 2 fun summers of your life in college, working at your most FUNNEST job ever. Then someone on the DIS whom you were responsible for - out of THOUSANDS of students - recognizes you! This really is a small world! Nennie, we need to talk!!!! :hyper2:

You are SOOOO funny! Loved your story! I keep forgetting that I can stop when I want to!

HA! Yes, that IS a work out! If you made it, so can I!!!

Thanks everyone for your encouragement!!!! I thought everyone was going to tell me that I was going DIE!!!!! :headache:

See ya!!!!!

Glenda, just remember, you have until 2047 to see everything, so there's no need to rush! I made a huge mistake on my first solo trip by rushing around and seeing whatever I wanted just because I could. The great thing about DVC is that you're free to relax a bit more because there's a 99.44% chance that you absolutely will be back soon!

Thanks! All of this is sooooo true! When I start to get tired, I'll start to chant, "2047 . . .2047 . . . 2047", then limp back to my room and take a nap!!!

You are supposed to work out before going to Disney? OMG... it's a good thing I never realized that, or I would have never gone.

I don't work out, my doesn't work out; when we go to Disney in the US (or DLP on a good day) it's always so hot (aren't used to that) and still... until now we have always survived. And we do the park commando thing a little bit :)
But next to rushing from one thing to another (don't do that at DLP anymore though... last trip, 3 days, 4 rides, yeehaa!) we also allow ourselves some down time. Last year at DL, we spent a whole afternoon in the lobby of the Grand Californian, people-watching. And we also spent some hours drinking cocktails and watching Paradise Pier at DCA.

If you're tired, sit on a bench, drink a cocktail, eat an ice cream, do some people-watching, go sit in a lobby, do some shopping, ...

Workout before Disney??? no way! ;)

Now this sounds NICE! I just hope that if I do manage to MAKE myself relax, that I'm thinking "Oh no, I should be at ___ in line for ____"!

I'm such a couch potato, but hopefully, I'll be okay, and I WILL try to RELAX!!! :goodvibes

I had the same "OMG" moment earlier today! My boyfriend and I never have time to go wallking together and my job gets very hectic in the summer so I pretty much stopped working out the last three months...
however, my boyfriend is a bartender, and i was a bartender (just quit cause of a promotion), so we're use to being on our feet for hours! Luckily at Disney, we can wear more comfortable shoes than we can when we work!

Lol! Have a great trip, don't forget the moleskin, just in case!
