Am I wrong for feeling this way? Venting.

No, she changed her drivers license and her mail to her sisters address. We wouldn't allow her to use ours.

No news on the job yet, Disney seems to be notoriously slow in their hiring process.
Then again ... it IS Christmastime, which is also notoriously busy for Disney. And if there are 20 positions open, they probably had thousands of people apply. You probably won't know before Christmas.

The lease only allows a guest to stay 30 days. And she talked with my mom last night about looking for an apartment. She was pricing some, but says she either needs a second job or a roommate. This makes it easier to ask for money because its less than what she'd pay in rent for a studio.

I think it's great that your mom is a giver, despite her own circumstances. You seem very tolerant too. These are admirable traits!

But you do have to watch out for those who'll take advantage. It really does those people no good to help them. Maybe your mom will feel better if it's presented in those terms, that some people will never learn to be self-sufficient if they are propped up too long. It is better for the friend in the long run to earn some independence and pride, not to mention manners.

Good luck with the job OP!!!!!

They told me I'd find out this week.

Are you & your mom working OP, or do you recieve some sort of government assistance? Asking because doesn't most assistance go by "household" income, including things like food stamps, heating assistance, etc? And if this woman is living there & works, you now would need to include her income in your household income reporting. Could affect what or how much assistance you & your mom will get. And failure to report it could result in other consequences.

We're not on government assistance. We're both on disability. The amount each of us receives goes by how much we made when we worked.

Glad to here at least you won't lose anything by letting her stay with you! Good luck with your talk with her. Hope she does right & pays her fair share.

If you're on disability, how are you able to work at Disney? I am on permanent disability since two yrs ago because after working for 28 plus yrs I could no longer physically work due to so many health issues.
Unless you're maybe on temp. disability?

When you're on disability you're allowed to make under a certain amount per month. Disney doesn't pay so well so doing it part time will keep me well under.

My significant other gets disability due to Cerebral Palsy. He has a part time job, they take his income into account when figuring monthly benefits.

I got paperwork from disability about working while on it and it doesn't mention anything about reducing or stopping benefits unless you make over the certain amount for 9 consecutive months. If I was to work and they'd reduce my benefits, it wouldn't pay to work. I'm not going to be making that much by working 3 days per week.

You can work under a certain amount each month BUT if you get to the threshold for a month (means meeting the limit that SSD places on you) that counts as one month. When you reach 7 months (is DOES NOT have to be consecutive) you are taken off SSD, given a period that you still receive and then are take off. If you then state you can not work again, you have what I consider a strike against you. SSD can fight that you are able to work.

It is a trade-off that many people need to consider and think about very carefully prior to working. Working is what SSD wants you to do. They want you off the program if you are capable of working. Working people are also happier. (I know it seems weird - happy to work!:confused3)

So if the OP works more because of holidays or extra shifts it is possible at some point to lose her benefits and when and if she has a review she MUST state she works/worked and it can be used against your claim.

Hope this clears this up.

I actually meant to quote this one, I think I remember hearing about this.

I'm confused? What do you mean by "it wouldn't pay to work"? Either you have the physical and mental ability to work a certain number of hours or you don't.

I can't speak for the OP, but with my disability the only type of job I "may" be able to hold on would be a part-time job with major flexibility. Some days I could do it no problem. But there may be 5-6 days in between where it would be physically impossible for me to make it to work let alone finish the shift. I would be fired by most or all employers.

I would love to try, really I would. I would never be able to find and keep a job anywhere near the income I used to make. What makes it even more pathetic, there is no part-time job that could guarantee me the small amount I make on SSD, but at least with the SSD I get medicare. Medicare really is not the best insurance but I am thankful I have insurance to help with all my medications this year. This year I have actually maxed my insurance meaning I spent more on insurance than I made from my SSD check. Since money does not grow on trees I am in the deficit. I am hoping to change my meds around and feel better next year.

Sorry this is so long.

My issues is also all physical. I forgot some people can get SSI for depression which is not always permanent so they can try and go back to work. Just using that as an example.
