"Can You Say: 'Best meal EVER!' ?"
....I'm not sure what site she'd opened - I was thinking it was a main restaurant ADR page; she looked at me and winked, telling me that an ADR had just opened up at 9PM, but that I could come downstairs [from the room] about 15 minutes earlier. I thanked her profusely and was very tempted to walk back to that Jiko manager and give her a 'what for', but I thought better of it, relishing my good fortune. Back at the room, I let Ron sleep for another 20 minutes, and woke him to let him know what had transpired. Besides, he wanted to wash up, change his shirt, and fix his hair - fair enough.
We walked along Zebra Trail, and if I'm not mistaken, I think there was a little bit of an extra bounce to my step. I had heard many positive things about Jiko, but surprisingly, it never occurred to me to ever make ADRs here....

We approached the podium, and I do believe that I spotted a little twinkle in the hostess's eye as she escorted us to a somewhat secluded table on the second tier with a grand view of the entire eatery:
....we were immediately introduced to our server of the evening - I vaguely remember her name as Sadi(?) [pronounced SAH-dee] and she was wonderful. She handed us a menu:
...and soon after brought two warm damp hand towels so that we could wash our hands. That was quite lovely, and was just another indication of the attention to detail and service. We weren't sure of which wine we were going to be drinking, so she opened several bottles and let us sample each. She already knew of Ron's celiac, so she assured us that chef would be coming to tableside. Meanwhile, she brought the most fascinating breads and butter-like spreads for them - Ron's was GF, of course. It was right about at this point where chef introduced himself and INSISTED that Ron try the Grilled Wild Boar tenderloin as an appetizer, while I should try the North African Carrot soup with black garlic ice-cream. Black garlic WHAT???:
OMG, did I just die and go to heaven??!?!? The night got better and better, with each ensuing course:
....I opted for the filet mignon[above] served over spoon bread, while Ron decided on the short ribs. I take it they were good, because he didn't even offer a taste for me....
....this was the dessert; it's made of chocolate and sinful as all heck, but we enjoyed it thoroughly. [BTW, it's called Ghanaian Chocolate and Kenyan Coffee Pot de Crème with raspberries!]
....as dinner was coming to a close, we insisted that chef come to table to pose with Ron, and to thank him for a meal truly fit for a king:
....as we 'rolled' past the extensive wine selection [Jiko boasts it to be the best on property]:
...and again past the lounge:
....we ventured out by Arusha Rock to take in some of the last of the AKL air before calling it a night....
