Am I too old for pins?

Go for it!!! I'm 35 and love trading! But, honestly, I love collecting more! I usually order 10-20 off ebay for trading pre-trip. DD trades most of them, I usually only find 2-3 I want to trade for. I end up having to buy ones I want usually. But I love them. I finally have enough now to make the word "Disney" from pins - I'm going to do this in a shadowbox in the next week or two & can't wait!

Yes. You are really old and people will point and laugh.
:rotfl:
I am 27 and wear a pink lanyard adorned with Sleeping Beauty movie pins. I too get many from ebay, even duplicates if they are a buck or two and save those to trade with CM who happen to have different SB pins.

The only exception are the teal colored lanyards; these are for trading with children only. So if you're an adult, don't ask to trade with a Cast Member wearing a teal lanyard (they're usually really nice about remind you).

Is there any particular reason why there's a kids-only lanyard? That seems a bit strange.

My DH, DS and myself wear our lanyards and trade. Mine is all Tinks, of course. It's funny, we go to both DL and WDW every year and pin trading is MUCH more popular at WDW. We sometimes find it difficult to find a CM with pins at DL. But, it makes the hunt more exciting. :)

What are the pin trading *rules*??

...With a Cast Member, you can ask to trade a pin from their lanyard/book for one of your pins (you don't have to be wearing your pins on a lanyard - I carry mine in a baggie in my purse).

The pin you offer must be an official Disney pin (there is a copyright Disney logo on the back).

So long as the Cast Member does not already have same pin, they are usually happy to trade with you (they aren't supposed to say no).

There might be other rules...

The one other important rule is that you can only trade 2 pins per CM lanyard or book. This becomes important when a CM has 3 pins you are dying to have. (sigh, been there....)

Well... some adults take pin trading EXTREMELY serious. They know when and where to find CM with the newest pins and get as many as they can so they can trade with people placing their own "value" on these pins.

Having some designated lanyards only for kids gives kids a fair shot against some of the over-zealous adults.

JMO of course,
Dreams (who was gifted her first pin and now has close to 400 LOL)

I am almost 44 and love pin trading. On this trip I am trying something different. I am bringing some 2010 Olympic pins to give as a special treat to my favourite/nice cm's I trade Disney pins with.:thumbsup2

2010 Olympic pins, fun!

FYI: If you are planning on trading them to the CM you mentioned, s/he can't accept them since they are not Disney pins. (Although you said "give" so maybe you were planning something else. :goodvibes)

P.S. Technically, CMs can also accept pins from the various DtD businesses as well. We have traded a few Rainforest Cafe pins with CMs in the past.

You're not too old at all!

I'm 32, and I cheat at the pin collecting thing. I don't trade. I buy mine on eBay and put them in a book. I spend so much $ on other things, I just cheap out on pins. But, I still enjoy it! It's definitely not DH's thing, though.

Well I'm 37 and DBF is 34, he's the BIGGEST pin trader in our family.....LOL He could just sit at a table with his pin book and trade all day and be happy as a clam. :) No, you're not too old.....and if you are then I've got a big problem. LOL You should see the pins in my room.....

Nah I'm 20 and I still carry my lanyard with the pins everytime I go to Disneyland. Last time I went was the first time I actually traded though. A little girl probably about 4-5 yelled out " Hey mister, you want to trade?" and of course I had to. I got a Pinnochio for a Tinkerbell. :thumbsup2

I am planning to trade my Disney pins but give the Olympic pins to the cm's just as a nice gesture:goodvibes

I thought EVERYONE was a kid at Disney........... :goodvibes

Never. I have as much fun as my kids with pins. Since I'm paying to fund e habit might as well enjoy it. We love trading and hunting the missing ones for sets together.

50+ with 5 trading kids! My favorite pins are the ones from the kids who trade something of theirs for something they think would be special to me...like the DL Band or Electrical Parade. We love to arrange our lanyards and reaarange and rearrange and rearrange ad infinitum!!!

We went to a pin trading ittle workshop where BLAB is now. They had CM tell about pins and some of the etiqeutte in trading.
Ask to see the pins. The CM will hold out the lanyard for you to view. Request a trade. They cannot accept a pin they already have. Remove your pin and put the back on it, then offer your pin in an open palm up hand. They will do the same.
Thank the CM!

i dont think you never to old to do anything..

i dont collect pins but if i did i am older then 30 and i would collect and trade for sure.
