Am I the only one who's not a fan of VQ only?

I’ve never been to a Rope Drop. Do people really get there that early?

Back when ROTR first opened & you had to be INSIDE the park for the 7am VQ so I recall getting to the parking lots like 5:30 (which meant leaving home 4am) to get in line outside the gates waiting to be let in. Now that was ridiculous cause all of the craziness & not knowing only to find out by 7:01 if you had a BG or not. I find it an improvement that for the 7am VQ you don't have to be IN the park so at least you can change parks if you want now.

But let's be honest Disney doesn't want you waiting in lines for hours on standby. They want you shopping, eating/drinking or buying the LL

You're right, it was craziness and a bit of 'cool' combined in too. I remember the feeling of standing inside DHS in the wee hours of the morning, trying for a VQ, the cheers that went up and then once the park opened, moving with the sea of guests into the park.

The morning we did it we rode SDD about 3 times in 30 mins. How cool watching the sun rise and the park awaken!

Don't want to go back to those days but glad we were able to experience it - once. ;)

I remember the groans of the people that DIDN'T score the ROTR VQ. But yes, seeing the sunrise from Galaxy's Edge was cool.

The ROTR VQ back when they first opened was one of the most nerve wracking times of my life. I flew down for a quick one day trip Feb 2020 to see ROTR because I wanted to go on it before the ride parts started breaking down and never fixed (which to this day of my 6 rides on it, it is the ONLY one where every component was working). I only had one chance as I was only down for one day. Me and two other friends came. My phone decided to need me to re login right as I refreshed for the VQ. Thankfully my friend got it for our party. I almost died.

The elation and devastation of people who either got it or didn't was completely evident just looking at the crowd. It was so intense.

Exactly. That part made me sad :sad1: The crowd atmosphere was all over.

They’re saying they can’t do it because the ride has a VQ only. Rides with VQ don’t let you do that unless you have a boarding pass. So the rides that currently have only VQ would have short, 20 minute lines just before closing if they had no VQ. So they could get in line for GOTG just before closing & ride with almost no wait. Coz the 3 - 4 hour wait from all day would magically disappear at 8:45 pm.

Oh ... but I think that is wishful thinking. If there were standby for those rides - they will be crushed at opening, maybe worse than Rise, standby would be full all day and then at the end of day everyone would have the plan to rush there and try to get on. Tron especially folks want to ride at night.

It's a moot point though imo because Tron would almost certainly flout all of this conventional strategizing wisdom because of the unique factor of being a thrill ride that pretty much everyone agrees is a better experience at night. I know whenever I buy ILL for Tron I always select evening times to guarantee at least 1 ride at night. It's the same reason they strictly enforce the return window there for BGs, unlike Guardians. The meta would absolutely be jump in line at the end of the night. I think the line would still be much shorter than during the day, but it's imo a bit delusional to think you would be waiting less than 20 to ride that in standby at park close.

We are going to find out very quickly that the standby experience for Tron is going to be very similar to any other attraction that Disney has added over the past several years. They may eventually introduce something that breaks the mold and creates longer than expected waits in the evening, but Tron isn't it.
