Am I the only one that think Home Resort does not matter that much?

I don't understand why you own points at 4 different DVC resorts if where you own doesn't matter to you? What's the point in owning at more than one location?

We thought that certain hotels maybe better and maybe better incentives....It really does not matter to us where we stay. So actually, I have no idea why we own at different resorts.:confused3

Home resort matters to us very much. I would rather book a cash room over staying at OKW or SSR. VWL is where we want to stay and I do not want to deal with waitlists. If where you stay doesn't matter then your home resort does not matter, if you do care where you stay then it probably does matter.

It matters to me because I like to go early December, and I like to stay at my two home resorts.

It matters to me because I like to do 11 month bookings for Concierge level at AKV.

It matters to me because I like to know that I can book a GV at the 11 month window easily and for relatively few points. (OKW) I recently tried to book a GV at my home OKW within the 11-7 month window and found nothing available. I'm VERY glad I have the 11 month window there!

It matters if you own BWV and want a standard view room during Food and Wine.

It matters if you own BCV for Food and Wine and summer pool fun.

Home resort does not matter to me at WDW because of the great success I have had booking the so called difficult resorts at the 7 month booking window. We travel only during the busy times and have never had a problem booking at 7 months at the resort of our choice. The only resort in my opinion where you really need home resort to book is HHI in the summer months. This only my opinion as I know other people have had trouble at 7 months. I do book at the exact 7 month mark for optimal success.

This is true for us too. We have stayed at every DVC except HH. We always go at popular times and can generally stay at many different DVC's. Visiting BLT for second time, VWL 3X...alll places where we do not own. We don't even plan ahead at times. We get reservations 3-4 months ahead of time at the smaller DVC's (VWL, BCV amd BLT)....

Hi,
Bought my WLV DVC first cause i love it......Still my favorite....after trying the others....
But I wanted to be able to guarantee a stay at WLV during the peak....Early Dec....cheap points time....end of story.
Gives me piece of mind....

Home resort also does not matter to me.I'm happy just to be at WDW and I think all of the resorts are beautiful places to stay.I would eventually like to stay at each resort, but am perfectly happy at OKW or SSR(where I own),when I want to try for another resort,if it is not available at 7months I'll just waitlist but still be happy wherever we are.I am unable to go during the DVC"busy times" like 1st 2 weeks of Dec,etc...so I figure I have a pretty good chance of eventually trying all the resorts:thumbsup2

It matters to me - I do have preferences about where I stay, so I appreciate the home resort advantage. Also, dues are very important over the life of membership, so I wouldn't want to just own anywhere to get in the system, especially in a case where I was choosing a resort simply because of low purchase price. The dues, as others have said, will be the biggest cost of ownership over the contract life.

If you can never book earlier than 7 months, then it doesn't really matter IMO.

Doesn't really matter to us. With one exception, we added on at AKV so we could stay at concierge if we wanted to. Even with that contract, it sometimes hard to snag. Other than that we have always been successful getting where we wanted at the 7 month window. Even during Food & Wine.

We have a 1BR MK view at BLT for New Years week (11 months). Cant measure the excitement. :yay: We have 5 of us so it works perfectly. If we were sitting on an OKW or SSR 2BR-hoping to switch at 7 months-well, the end result of such a lopsided defeat as that, is too obvious to require elaboration.

It hasn't mattered to us (so far). We LIKE staying somewhere else each time so that each trip is different but we also like SSR enough that if we CAN'T get anyplace else we're OK with that. Well, except unless we couldn't get SSR and would have to go to OKW. Then we might consider doing a cash ressie instead. Actually, we HAVE done a cash ressie in order to not stay at OKW when it was the only one avail. So. No. Doesn't matter so much to us either.

Home resort doesn't really matter to me too much. We have stayed in all the DVC resorts (except BLT...next month!) and really have had a great time in all of them.

Now, my DH has zero desire to ever return to AKV or BWV. We don't own there, so no problem.

We are relatively new members so we can't make statements whether we like or dislike resorts as we have only stayed at BLT. We loved BLT. However, we do take advantage of the Home Resort and make reservations at the 11 month to insure ourselves a villa for our desired vacation time. For our second DVC stay in October 2010 we switched from our home resort at AKV to BWV at the 7 month mark. We wanted to see for ourselves the advantage of staying at BWV's during F&W, so we switched. However, if the only resorts that were available at 7 months had been OKW or SSR, we would have gladly accepted those reservations. I think right now we are trying to stay at various resorts so we can make a more educated decision on the importance of home resort. Even though it seems pretty obvious that during certain times of the year you might not even get a reservation if you don't take advantage of the home resort.

It matters to me. I want to stay in a standard view villa at the BWV when we visit - typically, during Flower & Garden, Food & Wine & early December. I do not want to waitlist. I want to book my room and be done with it. Owning at BWV matters to me. A lot!

IMO, SV villas are DVC's best bargain.

There's nothing wrong with the other DVC resorts - each has its charms. But I do not want to pay more points to stay at one of them (well except for OKW & maybe AKV Value), when I believe so strongly that no other resort has BWV's great location.

:thumbsup2 We had to purchase AKV as a home resort so DH could visit his "pets". :cloud9:

Then tonight.....he asks "do you think we can stay at a Treehouse?" :scared1:

I bought SSR, over price. 2nd lowest MF and resale for the price and exp. date was a steal, compared to all other resorts. Before that we never stayed at any, so we had no idea of resorts available. Since then I booked at 11 months SSR, and flipped ressies at 7 months to ...
BCV, (1 bed room and studio)
BW, (studio)
BC (1 bedroom)
AK (studio Kidani)
On different trips/spllit stays.

I LOVE BC, BW, and will see AK in Sept. I went to SSR on an on the spot trip and would not be disappointed if I had to stay anywhere. For the intial upfront price of about 35$ a point and 1-3$ per point on MF right now (and exp date) it is the right choice. If I end up with what I want only 25% of the time for the difference now it is worth it. So far 100% I have.

I do intend to add on, probably in the next 9 months to 1.5 years. At that point I will add on 100% with more where I want to stay. May be BWV maybe BC, and depending on where the next DVC resort is (like if it is Poly or something), maybe somewhere new.

..If I did it over again today, I wouldn't change it, as I feel I pay for SSR ( at about 25% - 30% off the price of the others) and get a free up grade to BC, BWV, or AK right now (even if it ends up later to be only sometimes).

I also 1000000000000% understand why it would matter to people. If money was limitless.. I would buy else where too.

If I'm planning a trip within a month or a couple of weeks, then I don't care where I stay. But when I'm planning for Flower & Garden, Food & Wine or early December (or all of them), I definitely want to stay at my home, BWV, and I definitely want standard view.

So I guess it matters to me where I own.

We've only stayed at our home resort once in nearly 6 years of ownership. As discussed in other threads, we find ourselves to be "network" owners rather than "destination" owners. Since I'm fairly attached to BWV, not my home resort, I can fully understand the importance of Home Resort to many DVCers.

I really don't think home resort matters that much. I have favorite DVC's (BWV, BLT...) but mostly, I am just glad to be going to Disney. I see advantages in every DVC and disadvantages. I like staying in different DVC's every time I go.

I love SSR and OKW and there is usually availability there.

So other than owning at HH or Vero (which I love too), I really dont get the big deal of where you own.... If it is a busy time, I call at the 11 mo window and book where every I have points (we own at 4 DVC's AKL, SSR, BCV and BWV).

For me, the difference between my least fav DVC and most fav DVC is very so small, it just does not matter.

I don't get the big deal with where you own....Does anyone else agree? because there is some pretty big price differences based on something that maybe many people dont care about.
Home resort is important if you want a given resort most trips and esp if you want a difficult to get room most times. Other than that it's not that important other than I think owning on property and booking at 11 months out is still important thus I don't think VB or HH are good vehicles for WDW trips. Overall it depends on the $ spread, how flexible you are and your wishes.

I will bet that Disney will be changing the home resort rules in the future. Allowing members to buy at inexpensive resorts and stay at BLT doesn't make good business sense.
