If ever I wandered around whistling my Nan would tell me " a whistling woman and a crowing hen is neither good to God nor men" and I used to believe that sexist old nonsense!
One of my primary school teachers was full of sayings. Her favourite was "if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well." Now I am grown I wish a lot more people would live by that rule.
