Am I the only one that doesn't like Yankee Candles? I tried to like them but the scents make me feel ill. Please tell me there are some others out there who don't like Yankee Candles...

EF, I very much LIKE YC but, only the scents I've enjoyed! So, take it from there. I think there MUST be something YC that you'd like (I didn't 'find' what I liked until someone else paid for it!) I like the stronger, fruity scents. I've tried many others but, if it isn't STRONG, it basically defeats the purpose to pay for a 'scented' candle, imo.

DH's preference of Tangerine, well..... I don't like that one! :(

Watermelon, Pineapple, Vineyard, Peach, Berry Bramble and MacIntosh are my top faves! I've tried the lemonade one, too. It isn't strong. I still have Lemon Pound Cake to try. I'm waiting to burn Root Beer though! It smells good! Also, the orange peel & orange sherbet candles smell good to me, I'm still waiting to burn those, too! And, I have CARNATION!! (I didn't like it once I burned it though :( . MAJOR disappointment since, I've always wanted a TRUE-Carnation-scented candle) And, for the holidays, I have Black Licorice, Peppermint swirls and Egg Nog!! YUM-YUM!! ;)

I hope you'll eventually find something to your liking. ;)

I don't like the candles because no matter how often I burn them or how I trim the wick they leave black crud on my ceiling and walls. I use the tarts and like Kim I like what I like and can't stomach what I don't. Dh's grandmother likes honeydew melon and it makes me ill.:( Yesterday I got some tarts.... pumpkin pie, Harvest and Christmas Eve!! There are some that are so strong I can't burn them at all or only burn them in the summer when the windows are open.... blueberry is a good example of that!

I was thinking about posting something similar. While I like Yankee Candles in general, I can not stand to go into the store! All those scents together make me feel ill.

Funny, KimRaye, I don't like fruity scents...and that's what DH and the kids keep buying me. My favorite of the ones I have right now is "Buttercream", but the first time I burned it the kids thought I had baked while they were at school (silly kids!) and it's hard to stick to one's diet when one smells cake all day. :)

I love Yankee Candles, but many of their scents make my allergies act up! I can't burn many of the outdoorsy ones because of that. Even Berry Bramble I had to give to DH to burn in his office because I got stuffed up and an itchy throat each time I lit it. I have to stick to the food type scents in order to avoid an allergic reaction. I am able to burn Harvest with no problem too. My all time favorite is Buttercream. I also love Pineapple Paradise.

I personally think many of their scents don't smell good at all. Even ones that I *wish* I liked, including all the ocean and beachy scents, just don't smell authentic and I think they smell terrible. So I stick with my favorites and once in a while I find a new one to enjoy. My DSs can't stand going into the YC stores either, because of the mixed scents in the air.

I don't like scented candles of any make, model or variety. I get a bad headache from perfumes.

I am like Baboo, any scent makes me sick. Another reason I don't like them is that they are so stinking exensive and I am a tightwad....oh well I guess I am missing out!!!

Nope, I don't like them either. I only use/buy candles from Illuminations now. I have allergies and sinuses and they dont' seem to bother me; another big plus is that they also don't bother my parrot.

They are a tad more expensive than regular candles but I can fill up my ENTIRE apartment with the scent from one lit candle. Plus, they don't leave any mess. I sure wish they would bring the Ambrosia scent back....

I can handle some of the earthy ones, but those pumpkin, ginger, butterscotch type ones make me nauseous. Especially in the store where they're all clumped together. I need to wear a respirator when I go there! :D

I've never purchased one. I'm sure there are scents that I would like, but I usually buy pillar candles.

I don't like that they only have votives, tarts and the jars. I'm not a fan of big jar candles.

I like Clean Cotton,Balsam Fir, Stormwatch, Ocean Breeze. All the pumpkin pie and fruity ones, as well as most of the other scents, make me feel like I am going to have an asthma attack(and I don't eve HAVE asthma! ).

Interesting thread!

Like Mermaid 02, I think that I like the scents that I like, and many of the other scents give me a headache. What is funny is that one of the ones that I LIKE and DON'T give me a headache is Honeydew Melon! :) And THAT one fills my 2 story home with scent.
I am willing to give scents a try - one votive at a time. But I have not come across any others that I have liked burning as well as the Honeydew Melon.
I have used Colonial Candles of Cape Cod and never had a "headache" problem with them. I wish that THEY would bring back their Beach Plum! :)

Sorry to disagree with you, but I love Yankee candles (right Kim)
I'm presently burning a Black Licorice which is just heavenly.

I don't have any. Not that I don't like them, I never tried them. I only burn candles if the electric goes out. I am too cheap to buy them, I have so many other candles given to me as gifts.

Like others who have posted, I do like some of their fragrances, but find it hard to breathe when I am in the store.

Actually, as I sit here, my head is hurting and my stomach is feeling "yucky." I would swear that both feelings are being aggrevated by a YC Tulip votive that I have sitting on my table - still in its wrapper! That sucker must be STRONG!!!
I think that I am going to lay down AND stick to Honeydew Melon. :)

No scents for me. I alway dread that part of the holidays - many people like to use candles while entertaining. I suppose it would be nice to find a scent I could stomach - but I'm not about to sniff a bunch of candles to find one! And that's without even mentioning my allergies!

I won't buy them because of their residue. My neice who uses them has black marks on her ceilings and seems to get bronchitis a lot. I would worry about causing a fire if I used them.

I also do not like them. It's the dirty burn that bothers me. A candle in a blackened jar is just ugly. And cleaning the jars is messy! Not to mention the walls and drapes. I prefer votive candles, my current favorite brand is Colonial Candle, although I AM irritated that they went to an oval shape on the votives. They are smaller now. I've tried Yankee votives and they leave an ugly residue on the sides of the votive container. Colonial votives liquify and leave ne smears on the glass. picky, ain't I????
