Am I the only one spoiling grandchildren?

Me! I'm another grandmom/mom who loves to "spoil" the kids and grands with Disney. Just a couple of days ago Pops came home from work to find the grands (girl age 5 and boy age 3) were at our house for an overnight visit. Pops says to grandson, "Are you ready to go back to see Mickey Mouse?" Grandson gets up, puts his jacket on, grabs his cup of juice and says, "I ready to go to Disney World." :lmao: No way he would even know what his Pops was talking about if he hadn't already been several times. I think those early years are the most magical ones. Even if the little ones can't remember everything about those early trips, they can look at the pictures and hear the stories the adults tell. That's such a bonding experience to share those stories and pictures from past events too. Besides, WE remember and treasure those sweet expressions of delight and joy when our little ones are having fun. I have 6 kids, a daughter in law, and 2 grandkids and I LOVE being able to share our Disney vacations with all of them at any age. It is THE reason we decided to buy DVC.

VLee - that's the kind of spoiling I do! I was a single mom for so many years, and I wasn't able to spoil my own children when they were young with anything close to DVC, but now I'm 58, worked my way to a SVP Postion, and now pay the whole nine yards for everyone to go...I feel so blessed to finally have this opportunity to give to my family. The love I see between my son and daughter and the joy I see watching them with their children at Disney is beyond words. I don't really expect non Disney people to understand the magic of Disney. I get back so much more than I give.

Who me spoiling??? I'm just keeping the tradition going that was started by my grandparents and parents of going to DL. Taking family and friends is why I have DVC.

We just had 20 of us on the Disney Wonder last Nov with half of us doing WDW before and after the cruise. The kids 2 - 9 had a blast and already want to know when we're going again!

Next year it's DL in Nov to see the X-mas decorations.

Our grandsons (now 9 and 7) have been to WDW every year they've been alive! We have a annual fall gathering and will do so as long as we are able. That's not spoiling - that's tradition!

I think it is great that you vacation with your family. Your grandchildren are building great memories of life with you and you are teaching them the value of extended family. :goodvibes

This is a topic near and dear to my heart! I had another thought. I think that children's experiences throughout their life build upon each other. Even if they do no actually remember the events, the love and happiness we share at WDW and doing other things creates an overall positive relationship. I know we don't have to bring them to Disney to do this - we get it in many different venues, but our Disney trips help make it extra wonderful!

Couldn't agree more with you!!!

We rented DVC points for our first trip as grandparents. Our darling DGS was nine months old and we wanted him to be comfortable. LoL We instantly bought our first contract following that trip. Our son married a lady with a five year old so now we have two DGSs. They both adore going to Disney World and are constantly asking when our next trip will be. The vacations after they both came along have been so much more fun than the ones before. Actually everything in our lives is better through their eyes. Being a grandparent is a bonus I never dreamed could be so wonderful. So no, you are not the only one spoiling your granchildren. But is loving them that much really considered "spoiling"? LoL

 Hi!

Please tell me more about feeding manatees lettuce!

Thanks.

Hi Bobbi,
When you come off the NEMO ride, I think it was on the right hand side. There was a tank with the manatees that was about 3 feet high that you could look into and they feed them several times a day. The marine biologist handed John a head of lettuce (romaine) and told him to throw it in the tank. John literally threw it in and the manatee swam over and ate it. He was amazed that they were so big and yet they only ate lettuce.:lmao:

Charmaine

Something else I should add, is that I hope that by taking my nieces and nephew now, we'll start our own little traditions and they'll take me when I'm old and gray. I told Katie that she would have to wheel me around the park when I got old and she said "sure Aunt Charmaine, I love you and I love it here, I'll take you whenever you want":cloud9:. Believe it or not, she's four and that was without any prompting from her mom and dad. That was music to my Mickey ears:woohoo:.

Charmaine, we'll have to look for them when we exit the Nemo ride. Your nephew is not the only one totally facinated that they can get so large on what they eat! Katie sounds like a nice little girl, and I'm sure you have lots of good times ahead of you two!!!
