I am also a teacher, so that limits my flexibility. I thought I should be able to find a way to get at least the ticket upgrade...but of course, its not good for the dates I want at WL.

By the way, is Wilderness Lodge worth the extra $$ over a moderate. We have never stayed on Disney property and just want something convenient with our three kids 7, 5 and 18 mos.

I don't know if it's worth it but we booked it for myslef, hub, dd5 and ds2. We've only ever done value resorts but figured the bunk beds were a huge bonus (we get a bed to ourselves!!) and dd is psyched about sleeping in a top bunk, and I've requested bedrails for the bottom. Plus the convenience of being to able to boat across to MK. However, we're doing a quickie trip this summer (just me and the kids) and we're staying at AS Movies for 3 days.

So, out of the 120,000 DIS members, assuming all are active and posting, only 60,000 have discount codes. Out of those, some people do not get to use the code because, like you, they fall into wrong date range, wrong resort type, etc. So, maybe you have only 30,000 out of the 60,000 who has the code. Then out of that group of people how many people actually use the code and go to the World? We'll apply liberal figure and say 15,000. Out of those 15,000, 14,999 of them used the CM-messed up discount code from several weeks back. So, that leaves only 1 person out there in DIS that is using a legitimate discount code. So, you're not alone when booking something using rack rate.

To the OP, on my first 12 trips to Disney - I paid the applicable rack rate for whatever season I was travelling in.

On my upcoming 13th trip.. I'm getting a discounting.

I received the infamous pin code. I didn't even ask. The CM said, "Well, if your dates are flexible, you could save some money." I said sure and she told me that the dates were for whenever, no blackouts. Then I found out that August 5-11 (which is when we are going) IS blocked out. (Along with the whole summer). Anyway, I am ticked because I was told no blackout dates, but there are. I am paying rack rate for AKL w/ savannah & dining plan for $3400. I hope free dining comes out!

Paying rack here. Also going towards the end of May. The 40% off code wasn't available for my dates and my dates aren't negotiable. So, instead of a deluxe we're staying at POP. At least I was able to get the free ticket upgrade, but that promo ended 2/18.

ETA: Here's the funny thing though. Last year we got free dining during the value season so we splurged and booked Poly GV. This year we booked POP during regular season and are paying for dining and it is still over $1,000 less. Disney isn't losing ANYTHING by offering their promos.

I found that the AAA discount is better if you book through disney and tell them you have AAA.

Try it.. call AAA and get a price. Now call disney and tell them AAA. Our trip during the peak summer months was a few hundred dollers cheaper. 20% off

For my last 4 trips, three were AP discount, one was rack rate. My next trip is currently AAA discount, because no AP discounts are out yet. But sometimes there's no availability with a discount at the resort I want, so if I really want that resort, I am willing to pay the price.

I do find a discount most of the time, between the resident, AP, and AAA discounts. But not always.

The only time I have paid Rack Rate is for Free Dining.
AAA has great rates, we went Dec.19-31 and paid $63 a night at Pop.
We are going Aug. and Sept. and are paying rack and getting Free Dining.
They usually have great AP rates, there is AAA and a lot people get postcard rates. There has been a 40% off code going around too.

Just to warn people, I have been asked for my AP when using an AP discount. And yes... I had an AP.

We're rack rate, also. We're going 12/10-12/15, WL. Now if some kind of discount comes along that applies to our package and our TA is able to get it I will be very grateful. I'll also probably spend the savings in the parks so I guess it would just be a phantom savings

"Phantom Savings!" I wish I'd thought of that term when DH asked me after our last trip where the $560 went that we saved with a code!

BTW, I booked a AAA package last year and this year.

We did that exact thing w/ our boys when we were there in August - worked out GREAT!!!! The older one loved the top and the little one (3 at the time) was thrilled and the bed rails were perfect! Ans we all the boats SO much!!! Have fun!

We are scheduled at WL from 5/24 - 5/30. I have absolutely no discounts!! Am I the only person out there who actually has to pay full price and get no extras? What am I doing wrong?

Try aaa. For WL the discount is 10% during that time if you can find availability. I dont know what kind of view you have But all are over 260. 10% of 260 is 26 X 6 nights is 156. Price for 1 person to join aaa for a year should be no more than 70 if you dont already have it. So even if you have to purchase it you could save you over $80.

If you arent' doing the ddp you can get your tickets separately. You can get a pretty decent discount by going to mousesavers.com signing up for the newsletter and using the link in that. not awesome but every little bit helps right?

I did get a pin code this year but it was good at a value resort only and we are staying at a mod, so it didn't help.

Did you call and ask to use it? I have yet to hear of a pin code that was truely only good at value resorts. They all come out telling you what kind of deal you can get at a value but that is kind a startin point as they cant exactly print out every possibility. If you did ask and were told no it was mostlikely 1) a misinformed cm or 2)no availibilty for your dates

I'm paying rack rates for our upcoming trip in June. It's a popular time of year, so I'm guessing we're stuck with full price for now. Off-season isn't an option for us, because DW is a college professor.
