Am I missing something or is this the worst PIN ever?

I already booked a trip for late August, using a previously-received PIN code. But, I just received another PIN in the mail. I was super excited, thinking it could be even better. Then I opened it. Here's the text:

Experience the Magic in August and Save
When you purchase a 5-night/6-day Walt Disney Travel Company vacation package that includes accommodations and Theme Park tickets!

For example, stay at Select Disney Value Resorts
$460* per adult based on double occupancy in a standard room.
For stays most nights 8/5/12-8/31/12.

That's a savings of 16%!
Add a Child (3-9) for $257 more!

I'm not complaining, because, like I said, we already have our trip booked, but this doesn't even seem worth the paper it's printed on. What am I missing?

I got one with the same wording but $475 a person at a value and then there weren't even any value rooms available with it! :lmao:

I guess this is what Disney was talking about last year when they said they would be stepping back on discounts. I'm booked room only right now starting June 18th at gasp....rack rate :scared1:. I've never paid rack rate.

Just waiting and hoping for an AP discount to pull this off.

The only value to PINs any more seems to be that they sometimes include dates for which there are no other discounts available. But PIN offers for times of year when general public offers are available are little more than "sucker bait", intended for those who don't know about general public discounts I suppose. We got one offering a whopping 10% room-only discount that was valid at the same time as free dining and the 25/30/35% GP room only offer.

I just got one of those. I was so excited when the CM told me I had a PIN attached to my household when I was on the phone for her. And her most excited voice she said "You can save 10% on a room!!!" After I told her I wanted to use the 20% from the spring offer.

I wonder if people don't really think about that when they book! :scared1:

But every CM I've ever talked to in Reservations has been more than open about every possible discount available. So maybe the PIN is just a way to get someone on the phone, or thinking about a trip?

I received a similar pin for November and was confused, so I called. It took the person awhile to figure it out and then she came back and said that it was just a free upgrade to park hopper with fun and more. That is why it is such a low %. Didn't work for me as we don't purchase park hoppers or the fun and more.

My answer yes! We are normal off season folks which is why I am truly upset. We are only saving 20% on our room and I am used to paying $49.00 to $69.00 for a room at value resorts. But we are going for my daughter's graduation with 4 other family members. I just hate it is so expensive. I wanted at least free dining for June but oh well no such luck :(
