Am I missing something ... BA vs Virgin

I am planning a trip for 4 adults, which will be 2 rooms, in September.
I have gone for the same dates on both

Virgin with car and 2 rooms ( no discount either cc or on line ) = 4437

BA flights only and hire car, book 2 rooms at same resort seperately cost comes to 3586

If I book with my Virgin CC I get 10 % off which makes the Vigin cost 3994.

So BA and booked seperately would be a saving of 400 quid.

The major down side is BA do have a tendancy to strike, and if you cancel you get nothing back, but I wondered what peoples thoughts were?

Sounds about right, very rare we do VH.
To compare you need to look at VA and get a flight only price and do same as you have done with BA.
Adding car to a VH package is almost never a good idea, for us to add a VH car for 25 nights in Aug its over £800, booking with Ainet or similar its around £500.
Where you priced BA hotel? with BA? they have the odd deal but again usually other sites are a lot better.

We have going with VH next Xmas as they offered a very good price £580 each flight/hotel (this was before 10% sale when prices went up, personally feel VH sales are a con) but I wont be taking their car.

There are many things which may disrupt your holiday, tech plane, baggage handlers, security alert.

To be honest I wouldn't have given the BA strike threat a 2nd thought.
For £400 saving for a comparable service it would be BA for me.

Also BA tend to be a lot more reliable with their flight times at the moment.

Its not a comparable service though, he has compared a VH package with car against BA flight only, hotel a car hire. I would expect £400 can be saved by doing a like for like comparrison but not enough detail to check.

After years with Virgin, I have traveled BA last year and will do so again this year, they have been cheaper most of the time, and their aircraft have seemed to have a better punctuality than virgin as of late.

However, I most likely will be back to Virgin for 2009!!!

Depends where you are flying from also, Virgin is almost always the cheaper option for us from Man, BA we have to either pay for connection to London or drive down and pay crazy parking fees.

The hotel was Disney POP Century, which I got the price from disneyworld.co.uk which was 588 per room. On BA for the same 2 rooms for 4 adults it was 1300 quid.

I think the BA option is a seriuos go then, cause 400 quid is almost 800 dollas and thats the food taken care of for the 2 weeks !

I have checked Virgin for Sept and many dates are a few £'s cheaper than BA.
The rooms can be bought cheaper with Hotelopia with codes and cashback £550/room but it would all have to be paid upfront, for what you lose in interest probably best using Disney.
What price you got on car and what size?

We booked BA for April 08 last summer, way cheaper than Virgin.

A few weeks after we'd booked the flights BA holidays emailed us with 20% off all their hotels, which made them way cheaper than anything we could find online, don't know if we were just lucky or that's something they do regularly?

If you've got kids they pre-allocate you seats together before anyone else can book their's, which is an advantage for me (not if you don't have kids though I suppose)

Obviously haven't been yet so I can't comment on the service!

The only downside of booking with disney.uk is that you cant get your deposit back unlike disney direct. If you wanted to cancel then you lose your deposit. If you had booked directly with disney you would get all your money back providing they have something like more than 24 hours notice.

By Disney direct, do you mean the US Disney site? Am looking into booking seperate flights and hotel for April/May and want to get the best deal.

I always thought this until yesterday !!

I checked the price of a room for two nights in Pop Century with disney.com and it was £105.00. With disney.co.uk it was £84.00.

I will ALWAYS check both in future.

Thats the only way to do it, it varies so much, you need to check both sites for every trip.
