Am I crazy?

Just for my own curiosity, are you saying there is a 50% mortality rate just in GBS. Isn't this something that is passed while the baby is inside the mother or when coming out, and not something they can "catch" at the parks?

Also, is Pentameric antibodies the only antibodies infant or human carry? I seriously have no idea, I just put my trust in my doctor....I assume he would not lie to me.

On the other note, my daughter, did come down with a 100.5 degree fever at 31 days old. She was immediately taken to the hospital, had a urine test and blood test. They decided against a spinal tap, because she was 31 days and not under 28 days old. Apparently, there is a big difference in what the can fight in a matter of days. My DD just had a virus and is now a happy 2 year old. She has 3 older brothers, and whether they brought it home to her, she got it at the grocery store, or an extended family member carried the virus, I will never know. I personally, just feel that taking your child to a doctor's office with a ton of sick children in the waiting room, can't be too much better than Disney.

pentameric antibodies are a part of the immune system made up of larger molecules that do not pass the placental barrier. Ye there is a 50% mortality rate for just infants that contract GBS from mom at dlivery which can happen in a small percent of cases (1%) even when mom is given preventative antibiotics. Yes there is a small chance of picking up GBS in a public place, but it is remote chance. I just used it as a example b/c I know that it is one of many bacteria that are target only by pentameric antibodies.

Most of all, I say go and enjoy yourselves. Make the right decision for your family!

I think you are brave to step-up with the unpopular opinion. popcorn::

But I do have one question.... do you think a baby crying every night at 1:00am, 3:00am,:scared: and 5:00am might ruin the vacation of the 4 families staying on your left side, right side, above and below you in the resort?

It does bring up a good question... at what age does the baby start to sleep through the night?

If you're in one room with other kids, how do they get a good nights sleep, with a crying baby?

As a Mom of three that has gone in September the past 12 years, I agree with the "No" vote. It can be brutally hot and humid. I can't imagine taking a baby that small in that heat.
My daughter was hospitalized with RSV for a week at four months old. She never went to day care or anywhere without me. We will never know where she got the virus or what we could have done to prevented it. After that week, which was easily the worst of my life, I look at taking small infants around large groups of people in a totally different way.:sad1: You can never be too cautious with small infants.

Good luck with our decision!

We go to WDW every September. So our youngest DD has been at 11 weeks, 15 months, and on our next trip will be 26 months. At nearly 3 months, we had a great time and did our trip the same as any other year. But then again I was feeling fine right after birth as well. Heck, we had shopping to do the day we were released from the hospital (she was 2 days old) to pick up odds and ends. LOL

Yes, I'm sure it must have been hot that year but she was never uncomfy and had a great time like the rest of us. She was also sleeping through the night. It's actually now that she wakes up most nights from 3:00 am to 5:00 am! :scared1: LOL

Of course, whether to go or not depends on the individual Mom and baby. But for us, it has always been the right decision...for others maybe not. Our Ped didn't have any reasons for us to not go either. Both of our trips were great!

What are your thoughts on taking a one month old to WDW in September?

Anybody ever do this?

Am I crazy?

I would like some thoughts on this before I go any further with this.

Well since you asked. Yes, you are crazy. :hippie: Do you really want to spend the time, $$, and effort to take someone to a place and not have them even remember it? However, it's your money, time and energy, so it's your choice if you want to waste it.

Well hydration and temperature regulation are huge huge issues in September even for an adult. For a one month old, it's going to be that much worse. And unfortunately, heat related problems are not all that easy to detect in a baby and by the time you detect them, your one month old may be in some serious trouble. It's your decision, but I would suggest you wait. Disney isn't going anywhere.
