Am I Crazy???

My trips to WDW are just me and DS13 (who has Down Syndrome and is as Disney crazy as his mom!) Last trip was a short 4-day in April. Don't plan to go again until Sept. 2007, because we have a family cruise scheduled for Oct. 2006, don't want to go except in low crowds, and probably can't get away with pulling him out of school in Oct. then again in Jan/Feb. But the last few weeks I've really been wishing I had a trip on the horizon.

Then today I learned that my high school marching band is going to be in the MK Parade on New Years Eve. Even though my 25th HS Reunion is approaching, I still like watching the school's current band.

Now here's the really crazy part - I'm thinking about a short solo trip over New Years. DS would kill me - but I don't think I can deal with him and the crowds. He uses a wheelchair in the parks and only manages short days, and isn't wild about the parades, which would be a can't miss for me. I figure with just me I can wiggle about the crowds - but it would be much more exhausting with him in tow.

Am I nuts to even think about going?? If I do, is there ANY chance of any discounts?

I don't see anything wrong with doing a solo trip. The crowds during that time are going to be really really crowded. And if one of the main reasons you sre going is to see the parades and he does not like the parades I see nothing wromg with it. As for discounts it is usually a wait and see kind of thing. Keep checking the disney websight for promotional things they may have something you never know. Also check mousesavers.com they usually keep up with all the discounts that are out there.

LisaBi, you dear lady. I have two fantastic neighbors with Downs and so I know a bit about how hard and how rewarding it can be to take care of them full time. Any child is a full time job.

I think you deserve a trip. How can your ds miss you if you never go away? :)

I hope it all works out for you and you get to see some of the people you went to school with as well since the parents of the band kids would be about your age. :cheer2:

And it's getting crazier - now thinking of taking my other DS(16) - the one who doesn't like Disney. He thinks he would like exploring World Showcase, and I know he'd like eating there (if he goes, I'll spring for the dining plan). He also said he'd like to see Illuminations on New Years Eve. Just HOW crowded is Epcot on New Year's Eve?

He's not real good with big crowds - I'm telling him that we'll be waiting 2 hours to ride rides while waiting for a FP time on another ride.

Still thinking I'd maybe like to go solo, but then thinking I would be sad not to have anyone to share the oohs and ahhs with. The DS who I usually take doesn't like fireworks either, so I haven't seen the MK fireworks in a while.

But oh, I could have so much fun shopping!!

Decisions, decisions!!!

Maybe you could check with one of your High school friends since the band is going to be there maybe you could share Disney with an old friend. Either way you should go and have a great time.:thumbsup2

OK - I just booked it. Dec. 30 thru Jan. 3 (had to be short - have a wedding I have to attend on Dec. 29, and DS has to be back in school on Jan. 4. Now, hoping for a good airfare special!

But I'm still concerned I'm nuts! Just how crowded is it going to be? We'll proably get into MCO about 4:30 on Sat. Dec 30. Thinking LeCelliar for dinner at 8:00. Then we'll have all day on Dec. 31, Jan. 1, and Jan. 2.

I don't know..........
