OK, Let me start by giving a little background information...I am 25 years old and I have been married for just over a year now. When I was growing up my family took numerous trips to Disney World...we had a family reunion there every year, so at a young age I fell in love with Disney World and anything Disney really! After a family tragedy I was unable to go to Disney for several years, and so when I got married last year all I wanted to do for my honeymoon is go to Disney World...so we went and had a WONDERFUL time. It reminded me of how much I love Disney!

Now for the past year I have been dying to go back, and this December I will finally be finishing my degree, so my husband said that I should tell him where I want to go to celebrate my accomplishment (as well as our 2nd wedding anniversary). Well, all of my friends and family are saying I should go to Europe or Hawaii, but for some reason Disney sounds better than all of that to me!!! I can't make anyone understand...if anything they are making me feel terrible for not wanting to branch out more. They all think I am way to Disney obsessed! :sad1:

Does this happen to anyone else? Am I crazy? Should I try not go to Dsieny again and try something new? :confused3

I think we all hear that from time to time.

Go where you will have fun and be happy.

If you feel you must go elsewhere -- remember Disney Paris ;)

Congrats and have fun!!!

Congrats on finishing your degree and seriously ... go to disney! I'm all for international travel but there's a lot to be said for a trip to Mickey's home. If your degree is beating you up like mine is me then you'll need a place to get to fast and relax! No long international flights, custom lines, trying to communicate in another language, finding hotels in strange cities, sorting out what to see and how to see it ... just a short flight, one of 21 hotels (AKL! AKL!), and disney transportation to whisk (er, in a slow sort of wisking) you away to whichever park grabs your fancy. Fantastic food (just plan ahead and get ADRs!) and an overall wonderful, contained place to relax and celebrate graduation. If you really need to get out of the country book a land/sea trip with one of the Disney cruise lines. There's nothing to beat Castaway Key unless it's the midnight buffet! :)

Don't worry, you're not crazy. Or, if you are, I am too. :)

ETA - already said this but want to re-emphasize - this trip is about RELAXING and CELEBRATING. Disney's perfect for that. Personally a trip to Europe or Hawaii would be seriously stressful for me. Too many unknowns, too much planning, too much to look up and figure out. There's times I'm all about the adventure but right after graduation just wouldn't be it for me. I'd want someplace that feels like home so I know where to go and what to do and won't stress if I miss something because it's my ONLY time to be there. Europe will still be an option in another couple years. Do what you want for your graduation. :)

Okay, so let me get this strait. You are asking people who are Disney obsessed, if you should go to Disney World. My suggestion to really blow your family away. Tell them that you want to go to Japan and Hong Kong. Just don't add the part that while you are there you will be going to the Disney Parks that are there. Now as to whether you are crazy. I haven't had time to do a full analysis, but I would say it is a pretty good bet. I mean, lets face it. You are admittedly obsessed by a mouse.

Do what makes you happy, I hate when somone ask what you want to do then if it's not what they believe you should do then it's a bad idea.

I am so glad I posted this here. I am enjoying everyone's different opinions! It is nice to find those who share my craziness! It is also nice to get some great ideas for future vacations (i.e. Disney Paris, Honk Kong Disney land)! Crazy or not this year the best thing for me is Disney and thank to you for helping to see that and reminding me to follow my own heart.

I was 40 years old when I started college.

WDW kept me going. I was working full time and going to college - sometimes had a full schedule. the school breaks went to WDW. If not would probably end up insane.

so definitely go. forget the others. my boss kepts saying I should go other places (my family know different). So sometimes I do - guess what they can't compare to WDW.

so until I can spend more time traveling (when I retire) it is WDW.

i am in the same boat as you! it seems like everyone rags on me about disney too. i hear: "why don't you travel to other places" or "you know, you could vacation somewhere different" & my favorite: "why would you want to spend all of that money going to disney world all of the time?!?"
seems like that what's why disney lovers tend to find sanity on disboards & other disney sites: we know that we are not alone in our madness! :grouphug:
CONGRATS on finishing school & enjoy your vacation! it is your life! you do what makes you happy! :cheer2:

:lovestruc
I am guessing every one on these boards go through this situation.
Shoot- I got married at the World, there's NO where else I'd rather be! So I definitely understand.

Some day, maybe I'll hit up all those other places, but for now- I'm trying hit up all the places I haven't finished at the ONE place that makes 'everything all better', where magic lives, where my husband and I can go and feel 5 again....

It's magic.....

Some people just don't get it, but at least you can talk to people that do!

Definitely crazy. Definitely. Yeah. Crazy. Definitely.

But it is your celebration. Also for another future idea is a Adventure by Disney trip. Or maybe do a Disney cruise and park package. In the end, though if you want Disney, go Disney.

Add up the cost of a vacation to Europe, air fare isn't cheap.

Take that amount and buy DVC points. You will have locked in today's vacation price for a villa for decades to come.

A friend is looking at a trip to Europe costing $9000. She is also looking at putting that money into DVC instead. I think the DVC purchase is in her future.

Do what makes you happy if that is Disney then go, the heck with everyone else this is your accomplishment trip, you can go those other places some other time. I put it like this if I am paying for it we are going where I want to go and who every doesn't like it can deal with it, I just got married at WDW and everyone said I shouldn't that it was crazy it was PERFECT always do what makes you happy you only live once

Did someone say WDW? Oh, I really don't think a WDW vacation is all that much more expensive than anywhere else. For instance, I went on a cruise in 06 to the Carribbean for the same price I paid for my 7 nights at WDW last August. I only took myself and one other on the cruise. . .4 of us went to Disney in August and we booked 2 rooms and didn't do the dining plan. I am talking total spent for the week on both vacations. So when someone says to me that WDW is an expensive vacation I always ask if they have priced out other vacations including meals, shopping and entertainment. They may find that WDW is a great bargain. . .

Follow your heart. If you want to go to Disney, then I think you should do it. You may go elsewhere and regret it. Life is short, live for today!

Okay, we're obviously all biased here, but I agree that WDW is a great way to celebrate! We honeymooned there in 2003, and had an incredible time at the Polynesian - lots of people thought we were nuts for wanting to go to "a theme park" instead of "lying on a beach somewhere". Some people just don't get it, and that's just how it goes, it seems.

Since then, we went to Germany and Austria with 10 family members, since my aunt and uncle go there each year in December. They know about touring, driving, dining, shopping in Bavaria, so it was expensive, but a no-brainer and an INCREDIBLE time. I'd love to go back, but I can't really imagine doing so without their guidance and expertise.

Have a great time and don't feel weird about your decision - it took me till college to accept the fact that I was different from the "average bear" (as I like to say), and I've embraced it ever since. My WDW obsession is part of what makes me uniquely who I am, and what makes you who you are! You've worked hard and you deserve a great time in a place you love!!

I too say follow your heart. If Disney is where the magic is for you then I say go for it, this should be your time to celebrate. My family and friends do not understand why I go to DW so much but it truly is MAGIC! I go on other vacations but Disney is where my heart is and where I go many times during the year and always will. Other places, I go once and I have no desire to go again but Disney will never grow old to me.:thumbsup2

Have they not heard of world showcase

I dont feel bad about going to disney, we do want to travel to other places and we go to other destinations when we really want to. For my honeymoon i really wanted disney and thats where we went. I graduate from my nursing program guess where I am going.....to me it is like home and I am sooo happy there. Why wouldnt I want to return

Reading through this reminds me of why I love the Dis Boards so much! In the past I was almost emabarrassed of my undying love for WDW!!! I come here and I "fit". Like others have said, this is your accomplishment! Follow your heart and go where you are happiest! I have shared many a memorable moment with Mickey!;)

First, congratulations on getting your degree. And no you are NOT crazy. Your husband told you to decide where you want to go to celebrate and I can't think of any place better than Disney. We went to Disney to celebrate my 50th birthday and my successful breast cancer surgery. When my DH asked if I wanted to go somewhere new for our 25th anniversary--a cruise, California, Vegas (which we've gone to numerous times), New York (I've never been, but he has) or anywhere else I might have a desire to go. I told him I wanted to go nowhere but Disney. I secretly saw his eyes light up because he is my "big kid" and he always will be. Disney is the best place on the face of the earth to celebrate any event!
