Am I crazy making the assumption that annual passes will come back?

We recently bought into DVC direct riviera. The plan is to get an annual pass every 3 years (and make Disney World trips ~3x per year during those years that we have an annual pass). The years in between we will do aulani, beach, cali, etc. When I realized I needed more points in order to schedule the 3 trips during our “annual pass years”, we also decided to add on resale and we’re in ROFR now. Then I started to think…is this kind of crazy making another big purchase on the assumption that annual passes will come back? Because if it weren’t for annual passes, I would not plan multiple trips to Disney within 1 year (except for this next year bc we have 2 planned with each sets of grandparents). I’ve read so many of the blogs and speculation on when/if annual passes will return, but is everyone else like me pretty much assuming that they will come back in some shape or form at some point?

It may be wishful thinking, but I do think that annual passes will be back. That is what fits into my plans as well and that is the assumption that I am going with!

Lot of good discussion in that post about this issue.

Why does the ca suit even matter since they are selling aps for Disneyland?
They are selling APs for WDW too.

Most likely its a governmental issue where due to getting certain tax subs etc they HAVE to offer some sort of AP for local residents.

In general, I wonder if people are seeing this lawsuit as positive for the long term since it will force Disney to restructure their system (maybe unfortunate short term since it may be one of the main reasons that APs haven’t returned). Or maybe Disney will just add wording like they did with Genie plus…
“depending on availability, you may actually only get 2-3 days out of the year with this pass” 😆
Or it might be that Disneylands APs suffer from problems that Disney worlds APs do not…so for us, it won’t really change much🤷‍♀️

I've been struggling with whether to renew mine or not. It expires in Sept. and I have one more trip before then. I have a year and half before I start drawing SS so in between now and then I'll be living on savings. I've planned for this and am in good shape but 3 or 4 trips a year to WDW does not factor into my plans so I wasn't going to renew for next year then possibly get a new one the year after that. Now I'm sort of between a rock and a hard place. I can afford to renew with no problems but only have one trip planned for the next year, which doesn't justify the cost of the renewal. On the other hand, the year after that I fully plan on going at least twice if not three times so an AP would make sense. If they still aren't selling them and only renewing at that point, I'm up the creek. So, I have to decide if I want to roll the dice and take my chances or go ahead and renew on the off chance they still aren't selling them. Boy, they sure don't make it easy. I have the most expensive one right now as I'm out of state and not DVC.

Just renewed my Pirate Pass, was not happy when I showed up last September and they said my Florida Resident Silver pass was now a Pirate pass and showed me the blackout dates. Looked it over later pretty good and it's not as bad as I thought. Pretty certain they will start all passes again as soon as they are able to get back to somewhat normal. I don't think they would be renewing our passes and not intending to do the same for all others. Hope so anyways. I would have a hard time buying DVC right now not knowing if we could not get our annual passes.

3 trips to wdw in one year might be too many. We buy annual passes ( not renewal) and go late June the 1st time and then early June the next year to get to trips in on one annual pass.

Not sure why the CA Lawsuit affected FL. It seems disney is having a hard time distinguishing CA from FL. Same company but very different. CA has much more locals while FL is much larger with way more tourists. APs need to return there otherwise what is the benefit of direct DVC purchase? A very expensive dvc beach towel?
