Am I crazy for loving SSR?

We love SSR!! My best weeks at WDW are when I can spend a few days at and BWV and then on to SSR. I love everything about the resort. I love to walk the grounds and then on to DTD before it gets too hot. It is so peaceful and beautiful. I don't care where I stay, really, my favorite is Congress Park or Grandstand but my last visit was in Carosel and it was lovely. I love the location, a stroll in the evening to the Marketplace is just wonderful.
You are not crazy!

Hi There -

Tried to book a 1-bedroom today at OKW for early December, and was SHOCKED that NOTHING was available there! I've stayed at OKW numerous times, so am used to the "spread out" feeling - matter of fact, I prefer the Turtle Pond area there over the Peninsular Road area.

The ONLY 1-bedroom available for all my nights was at Saratoga Springs, so I'm here on the Saratago thread, looking for some help. :) I've only ridden by there by boat enroute to DTD, and only been on property there once, to eat dinner at the Turf Club - which was EXCELLENT by the way!

Anyway - even though there were Downtown Disney views available, I asked for "close to the main area" - that would be Springs, I would guess? Is it true that Springs is the last bus stop? Since it appears it will be VERY busy - would you think we would have to stand on most buses? If it's the last going to the parks - is it the first coming back? I also did nto choose the DTD view because I figure we won't be home much to really enjoy it - doing Osborne Lights, MVMCP, and Candlelight Processional at least 3 of the 6 nights there, and will be "resort hopping" to see the Xmas decorations at least another night. I also requested top floor because I'm a light sleeper, and don't want anybody trouncing over my head - been there, done that - especially in OKW under a Grand Villa with the hardwood floors - NOT fun! LOL. Anyway - will "main area" still be fairly quiet? Any and all help/tips/advice you could give me I would DEFINITELY appreciate!

I am usually a lurker here, but have found everybody to be friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Oh - another question - LOL - do they still have a "model" set up at SSR? What is it now - is it still AKL, or is it maybe now BLT or THV?

Thanx in advance!!

Yes, this morning it was standing room only by the time we got to the Springs. We always request the Grandstand area because we love it so. It has a great pool with water spout play area and a pool bar with a drink refill stand. It is also only a 2-3 minute walk to the main area. Grandstands has the first bus stop pick up and the first bus drop off, so we always have a seat.

Tom and Robin and Momx2 -

Thanx so much for the the gereat advice on the Granstand area - the more I hear and read the more I think I will call and request that area vs. The Springs, especially since it seems it will be busy then.

Mom - Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Tom/Rboin - Thanx so much too for the thermostate bypass directions, and the "good news" on the new sofa beds there! :)

Enjoying reading so many happy owners there too - was a bit hesitant about having to stay at SSR, but am getting more and mre excited about it! :)

We also love SSR, the homey feel along with the short walk over to downtown disney makes it a pleasure to stay at. Everyone there are so wonderful and treat you like you belong there also own at AK but love SSR best

...Also - forgot to ask in other posts - are the sofa beds in the living rooms in the 1-BR's there the new "memory foam" ones where the cushions stay on, like vWL or BWV? I slept on one of the old "bar in the back" ones at OKW this past Jan., and actually didn't find it to be all that bad, but since I'm gving the master BR to my friends (who have agreed to share the king size bed), I'd like to hope for the "newer" sleeper sofa. :)

The sleeper sofa at SSR is the memory foam type on a platform. The cushions come off the bed. These are similar to the newer ones at OKW.

"Am I crazy for loving SSR?"

The fact that this question is asked tells you where SSR ranks with other DVC resorts

After OKW, SSR is our second favorite resort. It's a great resort and we love the furnishings in those rooms. We're heading back this July.

You left off "with some members". Lots of members love SSR.

If there is a more polarizing DVC property than SSR I'm not aware of it.

That's why they make Fords and Chevrolets and Nissans, 'cause not everybody likes the same thing. Fortunately, I don't see many of the type of posts I saw when SSR first opened - you know, those that said, "I'm glad you like SSR. But you're an idiot, and if you were as enlightened as I and thousands of other DVC members are, and had the same exquisite tastes as I do, you'd admit you're an idiot." ;)

With one exception, I like every DVC property about the same. But I'd stay in my least favorite DVC spot in a heartbeat.
