Am I being a snot?????

as my kids say, staying in a regular room is feels more like "renting magic", staying in a DVC room is living it.
we enjoy the non-DVC resorts, but have found that nothing (even concierge) compares to a villa for us. (then again, we find maid service a bit annoying ~ we don't make that big of a mess, & have no prob folding up the couch & pulling sheets up on the bed).
we don't vacuum (never needed to), throw towels in the wash in the AM then into the dryer upon return from the parks, keep the fridge stocked with cold drinks, snacks, & luncheon fixings.........
& the jacuzzi, HUGE bathroom, putting your feet up while watching TV & not kicking someone, being able to take ALL your clothes out of suitcases (& even put the luggage out of sight :) ), having coffee/breakfast or a late-night snack in your PJ's........
geez, i think we've become "DVC snobs" :p

Personally I would go with a regular room and rent a fridge. Having a full kitchen next to me on vacation depresses me just thinking about it. Bring me a maid to fix my bed, give me clean towels, and vacuum my room daily and I'm a happy camper. I love my home but the last thing I want while on vacation is a "home away from home". I want a vacation AWAY from home! :D

I'll have to agree here! :)

I love those DVC units. They never make me feel like I'm in someone's house. We put everything away in drawers where you can't see it so there's no depressing clutter. It takes two seconds to pull up the cover on the bed or put a dirty glass in the dishwasher. The towels go in with the laundry, and it is so much better than having to rely on housekeeping to bring you towels. They never bring enough, or when you want them, plus you never know how they were handled on their utility cart and therefore are never sure how clean they are. I cannot state strongly enough that having the washer/dryer on a long vacation is the best!!!

Cheers :)

P.S. I'm sure mousekeepers don't do this, but regular hotel maids don't always vacuum, and when they make the bed they throw the covers and sometimes pillows on the sometimes filthy floor. Some really cheap places even rehang the dirty towels off your floor. So I feel great having a "home away from home" and don't necessarily want to be reminded that I'm in a hotel :)

I guess I'm a snot!;)

We're just a couple of days away from being at OKW. One of the factors in deciding whether to rent points or reserve through WDW was the maid service. We're getting a nice rate through CRO and without even including the extra charge for maid service we'd pay if we rented, it was less expensive to reserve through CRO.

I want maid service! I've never experienced any inconvenience due to the maids coming to the room. We've always just left and when we came back the room was done! Other than a time or two on our last trip when the maid would stop by in the afternoon to check and make sure we were satisfied with the maid service, I never saw her.

I have read a post or two about the maids at OKW knocking on the door on departure day wanting to know when we were leaving. I've never had them do that at any other resort and I won't like it if they do it this time. I think that's rude and I won't hesitate to say so.

Other than that, I love the idea of staying in a 2 br villa. I love to cook (probably because I don't cook much at home) so the kitchen is fine with me. They can put a padlock on the washer and dryer though...I don't do laundry on vacation. It's funny how one person's drudgery is another persons fun, huh?

I do understand the not wanting to feel like your at home though. It's one of the reasons we decided not to become DVC members. We'll just come and visit from time to time! We want to be the guest, not the "homeowner".;)

maid service maid service maid service maid service!!!!! Clean towels clean towels clean towels clean towels!!!! I'm not a snot I'm not a snot I'm not a snot I'm not a snot!!!!!

As a DVC member, I don't miss the maid service. At first, I was a little worried, but I'm not now. It really does only take 30 seconds to straighten the bed, and I actually prefer to wash the towels myself. Whatever they use in those commercial washers make the towels SO SCRATCHY!! I can use fabric softner when I wash them and then they're better for me. Since we travel with two small children, REGARDLESS of maid service, my room looks like a tornado went through it as soon as we return. We usually take an afternoon nap, so the beds get messy almost immediately upon return. I LOVE the extra space, and the kitchen is a big PLUS. I did read something interesting on this thread. There is a STOVE in the DVC units, I NEVER saw one!!! I only saw the refrigerator. You can ACTUALLY cook in these units??? :p :p :p :p I also want you to know this is coming from a resort snob, and I usually like to stay at the best places when we travel, and to me that's a DVC resort at WDW.

This thread is Really funny!

I have to agree with Terry S.

After staying in 2BR units and the Grand Villa, my kids don't understand hotel rooms. We spent the 1st night of our vacation in Nov at POR and the kids were asking "Where is the rest of the rooms?" I thought my kids were the SNOTS for not wanting to stay in a hotel room. We are considering staying at Universal before our next DVC stay in Jan. and I know the kids will have the same question.

We love the villas! THe kitchen doesn't bother me because we don't use it for meals. We do use it for drinks, snacks, quick breakfast, left-overs, etc. We also love putting the kids to bed and still having space to hang out. This work great when the twins were younger and needed naps.

The maid service hasn't bothered me because it always seemed like a pain to go through the room and put away everyones stuff away so the maid could get through the room!

I think it depends on the size of your family also. I single hotel room is really tight for a family of 5.

As ducklite said, "the ability to invite friends to visit and have a living room area as oppsed to sitting on beds..."

!?!?!?did you get hotel permission to have guests over? as an OWNER I don't want to have to finance someone esles vacation. They may have had a drink of water or used a hand towel! who do you think pays for all of the extra wear & tear that these "guests" put on a couch!?!?!? I'm appalled! Such hypocricy!

I'm not a snot I'm not a snot I'm not a snot I'm not a snot!!!!!

I've always found it to be much more convincing if I stomp my little feet while I'm saying that!;)

tee hee......:p :bounce: ;)

I previously said that I prefer a hotel room when I'm away at a resort destination, and I still feel that way, BUT I only have 1 young DD right now, so it's convenient. As other posters stated how nice it is to have extra rooms with older kids and/or a larger family, I can definitely understand that now and it makes sense. If I had older kids, I'm sure that I would want some privacy at times, and so would they! Point well made. :D

I used to feel this way too until I became a DVC member and I have never looked back. We like not having to worry when the maid is coming, we tidy up after ourselves, not a big deal. We make waffles or bagels in the toaster in the morning. It's nice having a microwave to heat up leftovers. We buy orange juice, pop (soda), ice cream bars and put in the fridge. We freeze our water bottles overnight so they are cold all day plus you have ice right there. We throw our towels in the wash before we leave and put them in the dryer when we come back (1 bedroom). Same with the dishes in the dishwasher.

Last time the maid showed up at 8:30 for trash & towel, we hadn't even showered yet! Reminded me why I prefer not to have housekeeping daily.

Regarding the oven - after 7 DVC trips we finally had the opportunity to use it on our last trip. We wanted to heat up some pizza. Never used a digital oven before! Luckily they had a card with directions. Felt so stupid, needing directions for the oven! LOL! :D

I always said I could live in an OKW 1 bedroom! Bigger than most apartments or small ranch houses!

The daily charge for maid service for the DVC resorts is $25 for a studio, $30 for a one bedroom, $40 for a 2 bedroom. I can't remember the charge for the GV, but I think it's $50, but don't hold me to it. Just call housekeeping upon arrival to your room, to set up cleanings. You can do an few or many as you want.

I apologize for my ignorance, but can someone explain this to me? I am renting points at the BWI, studio. Does this mean I will not get maid service everyday? I've never heard of this....it is all new to me. We usually stay at the Swan or Dolphin.

Don't worry about a thing! There are two possibilities

(1) You will love it! (I'm betting on this one.)
(2) You don't like it. In this case, hundreds of rabid BWV owners will be fighting over your resale. (You should see the excitement on the DVC board when BWV points become available.)

We have 3 kids so when they all travel with us we get two rooms for the privacy. They can also bring a friend if just one kid comes with us. We just like the looks and feel of a hotel room. I love just having the beds in there and a bathroom. At the Poly we also get the little table, chairs, and daybed. Since we mostly just travel as a threesome we have more then enough drawer space and closet space for everyone. I'mn a stickler for neatness so I hang all of our clothes on hangers before we even leave for the trip. Once in the room I hang them up immediately in the closet. Everyone is different. My son will not go to the hotel at the ocean with us as he loves the townhouse. He loves access to constant munchies, 4 TVs, room to store his stunt kites, etc. I, on the other hand, love my hotel room! LOL! So I leave him home on that trip!

No, if you are renting points you will not get housekeeping ona daily basis.

On your 4th day you will get trash & towels. They will come in, take out the trash, give you fresh towels and soap/shapoo.

On the 7th day you will get full housekeeping.

If you want/need extra towels in the meantime you will need to either bring them from home or pay extra for them. Same for sheets and any housekeeping services.

Anne

CRSNDSNY - if you rent points from a DVC member, you will not receive daily housekeeping service. You can choose to pay for it, at the rates I have posted above. Otherwise, you'll receive the services as outlined in ducklite's post above. As you can see, housekeeping is VERY expensive and DVC members voted to have these type of services (trash and towel and only one full clean per week) to keep our dues down. Also, it makes it feel like more of a "home", no one trapsing in and out of your room.

Instead of having to get two rooms for my family at a deluxe (which I wanted) I went with the 2 BR BWV. I am a cash paying guest and looking forward to having the best of both. I really want housekeeping on vacation. I got a nice deal with the FTP.

As someone who practically lives in hotel rooms while on business trips, its so nice to go to the BWV and experience total luxury. No only are the rooms much nicer than standard disney rooms but the washer and dryer means I can pack light which means less hassle at the airport. I don't cook but I love the living room and the extra TV as hubby and I have different tastes in programming. Not many disney hotel rooms have a large jacuzzi tub and double vanities with a separate walk in shower. I pay for maid service in a two bedroom or grand villa because you can never predict how messy a guest is, and I'm a neat freak. I also love the valet parking, just call ahead and your car is ready. You coulld order room service or experience over 30 different restaurants right outside your door not to mention a great dueling piano bar(Jellyrolls). I personally would never stay anywhere else because I'm spoiled totally. I can't imagine anyone feeling like they are deprived here unless you are used to staying in Suites at the deluxe hotels..then you might experence a baby grand piano.or something equally ostentatious.LOL Joan

Buying into DVC would not be a possibility at the moment for our family of 5. We are p.ap holders and although we have stayed at offsite villas, and loved the convenience of our own washer dryers, privacy, etc. We stayed at POR recently and felt that the convenience and the wonderful pool made up for this.:Pinkbounc
I had bad experiences at POR laundry rooms, clothes not dried etc.....Considering we stay at least 10 days it is hard to keep up with laundry.

PS how much does it cost to get mousekeeping/disney to do your laundry ?????
