Just booked next year's Poly trip

We have our first trip to the Poly in January!!! Woo Hoo!!! Anyway I was wondering if someone could give me advice about asking for an upgrade upon check in. I have never done that I would like to get a few tips. We are booked in a garden room. Do I ask for an upgrade or a free upgrade? Should I not check in online or does that not matter.

If you want an upgrade I'd recommend going ahead and making the necessary changes in your ressie now. To ask for a free upgrade puts CMs (and guests!) in a tough spot.

Does the Poly have a hot tub(s)?

They don't have a hot tub per se, but the pool does have a cool jetted area in one of the corners. The water comes out the same temp as the actual pool water. Not the same but it does feel good on your back.

I wouldn't ask for an upgrade anywhere either, although others do. It would make me feel uncomfortable. It seems so presumptuous to me - and we were upgraded twice on our Christmas trip last year at the Beach Club and Beach Club Villas (from a studio to a 2 bedroom no less) -- but I never asked.

I had a very candid conversation with a Poly CL CM on our last trip and the abilities to give upgrades are not as common as some people think. A random CM cannot always just go ahead and reassign a room. Most upgrades are decided prior to arrival.

I have stayed GV three times now and have always been more than pleased with our view and location. To be honest, if I could guarantee a room in my favorite longhouse FIGI, on the third floor I would book GV everytime.

I recently read a review on another board about a family that got reassigned from their GV room location multiple times because they did not like their location or various other benign complaints and then someone finally upgraded them to LVCL Then they proceeded to complain about the aspects of their stay...the food offerings, the Mousekeeping and lack of towel animals There was also mention of rude CMs. They mentioned they would never stay at the Poly again. Thank goodness!

While I have encountered a flat CM or two at the Poly the majority of them are fabulous and I am sure they would want to spread Pixidust to everyone if they could. I would have to say the bottom line is the same as the previous posters...book what you want in advance so you will not be disappointed.

Yes, my ticker is incorrect and I don't know how to change it! It is actually off by one day! It is really one week and two days making it nine whole days till our vacation!

Just think, the CM and other guests had to put up with these folks for a whole week. The cronic complainers have to live with themselves every day. They must have a very joyious life....NOT!!!! They obviuosly never learned the joy of making lemonade from lemons

Or they're the type of scammers who always look to be the "damaged" party in the hopes of being "compensated." Though I don't know how much more compensated you can be than LVCL, unless they were hoping to get comped something, like their next stay.

I totally agree. Good thing I'm a lawyer - people assume I'm going to be a jerk and are pleasantly surprised when I'm not.

I have been taking care of a very sick Breezy all day today. Poor little thing is miserable with fever. So we are watching our Disney trip videos while resting on the couch! I hope she wakes up much better tomorrow!

We have now stayed at the Poly three times. The first few times were were just so disppointed and it was mostly due to CM experiences. OUR bad luck I'm certain. BUT I kept trying. The Poly's ambiance is phenominal and I was bound and determined to try and try again. THIS time, was WONDERFUL! Sadly it was short becuase we left from a few nights there to go on a cruise. The resort CMs were wonderful. I did ask about availability of any upgrades from a GV upon check in. The CM called to ask but was told no. I'm sure there were higher level rooms available becuase the resort was NOT full by any stretch. But that was okay. I asked anyway and she was super nice and so was I. We got to our room and HOLY BUCKETS! I'm GLAD I didn't get an upgrade because 3226 in the Aotearoa longhouse was just WONDERFUL!!!!!! Saw the fireworks, lagoon, GF and castle perfectly from our room. Didn't it used to be that if you had even a smidgen view of any of teh above, you paid for it? Well this is listed asa a GV and it was heaven!

I don't think I'll ever make a request again because how would I ever have known to request something like this? I'm just going to let cards fall where they may and i'd recommend that to anyone. You can usually get a room change if they aren't busy and you find you don't like it. We have before.
SO! Just wanted to give that glowing review of that room an our recent stay. I'll post a few pix if anyone wants.

ppony - if you saw all that from your room, I think you did get an upgrade. I don't recall hearing of any GV rooms in Aotearoa that had a view like that, but I could be wrong. That totally sounds like a LV or TPV room to me.
