The pool like Aulani's would be great, but they are so cramped for space right there, I have no idea how they would do it unless they leveled Samoa as well and reduced the width of the new GCH. They don't have any space to move outward in either direction, I think all they can do is go up and make it a high rise there.

*SIGH* I understand change has to come, but seriously, this makes me sad. I'm sure when it's all said and done it will be beautiful, (and $800 a night for a lagoon view peak season.) But no Poly, and no 'Ohana or Lapu Lapu's for a year while they are building is going to push me to stay on site at Universal.

Universals not a bad thing. The hard rock is my second favorite resortt in Orlando after the poly, and I have stayed at 5 disney deluxes. You should give it a try.

Part of me was kind of thinking the same thing. If it was big, you'd think all of the CMs (or some of them anyway) would have a little info . I wish something would come out to give some idea as to what may (or may not) be happening to the Poly....the rumors of it being demolished and rebuilt is making me very sad .

No news is good news right? The longer there is no announcement, the longer the Poly gets to stay as is.

have you checked the Stars and Stripes length of stay tickets? We were in a similar situation last June. I worked out cheaper for us to buy the 6 tickets, have 3 people each use 2 of those, then buy a Stars & Stripes pass for the 4th person. Unless you're staying longer then 8 days, then I'd probably just buy the Stars tickets for everybody.

I have heard of the Stars and Stripes tickets, and thought they were a thing of the past...where would I get those?

When I was at the resort just over a week ago, I was told by CMs to listen to the announcement coming on Oct. 24th. There was one CM who didn't know of anything but he was a young cabana attendant (although he did know about the GF changes). Another 'old-timer' CM claimed they didn't even know there was current construction at GF (she was a really bad liar - she worked at GF too.)

Of course, no one knows what the big announcement is going to be, but if it includes, as some have suspected, a complete overhaul of the entire resort to make room for a DVC, which will include a complete demolition of the existing guest rooms, there is no doubt in my mind that the new guest rooms will be smaller than the existing. That will truly be a shame, because the room sizes at the Poly are one of the main reasons (other than the Monorail) that we like to stay there. No doubt I'm getting way ahead of anything here, but I hope that what ever they do, they leave the rooms alone.

Ugh, I am going to be SOOOOOOOOO disappointed and upset of they are going to "update" the decor in the hotel!

It was because of an update that my family and I fell in love with the Poly to begin with! We were big Contemporary people until they redid all the rooms and it went from being colorful and fun to dark, cold, and business like ... that's when we moved to Poly and have loved it ever since!

I'll accept ALMOST anything ... just no redesign! Don't screw the Poly like you did with Contemp!!!

Was there ever any actual indication of a big announcement from Disney - other than from CMs and blog speculations? I searched and never saw anything... not to say there isn't going to be one, just seems off that Disney would plan to announce something possibly so big as closing and demolishing one of the original and loved resorts... yet make NO mention if it to anyone except a few CMs - no article, no fanfare, nothing... but I haven't really followed this so maybe I just missed that.


While we were there in September they were doing a lot of work on the suites in Tonga - the 9 days we were there, there was always someone working on them, even at night. Why would they put that money and time into refurbishing something that was going to be demolished in a year or so? Even if it was just furniture (which it wasn't) why buy it now and have to store it? And if they are going to bulldoze the place, why did they waste the time and money refurbishing the quiet pool? I realize it was only to make it shallow but outside a new drain system to comply with safety standards (no idea if thats what they did, its just a hot topic here lately) I don't see why they'd put work into something that didn't absolutely need it just to tear it out in a year. And for that matter why put in the Cabanas? Tearing down the resort would be such a waste and rebuilding Aulani in Florida would be stupid - why go to one over the other (other than to actually go to Hawaii). If I want to go to Aulani, I'll go to Hawaii. If I want to go to Disney, I'll go to the Polynesian.

Would anyone here remodel their house or even a room in their house if they were contemplating tearing down and rebuilding in a year?

I do think the GCH has some issues and that holds truth, not that I really actually know anything about any of this to speculate. But while we were there I did notice the floor swaying on the 2nd level as mentioned here before and Ohana had some leaks in the Ceiling - the CMs had a nice white bucket catching the water and were debating if they should put a plant there so it didn't look so bad lol.

Of course I just really hope they don't rebuild the resort as we loved it as is, so maybe I'm just holding out hope. But yeah....
