ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Hi all, I'm joining in (though I've only managed to plow through the first 25 pages of this thread so far...so much helpful info!).

I changed my October 2011 reservation from WL to the Poly Lagoon View yesterday, and I'm so excited! There's so much I need to learn about this amazing resort. :surfweb:

After reading through a bunch of Poly threads here on the DIS and reading through Tikiman's Web site last night, I think I've settled on my room requests: balcony, Tahiti. Any thoughts on either of those?

Okay, back to Page 26 for, but I just wanted to introduce myself!

I believe this was discussed a few pages back but yes it is open.

Thanks for the info. I am seeing other posts that the walkway remains open, but there has been speculation that it will soon close while construction takes place. Can anyone confirm/deny this? We may cancel our upcoming stay at the Poly if we cannot access the GF via the walkway.

When we checked in with Barbie in Hawaii last night she said they were almost at 100% capacity. We are on the first floor and asked to switch to the third as we prefer balcony to the patio. She told us that tomorrow we can switch, and the day after (Thursday) many more rooms will open up! I guess crowd levels will be lower in the next few days if that is any indication!!

OH my! I sure hope the crowd level drops.. LOL..

Just FYI: A current guest at the Poly just posted that a makeshift walkway from the Poly now only extends to the health club-- not the GF. :headache:

I do not know if this will be the case until construction ends or if the path will eventually be extended.

Hi

Ive got a few questions about the cabanas at the Poly. I read the review on tikimans website about the premium cabana and I think it will be far too big for our family of 4. So, we are looking at the standard one. Does anyone know if you can see the pool from the cabana? We have 2 daughters and would like to watch them in the pool if we dont fancy swimming with them. Also, how booked up do they get - would I need to reserve way in advance? For anyone who has been to the Poly recently, were they in use every day?

Sorry about all the questions

Thanks

:yay:

Yes... you can see the pool but to watch kids... uummm... not sure it is ideal. Here is a pic of our view from the cabana. Keep in mind I am standing up and at the edge of the platform area.

As far as how often they are booked... it depends. Some days you will see both filled and others neither one will be used. If I were you I would reserve one just in case. You don't have to pay for it until you arrive. :thumbsup2

Like I said in another thread this really makes no sense. How are gf guests getting to health club if this is true. They would have to take the monorail to the poly. Either guest was mistaken or he confused the wedding pavilon with the health club.

Maryj11, Hi! :goodvibes We were also thinking about that building to request. I hope you get your request so you can tell me how it was. :thumbsup2 After going to the Tiki site, all of the longhouse views look so beautiful. Have a Magical trip!:goodvibes:)

Thank you , I hope we do too. I will let you know :thumbsup2

Just got back 2 weeks ago and we too requested and stayed in Tokelau ground floor (after much questioning of the DisBoard and TikiMan). We loved it! I think you made an excellent choice and I'm glad you double checked! Have a great time! :goodvibes[/QUO

Thank you ,Im so excited !

Yea I think someone didn't finish the walk or got confused!

Someone on another thread was saying they extended the "walls" down the GF beachfront towards Big Pine but I can't picture in my mind how that would be?? If anyone finds pics please link back to this thread, I'm curious to know what is going on.

Also, can someone link me some pics to the Quiet pool and the cabanas. I'd appreciate it. :thumbsup2

Two months from today we will be checking in to Hawaii longhouse!!!! :cloud9:

Hi Everybody! :wave2:

I needed to see my countdown :o

I am so ready for the trip :car: to see the mouse!

I have alot of pics of both regular cabanas (My signature picasaweb), with views from cabana towards pool. My kids are 11 & 14 and I was able to watch them extremely well, in all areas of the pool. When I originally booked a month before my visit, all cabanas were open (late July) The day I enjoyed my cabana Sunday July 24, the other two( reg & premium) were already booked. I was able to book another day with a reg cabana three days before use-at that time they were all available, the day of the second cabana use (July 27), only the reg cabana was being used, premium was still available.:wizard: It also makes for a good base for kids to return to after swimming without fear of someone moving your towels or taking your table.

Just wondered who all was going to have to travel near the coast with Irene coming through ? Im worried for the people living on the coast :( I hope every one will be alright. They said it is the biggest hurricane that we have had in decades .

Thanks so much princssdisnygina for the great photos - I guess I will book one before we go :yay:

Wow, just had a look at your photos - they are amazing!! Out of the 2 cabanas, which one would you recommend? Does 1 have a better view or more space?

Thanks for your help :)

:welcome: Missyrose!!!! We normally just to the GV rooms and like Samoa and the only other building we have stayed at is Tokelau. We like to be in the center by the main pool, but your view should be fantastic.
