ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Hello Poly lovers, we will be back third Summer in a row. Family majority rules in favor of Tonga Toast, Dole Whips, Volcano Pool, etc. 7/4 to 7/14. First stay in the month of July for us.

As I have said, we will be first timers at the Poly Jan 27 to Feb 1. I will have an ECV due to chronic knee issues. Any recommendations on that? Also, my DS14 will be with me and we are already going to The Spirit luau and have a ressie for Kona Cafe breakfast. Any other "musts" at The Poly?
My son is a teenage boy all the way but he is a Disney fanatic like myself so he would be the type that would be open to about anything there. :thumbsup2

By the way we have GV and I already requested Tokelau (sp?) and 3rd floor.

Did I say I am really excited????

We'll be there the exact same days. Hopw cool. Never stayed at the Poly before so I have no advice, but enjoy!!
Lori

Not sure if this is the place to post this, but

The past few years we have stayed at the Poly and loved it. We wanted to venture out this year, and we really excited to stay at the Contemporary. Minimalist decor, lots of time to chat due to the long walk to the monorail and MK (we stayed in the Garden Wing), awkard sliding doors in the bathroom which do not lock and give minimal privacy, a nice television you can only see from one of the beds. And if you like going to boring work conferences, you will love the non-Disney feeling of this resort!
At CR, I felt like I was staying in a Holiday Inn. The only plus for CR was two sinks in the bathroom, but using the two meant having zero counterspace, so we threw a towel over one of them to hold our toiletries. We did make it to Ohana for dinner one night, and it was so hard to leave the Poly that evening!

The Poly makes us feel like we were on a vacation-within-a-vacation.

Ooo, I am so sorry to hear that your trip wasn't what you hoped it would be! I hope I don't offend any POR transplants, but I will say this to encourage others:

We stayed at POR hoping to save a buck. Esp. since my DH had taken me on a surprise trip to Poly in Feb. alone BTW for my 40th. Anyway, POR was not for us, and half way through the trip, we decided to try to move to Poly. As it turned out, there was a room available, so we went!

If you find your self unhappy with your accomodations, please go to the front desk and see if there's a chance to move somewhere else. This is your vacation. It should be what you want it to be! (within reason of course!)

Anyway, we are venturing out this year as well, and hopefully we will find it more to our liking. My little boy has dreamed of staying there so we are giving him his chance...if only for 3 nights before we head over to the Poly! ;)

Could someone list off some child activities they have at the Poly??? My DDs are excited about the hidden Mickey hunt at WL...does the Poly have similar activities???

Off the top of my head, there are hula lessons, making leis, and the poolside games. I'm sure there are more, but....:confused3.

We've never been short on things to do though!

Also, just checked and page 1 has a fairly recent Activities Sheet posted. Check it out! Tons of stuff for the kiddos :cool1:

Hello! I just had to comment on your post, as we'll be at Poly that very same week! And I'm super excited about a lot of the same things. Its also going to be our first time staying at monorail resort. And...yes...real coffee sure sounds great! :lmao:

Oh, and I've decided that it is going to be warm enough! We've been Pres. Week for the past two years and the first year we were a tad chilly (OK, we were downright cold, but the New Englander in me can't admit it) and the second year, it was in the low 80s and sunny all week. Ah-mazing.

As far as the crowds that week, two words: rope drop! :goodvibes

I'm hoping for 80's:). Yeah. I better plan on rope drop. Gotta get the rest of the crew on board.

Hello everyone.!:flower3:

Well I made my reservations for BLT one bedroom villa. Did all the research. Watched videos posted by YouTube members. Checked out all the amenities. Subscribed to the FAQ for CR and then was accosted by my wife and teens. "WE WANT TO STAY AT THE POLY AGAIN"! If I wanted to live to see another day, I had to make yet another phone call and listen to the "are you sure you want to change your resort" from the WDW Travel.

Here I am again..:rotfl2: we know the resort so well that we could check in, get a bite to eat, and go for a swim while sleeping. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

Here is my long winded subscribe post.

Welcome back! Congrats on switching to the Poly.

Hello all! My family and I are making our first visit to the Poly in June  We are a family of 5 (including 3 teenagers ), staying garden view. Since we are an older family of 5, we would like a longhouse with a good chance of a balcony for extra space, we would also prefer to have the double sinks, and we would like to be closer to the ttc than the pool. After much research on this thread as well as Tikiman's site, I think I should request Tahiti, 2nd or 3rd floor? I realize these are only requests :goodvibes Having never been there I'm not sure this is the best one to request. :confused3 I would appreciate any advice the experts can give me ;) Thanks!

Hello! I as a DisDad of 3 teen monsters find the poly is really a great choice for us. The rooms are large. The theme is magical and the pool is perfect for older kids. Oh and did I mention Captain Cooks 24 hour yummyness? The rooms are large enough for my DD17 DS15 and DD14. Don't stress yourself about the room choice.

When are you going? Maybe we could arrange a dismeet/teen meet:cool1:

Welcome back! Congrats on switching to the Poly.
Thank you verry much! :grouphug:

Disney World, Polynesian, Jiminy Cricket here we come only 13 days left. House hunting is majorly stressing me out. Sure looking forward to this vacation. Kinda nervous, don't want to disappoint my niece and nephew. 12 & 16. Hope they have as much fun as I do.

Welcome back Carl!

We are considering a stay at poly for first time this fall. We have stayed at WL and GF prior. My five year old son saw the poly on monorail and the tiki torches...he has spoken of little else since. Ha!

My question is which longhouse should I request should I be lucky enough to have the request granted! And any to try and avoid....

Our priorities...

Clean, updated room. two sinks a bonus...
Location to monorail and ttc (we come back for naps and will spend 2 days at Epcot, 3 at MK, 1 at HS)

We will not use pool.

we would do garden view based on budget!

Sounds like you want to request Tahiti as your #1 request!! Have fun!!!

Hi Carl! I know what you mean. We stayed at VWL last May and it was nice but I really missed the Poly. I was lucky enough to go again last year in October. This year, I am planning a big family trip so we are staying at a moderate (probably CBR) and then my DH will come for a long weekend but I am thinking of trying a new resort :scared1: We were thinking BWI so we could be near Epcot. Not sure when I'll get back to the Poly, but I always will ;)

All my Poly peeps know how much I love to stay in touch, whether or not I have a Poly trip planned. I'm also thinking we need a photo to remind us of what it is all about -
