ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Things I'm most excited about...

1. Watching Wishes on our 1st night. We didn't see it at all in September and I really missed it!

2. 'Ohana breakfast and dinner. Yum!

3. Grabbing a cup of Kona coffee before we hit the monorail in the mornings.

4. Trying out the Hawaii building for the 1st time.

5. Just hanging out, walking around the resort soaking up the ambiance.

6. Splitting an Adult Grilled Cheese and an Aloha Pork sandwich with DH. Best of both worlds!

Oh, it's getting so close I can hardly stand it! Less than 48 hours til we are on the plane!:banana::banana:

Just to add, if you booked a package you should get a 15% off coupon in your package when you receive your travel documents. There is a 2 hr minimum stay and the $11/child is an hourly rate.

Yeah Ill add that also and change it. I just looked to see the date on my source info and it says 2010.

Awesome list! We are looking forward to many of the same!

Is anyone there now who can ask the CMs about when the pool/slide is closing? I am soooo stressed about this. I've called so many times and they keep telling me no, it's not happening but some of the sites say otherwise. Wondering if anyone can ask for me there at the hotel. I'd soo appreciate it! We have 10 days until we are there! Woo Hoo!!

I had to do a double take when I saw your user name. I have 3 boys and a girl myself and have that same user name on another site (not Disney related) that I belong to. :rotfl:

If nobody else is there now to ask, I'll try to report in when I'm there :goodvibes

Well, I get to do the double digit dance today! Only 99 days until my return to the Poly! :goodvibes

I have to agree with SueM. These POR "transplants" as they are being called, booked a new, highly advertised room category and Disney left them disappointed. They deserve some form of compensation and I feel that an upgrade is the appropriate course of action to resolve the issue.

From my experience, upgrades aren't all that common at the Poly. More often than not we have stayed in the category we have booked, or if we have been upgraded it was during a very slow time of year when the resort was nowhere near capacity. Late Feb through early March is the start of spring break and a very popular travel time for Florida. When we want Club Level, we book it. We have never been upgraded to CL at the Poly. And the only times we have been upgraded to CL at other Disney resorts was in response to a screw up on Disney's part.

If you want a certain category of room, then book it. If you are lucky enough to get an upgrade, be thankful. But being upset because "interlopers" are scooping up the potential for you to upgrade? It's a bit much in my opinion.

Imagine if you were called and told your Garden View Room at the Poly wasn't available and they offered you (and everyone else) Royal Palm Concierge at the Grand Floridian. Chances are you wouldn't turn it down and wouldn't even consider the potential effect your upgrade had on the potential of another guests upgrade.

And the reference about posters "encouraging" others to get the same upgrades? I believe the "leaving a note" reference was rather tongue in cheek as the poster compared it to a fridge swap.

I get the TPV CL is way more expensive than POR Royal Rooms. However, when the room you booked isn't ready when it was supposed to be, you are entitled to compensation, and if Disney deems TPV CL as the appropriate compensation that is up to them.

Just my two cents :confused3

Okay- just getting back on the boards for our upcoming Disney vaca starting on 2/17- what is all this hub bub about the POR going to the Poly? :confused:Did something happen? Deets from a innocent bystander..:rolleyes1

Originally we had put down a request for Tokelau longhouse as I liked the sound of a central location and slightly bigger rooms but I think we're going to drop that request when we check in and just ask for the first available room. Our flight departs very early in the morning and we'll have to be at the airport for something like 4am so we'll all be really tired by the time we get to the Poly around 11:00am. I'm hopeful that by dropping the specific longhouse request they'll be able to get us into a room early and we can rest before heading out to DHS for Fantasmic that night.

Has anyone been able to not only check in early but get access to their room before the official time or am I out to lunch?

Hi!
We've always arrived around 1ish and got into our rooms (we have 2 adjoining) I would be very surprised if they arn't ready...the Poly is always Johnny on the Spot- Tokelau is the BEST!:cloud9:

Great to hear. Thanks!

:thumbsup2 I have pictures & video's in my signatures all around the poly! Luau, cabana, CL, lobby, pool, spa, video of lighting ceremony every evening at 6pm. I even have a video of the torpedo toliet flush at the POLY, dole whip, drinks, neverland club, etc..... Enjoy!:wizard:

The things to which we are looking forward on our vacation at the Poly:

1. Seeing the parks change each year through the eyes of our son, he's been there at 9m (off property), 2yo (BC CL for his BD), 2.5yo at Grand Cali in DL and now 4y at the poly! I don’t know who is more spoiled him or us...Too bad his favorite ride is out of commission (BTMR)…they is always 2013…

2. Wishes from the beach and our room. This one is huge and ties into #5

3. The monorail at our back door (Tahiti), he's a train nut and the monorail fits the bill nicely (riding anything train-like is a bonus). Resting tired feet, rain respite and naps all brought to you by the WDW monorail….

4. Real Kona coffee in the "coffee wasteland" known as WDW

5. Relaxing, it's a funny thing, as busy as we are each day, I still relax more at WDW than anywhere east of Hawai'i

6. Tonga toast and dole whip for the first time, this one has me puzzled, because I seem to be falling for the hype…While they sound decadent I hope I’m not disappointed, I will go in with an open mind (and mouth).

7. We have ADRs “well planned” at all of our favorites and few new ones for times we wanted. A nice mix of character dining for the little man and “fine” dining for the adults with a special Bistro de Paris night for mom and dad (Thanks grand mom)!

8. Going to each park on the day when touring plans says the crowd will be the lowest, I hope it works out!

8. Knowing that we are planning a bounce back and cruise in April 2013 that will take advantage of our newly minted annual passes! We’ve got to go when the crowds are low (or slightly lower) and he is not in school yet...

I know this stuff may sound trite or repetitive, but it's what makes Disney, Disney. We (and I suspect 99% of the people on the boards) love it and keep coming back. For that 1% who don't love it, please don't come to WDW April 21-28th, stay home with your miserable life and let us have our fun :)

*Lapu-Lapu's - Is this the one in a pineapple? If so I also want to know if I can order one of these or if there is a version without alcohol for the young one.

I suspect a virgin Lapu-Lapu is simply called a Pineapple. :)

I rather fancy the idea of one filled up with Dole Whip actually, and then just sitting out on the beach eating it on a warm summer's evening watching Wishes. We always spend at least one evening of our WDW stays having a meal at Kona Cafe, doing a bit of shopping, and then taking a walk around the resort, so maybe I'll try it some time?

Anyway, just popping by to see how our POR Exiles are doing over here. Please play nice with the locals everyone. I hope everyone has a lovely time next month.

As I have said, we will be first timers at the Poly Jan 27 to Feb 1. I will have an ECV due to chronic knee issues. Any recommendations on that? Also, my DS14 will be with me and we are already going to The Spirit luau and have a ressie for Kona Cafe breakfast. Any other "musts" at The Poly?
My son is a teenage boy all the way but he is a Disney fanatic like myself so he would be the type that would be open to about anything there. :thumbsup2

By the way we have GV and I already requested Tokelau (sp?) and 3rd floor.

Did I say I am really excited????

My must do is eating Tonga toast at Capt. Cook's. I actually think it's a fun place to eat. I enjoy a quick visit with the folks at the next table, greeting the CM's who work there, and looking out the window at the pool area.

Tokelay is a great building. You won't be sorry!

Nice to see you Andre! I like your POR exilies! I am glad they are excited about staying at a new place! It's been fun helping them plan. If I can't plan my own, I want to help others with theirs!

As we get closer to our return to WDW I get more excited with each picture and video. Thanks for posting, especially fo the poly.

Ok, I'll ask.... what the heck is a "torpedo toliet flush"?! :scared1:

High pressure, low water flush. It seems like you could flush a bowling ball with this system using very little water....watch the video clip. Popular on ships and planes, but now at many toilets near you....

I am just curious is there a specified time that the POR to Poly upgrades are taking place? As in all thru Feb and March ,etc? Meaning when do they forsee POR delivering the promised rooms?

The Royal Guest Rooms at POR were originally scheduled to open on February 17, and were recently delayed until around March 9 or 10.

Some of us riff-raff will be crashing at the Poly between those dates. ;)
