ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

On past trips, we have always requested and were placed in a 3rd floor room in Hawaii. For our upcoming trip, I requested 1st or 3rd floor for the possibility of something a bit different (just don't want to have nothing to walk out onto). Staying in Hawaii building which floor would you prefer and why??? My kids are 10 & 11 if that makes any difference! Thanks

We requested first over 3rd last trip but I have a 3 and 5 year old. We wanted to be able to sit on the patio after the kids went bed and be able to send someone around the building to the lounge to get drinks. I REALLY liked having the extra access to the room. Was nice when we were at the quiet pool etc... But you can hear people above you - so that was a downside to it.

Good luck!

I keep saying "They all float down here" in a whispery, throaty voice and shuddering....

OMG you had to say that out loud. I've been having nightmares about that line for 20 years. :scared1:

And this is why we will never, ever stay at the BW! :lmao:

Thanks again guitarob for posting your videos! :thumbsup2 I think I will have to play them while enjoying a yummy pineapple popsicle when I relax tonight after the kiddos have gone to bed and DH is at work.

So I just officially booked the Polynesian Resort for 8 nights in a GV-CL for my family of four:cool1::woohoo:
We are not traveling until November 2012. We will be there from the 3rd to the 11th. So it will be Jersey Week (my DD will have most or possibly all those days off from school) and while there we will be celebrating our 5th Wedding Anniversary:love:
I know I should be jumping for joy but I'm feeling apprehension about a few things and even though it's booked it's so far away that I feel like it really may not happen. DH has to request the week off during their vacation bidding in January so that is something that could fall through. Also I booked using a travel agent rate (I'm a travel agent but not a Disney Specialist just to be clear in case you wonder why I may have so many Disney questions, lol). So the other problem is there is a possibility that I won't be with this agency (or possibly with any agency) by the time our trip rolls around. If that is the case, and I'm no longer entitled to the discount we may have to downgrade substantially to a moderate or possibly the Dolphin.
So with so many unknowns, I'm finding it hard to get overly excited. What's wrong with me?:confused3 DH told me to book for April 2012 (just not Easter week) because my TA ID will still be valid then (expires June 2012 and can obviously only be renewed if I'm still in the industry), but I do not feel right taking my daughter out of high school for a full week.

Many of us have been there - cautiously optimistic! And you have to pick a time that is right for you and your family. But even if you stay elsewhere, it is STILL Disney!!! Of course, you can always start socking away some extra funds so if anything does happen, you can still have that cushion and stay at the Poly. I do this all the time, put a little money here and there and I have it just in case we need it. Good luck!

38 days and counting... My stress level is through the roof right now..I so need this vacation!!

Sounds like things haven't improved at all with your situation. Hope you are able to put things aside for your trip and enjoy your vacation!

I'm so excited to be staying at the Poly on Nov 27th! We're also going on a trip next week, and while we're there we'll be checking out the resort and doing the Spirit of Aloha show. :thumbsup2 This thread is very helpful, so thank you all! :flower3:

Okay...long day at the office!!! I was in a meeting this morning in which 95% (probably more) had NOTHING to do with my job!!!!! So I pulled up the DISboard on my phone and read....Breezy shhhhh.....

Anyway I need to come to my sensible DISfriends who are Poly lovers for some unbiased, HONEST advice....

Okay...I am turning the big 40 this year and in fear that we weren't going to book another vacation to WDW I told DH that I would like to go to WDW for my 40th. The next thing I know we are also celebrating my DISbil 50th and my DNiece's 21st (insert: omg you are tooooo young to have a 21 year old niece ). Anyway, now my bday is coming up in August and feeling a little gipped....

DH had a party for his 30th and 40th [30th told me he preferred not to, but I did it and 40th decided let's have something with immediate family(one more side note DH did NOTHING for my 30th and I was pissed!!!)]. Now it is my turn and even though I'm thrilled to be going to WDW and THRILLED that everyone agreed to switch back to the Poly (at my request) instead of the WL....I still feel kind of gipped....this is just (okay never "just") another family vacation to WDW.

My DH wasn't planning anything...zip...nada...when I asked if anything was going on. I pressed a little and he said my Mom was planning something..:sad2:Okay....Now he feels guilty...I don't know what I want...and he is getting frustrated with me. We aren't going until October and personally that is really where my heart is ...Disney. However, in the real world going in August won't work with the kids needing to return to school the day after my bday.

HELP!!!!! I don't know if I want a party, I don't know if I want to go out for dinner....I just want to go to WDW and relax by the pool and have a cocktail, but that is not possible :sad1: Yes. I am whining.

This party is going to be for everyone but me (which I am not good about giving anything for just me - it's always about everyone else i.e. part of the reason I asked to go to WDW).

Few additional things that I have thought about: I don't want to go to the spa (waste of time for a shorter than usual trip); cabana would be used by everyone in my party; gift card to spend until my heart's content on Food and Wine (but I will end up paying for everyone else); MNSSHP - okay thinking of the kids and DH instead of me; STOP WHINING and turn 40 with dignity!!!!:scared1:

DIS friends - flame away!!!!!

Let's meet for lunch soon....your situation sounds just like mine and I think we are married to the same guy  I am the party planner, the birthday celebrator, I make a big celebration out of everything for everyone else. When it is me....I get my favorite restraunt or something. It sucks.

BUT.....I think if you want to do something special for your Birthday at Disney then plan it and do it. It may be delayed but hey you are celebrating your 40th year!! What have you always wanted to do at Disney but never did??? That is my plan, even though my 40th b-day is 5 months after our trip :)

I work Tues and Weds...call me at MFM and we will have lunch :goodvibes
