Is anyone still planning on booking for the poly for next year even with all the construction planned? Am thinking of booking CR but cannot get past the idea of not staying at the poly (and we only stayed there once for two nights! but I was hooked)

I've booked it for May of 2014 because, like you, I can't get past the idea of not staying at the Poly (love the theming, walk to all Monorails, Wishes on the beach, breakfast at Kona, and that wonderful GCH smell:cloud9:).

But I'm nervous about the possibility of the Volcano Pool and/or GCH being closed, either of which would be show stoppers for us (not as concerned about the DVC construction, provided it's only at one end of the resort as we'll just request a longhouse on the opposite end).

If either the Volcano Pool or the GCH are closed, our first backup is a standard room at GF and our second backup is CR. My biggest worry is that by the time Disney announces a closure that would affect us (assuming there is one), there will be no availability at either of those resorts (or only super-expensive suites/club level rooms will be available).

So I'm gambling that both the Volcano Pool and GCH will be open for business next May and, if not, there will still be availability at comparably priced rooms at GF or CR.

Thats my fear too! We only stayed two nights but i would love to spend a week there and really enjoy it. We loved how big the room was too. The pool and gch are what I am worried about too. We are planning september and are planning to enjoy the resort more this time. I am debating if I should book cR garden wing now and switch to poly if discount announced??

Ummm..I don't think they were talking about a split stay?? GF and CR are backups depending on construction at the Poly...

What if you book Poly for one date in your name and GF for a few days later in your Spouse name and before your 45 day mark cancel one? That way you won't have to worry about no availability...

i agree that gch and pool are deal breakers. what about booking both stays and then cancelling one before penalties hit? only a 200 dollar investment. we should have a better idea at that point. :)

eta- you would get that 200 back.

We are planning on the Poly for our next trip in June/July 2014. Based on what I've read, I don't expect any construction to be a deal breaker for us. That may change as time goes on and they actually do something. But I think if there is major construction that interferes with our comfort- like the GCH being partially closed- we would stay at the Beach Club instead. Right now I'm planning on a great 10 days at the Poly next summer and not worrying about things over which I have no control!

Just got off the phone with IPO. I was able to get SOA and Crystal Palace but not Ohana for any night during our trip. I am so bummed. This is a really special trip and Ohana is our favorite place. She said she was going to try to email the manager of Ohana and tell him what a big celebration this is for us and see if he can do anything. She is also putting us on a keep calling list. I sure hope it comes through for us.

karriealex If your not located outside of the US and getting a reservation for 'Ohana is that important if it were me I would start checking multiple times a day myself online. Cancellations happen all the time even once you arrive, I've had luck at snagging coveted restaurants while at WDW when people cancel last minute 24-48 hrs on places that require a CC hold.

princessap I thought the same thing but like your DH a split stay is a no go.

Oh, sorry! I can't see the signatures and tickers on my iPad!

Krystal I do not use the DIS APP and that is one of the reasons. The other was I lose my muti-quotes or any post if on my iPad and my Internet bleeps.
Tried it prefer using Safari

I just got an email from IOP and they were able to get me Ohana on the Monday after we get there at 9:50 PM. We normally eat around 8 anyway so the wait wont be too bad for us. We could also go a little earlier and put our name in and just see if we can get in earlier. I am just glad we got an ADR. Now everything is set up and perfect, I am a happy camper.

Thanks Sheila. I can't wait to get there. I have been away from Disney for too long and away from my beloved Poly. LOL now that I have no more plans to make it is going to be a loooooong 15 days. LOL
