ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: June 2013

This is the news I was expecting, and quite frankly, hoping to hear. When I originally heard the reports of bookending the Polynesian with DVC, I immediately felt that it was far more DVC than was needed. Especially considering I don't believe any other resort has DVC at two seperate locations on the property. Interested in whatever update you can provide Steve.

I was actually kind of appalled when I looked at Tikiman's site and saw what they were planning. The 5 story at the west side would have been enough but to build the one taking out Nuie and taking over Tahiti was too much. That doesn't leave a whole lot for non DVC people.

They were going to remove Rapa Nui not Niue but I agree it seemed like alot but it would have still had the same amount of rooms it did from 1978 to 1985. Maybe they just relized it was adding too many people to the resort.

Sorry Tikiman Rapa Nui is what I meant to say. It looked also like they were taking over Tahiti too. Plus the other five story building and the bungalows. I can't even imagine what it would be like with that many more people. I really think it would take away from the beauty and tranquility of the resort. I hope they do scale it back.

I don't know how much of the details I can share yet but I wanted people on here to know that if they are planning on going to the Polynesian next year there will be a lot less construction going on than originally planned but there will be work going on in the GCH and East end of the resort.

Just wanted to also share with the folks on here that Steve is reporting on another site that the plans for the GCH work include removal of the water feature.

While I am saddened to hear this, I am very appreciative of Steve for the updates here and on other sites.

And here's hoping the water feature will still be around (and the GCH open for business) when our family is there next May.

We (family of 5) are traveling to poly with my parents, and my brother's family. It will be their first Disney stay. I convinced them the Poly was worth the money. So there are 6 adults, 1 11 yo, and 4 kids ages 3-9. We are considering either upgrading everyone to CL or puchasing the dining plan (one quick and one table) for my parents and our family. The cost difference for our family between the two is 600 for our family (dining plan is 600 more than CL). Any suggestions as to what to do?

I might have to do some reconnaissance work while at the Poly next week Who do I have to spy on to get this Poly DVC information??? Possibly I can bribe someone with Lapu Lapus!?

With kids under 9 the dining plan is a good deal. We always use to do it until our boys became "adults". We ate a ton of character meals back then and I always felt it was a great bargain. There really isn't much in the CL lounge for little kids. PB&J, fruit, cookies, etc, that gets old after a few days. I bet the kids would love Be Our Guest, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickeys, etc, at their age they will really appreciate the character interaction.

Whatever they are planning had better be AMAZING because I just don't know how the Poly is going to feel like the the Poly without all the features they are planning to take away.

When is beer available in CL?

I have asked for wine as early as noon. We are on vacation, right ?

I also have asked for wine at night before 10p when they close.

Poly was great with requests. In afternoon I was mixing half red wine with the orange punch they have. I have had zero problems with requests at CR, GF and poly Cl's.

Have a great time. The CM's will want to help you, just ask. If going outside or to room just don't take in glass/dishes. Use plastic or disposable at poly. At GF or cr if going to room ok.
