I will have details I can share soon. It has nothing to do with Club Level.
Thank you so much Tikiman. You are such a wealth of information and such a help to all of us. What you do is VERY MUCH appreciated.

I don't know how much of the details I can share yet but I wanted people on here to know that if they are planning on going to the Polynesian next year there will be a lot less construction going on than originally planned but there will be work going on in the GCH and East end of the resort.

This is good news and bad news! We are planning on the Poly for June/July 2014 and what I'm really worried about is construction at the GCH. I'm wondering if we will want to spring for club level if it is minor construction or will it be so major we want a different resort? I guess we will wait and see. Thanks for the update, Steve.

ALSO, so we've been to a few Disney resorts. DS who is 3 now has a favorite place in all of WDW. CAPTAIN COOK'S. Seriously, after a morning at MK, he repeatedly whines that he wants to go back to Captain Cook's. We were tired by 1, so we went back. He was happy as a clam. When we got home, he had the Disney blues (like all of us always do when we get home) and he said, "(Sigh.) I miss Captain Cook's."

Just so funny that you work so hard to create magic and memories for your kids, and they find it where THEY want to find it!

After not being able to touch a screen to make dinner appear that night, I totally agreed with him!

VP

Isn't that the truth!! You never know what they will find magical. Our first trip, both of the kids still took naps (3 and 5). They fought over who would get to sleep on the chair with the ottoman. They ended up taking turns between that and the day bad. 2 large beds right there not in use (DH and I sat on the patio while they napped usually), and they're fighting over a chair. We wouldn't let them sleep in it all night, but they wanted to!

This also reminds me of the Christmas morning with lots of toys under the tree, some pretty costly. And DD went NUTS over the Lite Brite. She was about 4 I think. She ran up to DH and gave him a huge hug, saying she was "Soooo happy". It was the cutest moment. But of course, DH hadn't a single clue what was in that package - I had bought and wrapped everything!! Typical that Dad gets all the credit ;)

Interesting! We're going in March. Less construction sounds good, but we like Tokelau and of course use the GCH a lot, so those 2 places make me nervous!

I apologize, I've tried doing searches here and on google and am not coming up with answers - I guess I'm just not putting in the right search words. Aug. 6th will be our first Poly stay, I'm trying to find out about making 'smores and night time movie....I read that the 'smores are at 6 but that seems pretty early in the summer. Then I found somewhere that said take a scenic walk to the GF for 'smores making at 7. Does it take place at the Poly or GF? What time in August would they be doing this? I'm sure that at least one night we will watch the water parade and fireworks from the beach, I was hoping to do the campfire and movie the same night.

You mean like this?????

Finally got back on the boards this morning, and this made me, once again, actually LOL! :rotfl:

Thanks for the great info as always. Will wait to hear more details when you're able to share.

6 more days for us!! :faint: And I refuse to let that tropical storm swirling WAY out there get me down! It's too far off yet for worries. And I'm just going to view it as more rain means less people in the parks to contend with! We are poncho-prepared!

Disney is going to scale back the plans for DVC at the Polynesian. It will still start this year but be much less than the original plan. There are some things in the new plan that people will love and people will hate.

Thank you so much for keeping us all informed. Yes, you are very much appreciated!

I am anxious to here more! Though the some things people will hate gives me pause...

What side is considered to be the East end? The Luau side? :confused3

The statement of the leisurely walk over to the GF was back when the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian shared a camp fire and movies at the beach next to the Wedding Pavilion.

They now both have their own movies and camp fire. They start doing the camp fire at 6:00

Thanks! I am directionally challenged. :goodvibes

The GCH thing is concerning! I would have been ok with DVC construction, but don't think I would be ok with GCH or pool construction.

The GCH construction will probably be done in steps as to not disturb resort guests too much.

You know you are addicted to a board when you're exhausted from not sleeping at night but you don't go and lay down because your phone keeps alerting you of a message. LOL:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Oh my! Thank you for this!! We are doing the 5K because "someone" (not me) was dragging his feet making a decision (ha!) and we didn't get registered in time! So if we took the monorail from the Poly and got off at EPCOT where does the 5K start in relation to the EPCOT entrance? I didn't know we wouldn't have to take the bus! Yeahoo! The whole "having to wake up crazy early" thing might totally convince him too!!

I shouldn't have posted too quickly regarding the 5K part! I've read lots about the monorail running to the PHM, but race programs for 2011, 2012 and 2013 say that monorail transport is not available to the 5K start - boo! If we were only doing 5K, I'd also consider BWI it BC because the bus ride would be so short!

And I understand the registration issues! I registered for the PHM at the last minute - 96% full and then registered our youngest for the kids' races and our teens for the 5K. I'm doing the 10K at Disneyland with my husband and our teens next month, so the Enchanted 10K would have been more challenging for them, but it was sold out. Oh well - they'll have an easy weekend!

Okey dokey! Thank you! Beach Club and BWI priced out a little lower than the Poly, but my heart is at the Poly!

We really wanted to do the 10K. We did our first one here in Charleston in April and it was so fun! Oh well, like you said, we'll have an easy weekend and won't be too tired or sore for fun in the parks ;)

Here's hoping that is true (I'd always sort of assumed they'd hold off on the GCH construction until a DVC building was completed so they'd have the option of using the DVC building as a resort-wide check-in point).

When does construction begin? I was hoping to sneak in one last visit.

This is the news I was expecting, and quite frankly, hoping to hear. When I originally heard the reports of bookending the Polynesian with DVC, I immediately felt that it was far more DVC than was needed. Especially considering I don't believe any other resort has DVC at two seperate locations on the property. Interested in whatever update you can provide Steve. :thumbsup2
