ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: June 2013

Hate to say it, but last week in Hawaii CL, our Poly fridge worked just like it always has in the past (in other words, it didn't work very well....). We still had to open a cupboard door to keep it ventilated. I'm not sure if my husband pulled it out and found the adjustment on the back side, though. He may have just assumed it was the same old problem.

Same with us. The CM in the lounge even told us to do it. If the controls are in the back, the CM should be informed so they can pass on correct information to guests.

I just talked to the IPO at the Poly and they said the refrigerators were not being removed or disconnected.

Its sounding more like IPO has not been notified yet. I am getting reports that the removal will include the Polynesian. Hopefully we will hear more soon.

Hopefully we will find out positively from someone staying at the Poly now if they get a letter or not

Someone on the other thread about fridges confirmed that the Poly will not have fridges (confirmed by Disney). Could just be word of mouth, but I saw lots of people posting on there saying Poly will have no fridges!

That's what we are...SV with DxDP. Someday maybe we'll splurge for CL!

Us too!!! A friend was trying to convince us to change to CL...but since we are already doing DxDP I thought that would be over the top. ;)

Totally agree, club and deluxe is total overkill.

I was intending to write a longer review at some point, but from our recent club stay at the Poly last week I would say we REALLY LOVED IT, way more than we were expecting. But we also thought the club level, while nice, was not a necessity as it could be in other resorts, mainly because the Poly is so nice in and of itself. And also it doesn't give you a huge benefit like staying RPC at GF which puts you in the main building. (Similarly, we would never stay at Sugar Loaf, while many people love it.) Just our opinion, of course!

I would add this was based on having the refurbished room, which may be still tough to get if not club. From that perspective, staying club may have made a difference for this trip. The new rooms are fantastic.

Yes, we either do one or the other. DxDDP was really fun and we just stayed in a regular GV room at Poly and it was a great trip. However, with these new rooms in Hawaii, we LOVED our recent stay just last week and it's going to be hard not to stay CL there in the future.

As a side note, it sounds like a lot of us were there over the 4th last week. I don't know about any of you, but I'm already almost certain we'll do it again next year. What a perfect place to be during the 4th. Only hope I have is that the staff can come up with a better solution for keeping non-Poly guests in a certain area to view Wishes. I posted a picture in this thread right on the 4th of the view we had from our patio until the manager and security came along and moved people forward and had the people also sit down. I strongly feel that the grass should be roped off and also that the non-Poly guests should have their own area to view Wishes so that the paying Poly guests can have first dibs at the beach and can easily view Wishes from their rooms (patios).

We've tossed around the idea of trying the DxDDP but at $400+ a day can you guys really eat $3200 worth of food in a week? I think our last WDW trip in May at the YC our total food bill (room charging) when we checked out was around $1600. That's half the price and we ate some great meals (Le Cellier, Cape May, Mama Melrose, Nine Dragons, etc, etc). I just don't see getting our money's worth. Especially for my picky 11 year old who prefers to eat peanut butter and jelly over all else. :rotfl:

We are still here and we have heard nothing about fridges being removed. Will let you know if that changes.

Erika are you doing a TR this trip? Please?!?

We come in just a little more than $2000 for DXDDP for 8 nights (3 kids under 10, next year that will change as our DD turned 9 yesterday). Last year we were OOP and offsite and our food bill was right about $1500. I felt like I was always settling and not really getting what I wanted. So while we are paying $600 more, we have 20 meals booked over 9 days this year. Last year when OOP we only ate 1 sit down meal a day for dinner, ate breakfast at our hotel and shared a lunch/snack most days. I can easily see us switching to CL and paying OOP once our kids become disney adults or maybe this can just be my excuse to my DH. :lmao:

If you haven't heard yet, this just came out:

Refrigerator Removal from Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort and Aulani Guest Rooms

Due to a possible defect in the refrigerators in some of the Guest rooms at the Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resorts, as well as Aulani Resort hotels at these locations have removed or temporarily disconnected Guest room refrigerators until the issue can be resolved.

Guests staying at these Resort hotels will be notified of the refrigerator removal via a letter in their room. Currently the schedule for replacing the refrigerators at these Resorts is expected to last several months.

This applies to all resorts with the mini fridge. In my opinion, It is not a refrigerator defect, it is an engineering defect. They put the mini fridges in an enclosed space with no airflow, so they overheat. All they need to do is modify the door on the cabinets (vent slots, a mesh, etc for airflow while the door is closed.) Instead of turning off the fridge in all rooms, just remove the doors for the modifications. Then the clients still have a working fridge while they correct their engineering mistake.

I am wondering if I should cancel or modify my Garden Grocer order, since they are saying it could take 4 months for the replacements to be complete.

We just got back from our trip today. Now it makes sense why they came around the other day doing a refrigerator inventory.

Personally I would do CL before I did DxDDP.

Even if when I have a GV CL room I still can go into the lounge and see that amazing view!

I'd rather have all the snacks, alcohol and soda then the 3 T'S meals, as much as my family eats in DDP we couldn't eat everything on DxDDP. Plus I like that my coffee, soda, water, breakfast, snacks and CMs are all in the same building with me!

This will be our first non CL stay at the Poly ( just couldn't afford it b/c I lost my job, trip is a gift from my mom) and although we are really praying for some pixie dust for our anniversary After this terrible year.

I noticed that this yr the FD saved us more than RO, the last 2 Poly, And GF stays we got 40% off but the GP code is only 20% at Poly this yr.. I keep calling hoping I have a personal PIN with 30 or 35%..

Below is the email response I received from the Poly IPO this morning. We are arriving next week.

Aloha!

We are replacing certain refrigerators in the rooms, however, we are putting another refrigerator in the rooms, your room will have one. If for some reason you get in your room and there is not one, we will get you one. Hope you have a Magical Day!
Mahalo,

Mahalo,

That's great to hear!!!! That would be a huge inconvenience to many families. For my DH and I, we like to use the fridge to keep drinks cold, otherwise we don't really use it.

41 days until we are at the POLY for the first time! Excited is an understatement! I've been enjoying all the pictures on this thread and can't wait to experience the beauty of this resort.
I just did online check in last night. Requested Samoa, 3rd floor!!!!
Doing the happy dance! :cool1:

Just paid off the balance of the Poly portion of our stay :cool1: Used our rewards money.............it was kinda sad to see that balance go to $0.00 :(
but at least it went to a good cause!!!

Why do we get so excited when we give our money to Disney???

Kids under 10 is the key for sure! ::yes:: My boys are 11 and 13 so they'd have to have adult plans. My 13 year old could probably come close to eating it all but my 11 year old hates 90% of all foods. :lmao: He loves CL because of uncrustables and chocolate chip cookies. He literally could live on them.

That's so funny - exactly how my two older boys are! My 15 year old eats non-stop; we love CL because he can go to lounge (almost) 24 hours a day and get food :lmao:. But my 12 year old could care less about food - he's starting to hit those growth years, and is hungry more often now, but can't find enough food he likes to eat!!
