ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Um, can I nominate myself president of the club for DWs who always do ALL the packing?

I've done ALL the packing for 24 years. If I didn't, one sock with holes and a trial sized tube of expired toothpaste might be about all that would be hastily packed.

My DH asks me almost daily if I'm going to make any changes to our reservation or if I've read anything interesting on the DIS. He knows I get resort remorse soon after booking. On top of that, he always tells me that he's happy with ANY (deluxe;)) resort and that he'll stay anywhere and that it's all up to me. Now, what kind of help is that?
I second your nomination-and I'd like to be a member

My DH (and I like the D not quite standing for Dear) can't even pack an overnight bag. He'd sooner just wear the same thing the next day. I get the txt messages saying "Where are we staying today?" He can't believe there is ANYONE like me out there. He says he doesn't care where we stay, but he sure puts in his 2 cents when I pick a place:laughing:

I have never had a Lapu Lapu either....must try. Either been pregnant, breastfeeding, or just not drinking at the time.

You guys all crack me up....I loved the Lapu Lapu chat. As far as DH's go , mine just says "what day are we leaving and how much is this gonna cost? Oh and also don't forget to make sure we can eat at Kona and Ohana." LOL
I don't think he even realises how long and involved packing is for a family of five! However, he buys me as many Lapu Lapu's as my little heart desires and when I scrape the inside with my straw he does not judge...he's a keeper. :rotfl2:

This one's a bit easier to read in avatar size:

Anxiously awaiting an email from the IPO about our reservations, should be either today or tomorrow that I hit the 180 mark for the Poly portion of our trip. I really can't believe I didn't just go and do it myself -- it's been like sitting on my hands for the past 3-4 days.:surfweb:

Want to know what the miracle is? I was actually able to sit down with the hubster and talk about the plans. :rotfl: He never, ever wants to talk about it.

We got our email this morning and they got us every single request! :woohoo:

And reading this thread is justification for my never wanting to get married! I will gladly sit on the beach solo with my pineapple and spork while the kiddos play to their heart's content!

You are definitely president! :thumbsup2 I've only got 10 years under my belt of doing all the packing.

I have printed lists (admit it, you do, too;)) made out weeks in advance to help ensure my packing success. I take pride when nothing is forgotten.

Oh, indeed! I'd be lost without my spreadsheets and packing lists. Although, I tend to think I'm only obsessive in the pre-planning; the hubster would disagree. Obsessive like spending unhealthy hours on the Dis forums doing research. ;) As far as when we get there, I have general plans like "Today we'll do this park" and a generic list of "good for young kids" rides.

I'm afraid of too much commitment. :rotfl: So, I keep ADRs to a minimum -- we're only doing 3 for September. On second though, make that 4 since I remembered that T-Rex place in DTD and the kiddo adores dinosaurs. I'm just more keen on getting some ice cream from Ghirardellis. *drool*

:hyper:I might have to switch to the avatar-sized one:scratchin. How do you make all these so quickly? Great job:thumbsup2.

Thanks. Just a very amateur PhotoShop mess-arounder, really.

Is that his code for, "you do all the work?"

Thirding! :thumbsup2

My hubster ... he has a long lost twin out there?! :lmao::lmao:

:rotfl:Yep, same here, DH just needs to know what dates to put on the vacation calendar at work and he has to have his favorite WDW breakfast at Kona's at least once - the Samoan. However, that's where we part ways. My DH's pleasure in having me handle all the details is not knowing the cost. The other day he saw the booking page up on the screen with the RACK RATE:scared1: prices for CL and he said, "Oh, is that what it costs? That's not so bad.":sad2: I told him that was rack and that it didn't include the 40% military discount:upsidedow.

And yes, if they put up with our WDW OCD, they are all keepers:thumbsup2.

LMAO! Ok while I have a keeper..I didnt want to admit that my husband also will try and wear the same outfit the next day!

Of course I will immediatley show him I packed something else for him..

Men..

I'm so glad you got all your ADRs. I hope I haven't made you not want to marry. I love being married to my dear DH (have been since 19). If I wasn't married, I'd have to talk to myself about WDW - DD12 can only take so much...

Thirding! :thumbsup2

Until they start charging for ADRs, I'm going to have at least one per day. And, just to clarify, none of the planning is "work" to me. I love it and if DH weren't the complete opposite of me in packing and planning, I'd go bonkers since I have to have control over every detail. It's a match made in heaven.

I agree WDWKOOK. I'd hate it if my DH wanted to plan, cause I enoy it soooo much. It's fun for me to do this. To plan where to eat and figure out where we should go .....it's really something I look forward to doing. I love that when we are on vacation eveyone always asks me, " So mom, where are we eating tonight?" or "Mom,, which park are we going to tomorrow?" It's a lot better than when we are at home, "Mom, What are we eating tonight?" or "Mom, can you drive me to so and so's house and then pick me up 2 hours later?" At least at WDW someone else is cooking , cleaning and driving!:rotfl:

I'm sure others will provide input on the longhouse, we've only stayed in Hawaii. Anyhow we enjoyed our 3rd floor room MUCH better than our 1st floor room. On the 3rd floor we had no one walking above us, which typically isn't so bad, but since were an early to bed crew and I have a few light sleepers when we were on the 1st floor and the people above us arrived "home" (often much later than us) we would often hear them. We also liked the privacy of no one walking by our room and looking in (which would be the same of the 2nd or 3rd floor room). However having a 1st floor room, if you wanted to let your girls play outside while the baby napped, it would be a LOT easier to sit on the patio (1st floor) and watch them (with the baby inside) while they played outside on the grass. :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing your experience. I think for us the 3rd floor is the way to go.

I also have only stayed in the Hawaii builing but after doing some research I cam up with:
Ratonga, Fiji or Aotearoa are close to the GCH, I would request a balcony so that you can go out on it while the kids nap..

Thank you!

Of course you can!

Great! I'm really looking forward to all the great food Poly has to offer!

Completely agree. All the "work" is so much fun, I only wish I was getting paid to do it. :thumbsup2

A quick related story:
It was our first Disney trip as a family last year in September: the kiddo had never been and neither had the hubster. He was super-skeptical about the whole venture from the get-go. He was scoffing at the lines for the ME; I told him to zip it because at least he didn't have to drive. The rest of the trip was relatively easy-going and nice.

Anyway, after we had returned home, during one of our recollections of all that we had done ... he actually told me, "Honestly, that was probably the best vacation we've ever had."

I almost cried; it was so unexpected to hear him say that and made me feel over-the-moon. Then I promptly did the little "lick finger, score one to me" gesture. Yeah, mine's a keeper too ...

... as long as he stays off my Lapu-Lapu. ;)

Thanks! And you didn't make me not want to marry. I've ALWAYS felt that way!

Hahaha! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that bit as I would've undoubtedly spit it out all over the computer screen. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Well, I was drinking something once I caught up w/ the thread (it sux I can't get to the DIS from work) and was :rotfl::lmao::rotfl2: when I saw the LSSSG 'logo'. My DD wanted to know why I was laughing so hard I was snorting.

Funny story--my two sisters had never had a Lapu Laup before so I ordered it for them. I of course had two. They were scraping the pineapple, knocking it back not feeling anything--until they stood up. The hilarity that ensued at the MK after that...well...let's just say they were doing things (funny things) they wouldn't do if folks could see them. Gotta love that Invisibility cloak!

Do they hang the towels above the toilet at the Poly? Call me,I don't know, weird perhaps, but I am really bothered by having my towel above the toilet.:confused3

Holy cow! :scared1:Look at my ticker! Can't wait!I think I'll go pack now!LOL!

I think it might depend on whether you're in a one sink longhouse or a double sink longhouse. But there is space beneath the sinks if you'd rather store them there. Have a great vacation!

We've stayed in 2 different rooms in Hawaii and neither had towels anywhere near the toilet. :thumbsup2
