ZuZu03, look at that ticker! Have a wonderful vacation.

Thanks Aristocath!!! We're in the home stretch now!
Your DH sounds like mine. He teases me about being obsessed with WDW planning, and doesn't like to be involved with the details at all (other than his room category request). He just wants to show up and have the perfectly planned vacation laid out before him. I hate to tell him that actually requires planning ... the Disney magic isn't that good! :lmao:

BTW, Zuzu, what the heck are you doing on here?! Shouldn't you be packing or obessing over last minute details or doing a happy dance or something?! :rotfl: Have a fantastic trip!!

Hahah, yes, but I'm waiting for the dryer to stop on the LAST load of laundry. Jolie is at "dog camp" and my massage/pedi is scheduled for 4:00 so I'm going to hang and watch the Germany/Spain semi-final!

It sounds like if we left the trip planning up to some of the DH's (Not All, But maybe more than most) We'd be begging for tables and staying in rooms with views of parking lots... GOOD THING THEY HAVE US OCD DW's ;)

You got that right!!!! ;)

Wow, I had a bunch to catch up on! I was in....(drumroll) MICHIGAN! So for those of you on this thread from MI, I am originally from there and my family lives there. I flew out there with my kids for the holiday and we went (where else) up north to our family cabin on the lake. Nice time and no internet. But I'm back to counting down to our Disney trip in September - yahoo!!!

Hi everyone!

Our stay at the Poly (Hawaii bldg!) is less than a week away. Kids ages are 16, 15, and 7.

We have stayed there twice before, but never truly spent much time on the grounds besides the pools.

Tell me what your favorite Poly activity is...what should we absolutely do or see?

I have seen some really good reviews on Kona...and we have never eaten there so I think we'll give that a try.

We talked about the dinner show but decided against it. Our kids are very big on spending LOTS of time in the parks and are not big eaters.

My favorite Poly activity - drinking tropical drinks ;)

Hi! I'm new here. I've been reading all the Poly thread from past years. You guys have sooooo much information. Taking DH and DS for their birthday (same day in Sept.) can't wait. Originally thought of staying at AKL but something about the Poly is so mystical, can't wait. Thanks for all the tips!

Welcome!

Welcome back, Tinkerbellie - you fellow Michigander! Do you still show people where you used to live using your right hand? :lmao: It is another very hot day here in Michigan - like Disneyworld in June, hot. We'll be heading to WDW in September, too! Happy counting down! :flower3:

I TOTALLY show people where I am from using my hand (and where the cabin is) :rotfl: It actually is quite handy :)

Mackinac Island has a new fudge shop by Sanders and they had SALTED CARAMEL CHOCOLATE FUDGE - OMG heaven :littleangel: And my son got LEMON LIME fudge that is NEON green  But it actually wasn't that bad. And of course we got all sorts of the usual fudge :)

Also had an obligatory chicken dinner at Frankenmuth and ran into lovely july 5th traffic on 75. But it was a great trip and MI had really nice weather for the holiday.

I see you'll be going earlier in September than me so while we can count down together a bit, we won't be there at the same time.

Does anyone know if the Poly lets you have special desserts delivered to the room, like they do at the Contemporary?

Since I will be taking some family members that have never been to WDW before, I wanted to surprise them with a treat in our room.

At the Contemporary, the In-Room Service menu has a listing for special events like chocolate strawberries, chocolate characters, chocolate monorail, or a chocolate character with strawberries... etc.

Anyone know if they do this at the Poly? I haven't seen it mention here. :confused3 Wasn't sure if it was exclusive to the Contemporary.

Thanks!

A woman after my own heart! BTW, welcome back to MI--where's the family cabin? My family used to live in Gaylord but had to get away from the snowbelt--not far enough yet, but we're getting there. ;)

I am SO glad that I found this thread! I am fairly new to the disboards but a lifelong fan of Disney as is the rest of my family. My husband and I finally got a chance to stay at the Poly for the first time last year and we fell in love with the place. They gave us a bounceback so we are going again this year and will be taking our 3 year old daughter for the first time.So excited!! In 2 months I will be laying in a hammock watching the fioreworks! Thank you to everyone to all the awesome information! :cloud9: :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

I agree. DH & I were really annoyed when we read about the stuff being flogged on the beach. It makes it feel like TPTB are possibly starting to see the Poly as a "destination" in itself and completely ignoring the disrespect and possible inconvenience it creates for the guests who have paid a lot of money to be there. I really hope that the merchanising was only to take advantage of the holiday weekend revellers (even though that is distasteful in itself) and doesn't become a permanent fixture. Were they also doing this at GF & CR? Does anyone know?

We love the Poly and we love the location, but we too would consider having future stays at other resorts if the Poly starts being taken over by others. I understand that people come there to enjoy the restaurants, luau and simply to take in the atmosphere, just as I enjoy visiting other resorts. But TPTB also have to be careful of inconveniencing their paying guests and detracting from their vacation experience. Clearly they ignore the pool issue, I hope this fireworks thing isn't the beginning of a trend. It concerns me that a local paper would encourage locals fo come to take in the 4th of July fireworks as a cheap alternative to having to pay to get into the park. Will that also be the case when they have Hallowishes & the MVMCP fireworks? While, as I mentioned earlier we like to stay TPV, so the fireworks isn't a huge issue for us personally, having tons of extra people milling around the resort, using the pool, CC's etc. isn't that appealing.

Very eloquently put. :thumbsup2

My DH thinks the same because I plan EVERYTHING, he's a more "go with the flow" type. Although he sure enjoys when things work smoothly, usually because I've been in the background make sure things DO go smoothly! ;) I've changed my ADRS a ton of times for this trip, there are just too many good choices!!! AND, if you do miss something, you'll just have to put that on your list for next time! :lmao:

I have an Microsoft Project plan for our trip.... if I can plan a 8 month project at work, then I can plan an 8-day vacation.... and yes... the family says I am crazy...

Everyone seems very nice! I have NEVER logged intoa chat room but I did because everyone seemed so nice and helpful. This will be our first official trip (visited Animal Kingdom when DS was 2 months) But never a full fledge Disney Vacation! I think im more excited than my 5 year old! Ha!

:welcome:

Those of us who love the Poly do find it a pretty neat place. My family has enjoyed many Disney resorts in our 27 yrs of WDW visits, but the Polynesian remains special.

Hope you both enjoy it as much as we do! Happy planning!!:goodvibes

We will be there the 8th -14th celebrating both our birthdays. Mine is the 9th, his is the 12th.
What a great way to spend an anniversary or a birthday! :yay:

I am HAPPILY doing laundry today...only because I am packing for our Poly CL stay which starts TOMORROW!!

This is the first time in 12 years that we have gone in the summer...we usually go in the fall.

I looked ahead at the forecast...calls for rain every day...but I'm sure it will be those fun afternoon showers that will chase everyone (but us) from the parks!!

We have lagoon view CL, and I have requested first floor so we'll see how that ends up. I am just happy to be going.:)

The one room hunting cabin (where I spent my childhood summer weekends with my parents and FIVE siblings - in ONE ROOM and an OUThouse :scared1:) is in Vienna a couple miles from Red's (is that still there???). The family cottage I was at for the fourth is in a much nicer spot (Lake Avalon in Hillman) for me now that I'm grown and care about showers and flushing toilets :rotfl:

Claim that hammock early ;)

Hum, if my sister was a Disney person, I would be wondering if this was her. Her birthday is on the 9th of Sept and her DH's is on the 12th, LOL.

We are heading to Poly in September for the first time and I can't wait!!! We've eaten there, but never stayed there. We spent a wonderful 10 days at AKL at the end of May and weren't planning to go back until 2012, but yeah, things kind of changed.

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Tinkerbellie--DH is from MI. He grew up in the Auburn Hills area. DH's mom and grandma are actually flying down from MI for our trip in September to meet us.

Tropical drinks sound yummy right now.....

I LOVE going in summer--hope you have a fabulous stay and will be looking forward to your pictures and impressions!

I'm not sure about Red's, but Vienna (unless there's one up north, too) isn't too far from where we are now. Hillman was close to where we were then. We had one of those family cabins too--no shower or hot water, but we did have an indoor facility. :rotfl: I didn't care to go much after about 12. :lmao:
