I'm a fast walker and I hurry everywhere
it didn't seem far to me at all... 5 minutes? I never timed it though. So if I'm completely wrong someone please correct me haha

That is the one.

If I understand my cousin correctly, the amoeba lives in the silt. So when you are swimming and playing in a shallow area, you stir up the silt and then you some how have to injest via your nose. I had asked him because I know people use water craft and at times may fall in. When you are out that deep you don't stir up the silt.

According to the article if the lake does have this bacteria they will post signs stating that. Further, based on the article it's very rare and there has only been a report 24 of fatalities since 1989. I think people would have a more of chance getting attacked by an alligator than getting this "rare" bacteria, in my opinion, and based on the cnn article.

Hello All!

Anyone going to the Spirit of Aloha? I'll be there May 19TH. We really love this show. For $55.00 you get a 4 course meal that is very good, entertainment, beer and wine and TAX and GRATUITY, all included in the cost. We're taking my DH parents and brother. We also have the Tables of Wonderland 20 percent off card so it's costing us less than the $55.00 p.p. It' really can't be beat, I highly recommend it!

I have a code and the only availability for the Poly is Nov 30-Dec 5. I want to go to see all the Christmas decos. :lovestruc Now staying at the Poly is always the best so I will take what I can get.:thumbsup2

People on another thread show the week before the December taping (Dec 4th) was soooo crowded.

Touring Plans show all the days prior a 4. Yikes, maybe they are not updated.

This is the schedule I was thinking. Let me know your thoughts, especially if you were there last year at this time.

Tues 30th arrive late
Wed 1st MK
Thurs 2nd DHS
Fri 3rd Pool/resort day, MVMCP that night
Sat 4th Pool/resort day
Sun 5th Home

:worship:Thank you!

Any Poly friends out there that can help??:confused3

Hi!

This is considered VALUE SEASON, which usually means lower to average attendance. Your schedule looks good. You're not going to visit EPCOT? I would do EPCOT before DHS, but that's just my opinion. I think theres more to do in EPCOT. Other than that your schedule looks good.

Have a magical vacation!

Brunette

Please stop with the water! We can chalk it up as a mystery that will never be solved with exception to going out there with a scientific team and searching for the elusive ameoba. We did see an alligator we named her Allie the alligator! Yes all Florida waterways have snakes!

If you feel that your children will get sick or Allie might come and visit, stay away from the beach.

CANT WE ALL get along?

Thank you! I have read on another thread that the crowds were heavy.

We can only do two parks. (I have to cut the strings somewhere.) This started out as a three day weekend. :rotfl: DHS has the Osbourne lights that we want to see. I would love to see EP though.

Since I am with my three children, DHS appeals to them more. My 13 year old said he would take another night at the Poly vs. another park day. Now I just have to hope we can swim, lol. If not, we may be touring DD.

Oh okay. Yes Osbourne lights is a MUST SEE! It's fantastic! You will definitely get into the Holiday Spirit when you go there. Don't forget Rock and Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, The Movie Ride, Back Stage Tour, Fantasmic, and several others. We also love to eat at Prime Time Cafe and or Sci Fi! They are both reasonable and fun, your kids will love em!

Have a Wonderful Vacation.

True, it is rare, but as much as I love the Poly, I fail to see the attraction of a little fake beach, with murky, kind of slimy water. Still don't think the risk(small though it is) is worth it.:confused3. Yes, it was only a handful of kids who died, but I bet any of those parents wishes they could turn back time and keep their kids out of those lakes..Then again, I come from somewhere where I have access to nice beaches so maybe I'm not understanding the draw for some people.

This is kind of freaking me out! My family swims in Texas in the summer in alot of freshwater pools/lakes. (We live in Colorado now but visit fam in the summer.) It sounds like it could be anywhere, not just certain marked areas. Or are the marked area where they have actually found it for certain?

They did mention nose plugs in the article, but I don't think there's any way to know for certain where the amoeba is at any given time. unfortunately, it seems often that a child will fall ill, then they go test the water. It is rare, but cold comfort to a parent that's lost a child to it.:sad1:

I'm not a fan of swimming in lakes/ponds..I'm a saltwater girl, and around here sometimes you have to be careful too. That's mainly because of jellyfish though.:)

OK guys I am a Pediatric nurse who works in an ICU so I tend to be paranoid anyway:lmao: BUT my opinion on this is just why take the risk? The articel does NOT say that the child needs to be submerged just that the water needs to get into your nostrils which can happen just from them wading and the water splashing up just as they inhale. I don't know about Colorado but we DO know that it HAS been found in FL for sure. When I lived in Fl I took care of a child who exhibited these symptoms and they couldn't figure out what the problem was... they later suspected he might have had this:sad1: Guys it was one of the most horrible times in my career. Like I said I know I see alot and I am paranoid but I truly feel if you can prevent something that-- may be rare yes-- but is sooo devastating why wouldn't you? I know you are on vacation and you want your kid to have fun but to me the WORST thing that I can imagine is knowing that I could have prevented something hurting my child and didn't do it. Everyone always thinks that it won't happen to them until it does...

Anyway sorry for the long thread but the memory of that child has stuck with me all these years later:sad1:

So back to happier topics I LOVE the POLY and can't wait for our second stay in August!!
Have fun on your trip!! Yes, maybe it's the nurse in me that doesn't let me stay silent about stuff like this:lmao:. Back when the swine flu was a hot topic, I got into it with a few people here because I stated that while people shouldn't panic, it had the possibility to be bad so precautions should be taken. That's it..I didn't say cancel the trip or anything. Well, all the aluminum hat wearing, media/government/vaccination hating conspiracy theorists came out of the woodwork and said that the swine flu was an invention by the media to panic people. I posted a link to a few articles with some swine flu facts and people posted that they didn't care about no stinkin' facts since the article was written by media demon spawn(Yes, I'm exaggerating to a point, but you get my drift):rotfl:

So, people are going to do what they want, as nurses, all we can do is put the information out there.

And I didn't mean to slam the Poly beach, it's cute for what it is. But, in no way is it a real beach-don't think it was meant to be-think it's meant to be mainly about the view these days. Which I will enjoy immensely in September while eating my Dole Whip.:thumbsup2:lovestruc

No one is fighting. Just debating, which is what discussion boards are for..:confused3

I didn't think anyone was fighting either...:confused3 Just some words of caution.

As far as the Poly Beach..it looks very pretty :beach:....I mean it's lovely to watch wishes,:wizard: or sit in the hammocks. Only, it's not a real "beach"... I personally never had the desire to swim in it. Then again, I live on an island..

just got back-All I can say is AMAZING! We got upgraded to CL! Mini report on resort boards...Any questions let me know!

This is not a thread to debate issues. This thread is for FAQ for the Polynesian resort. My point is everywhere there is something that can harm our children. I live in a city where so many things could happen to my kids but I am not going to wrap them in bubble wrap and lock them in their rooms. Everyone that has children deserves the right to raise them without prejudice or judgement from other parents.

Beating a dead horse about the water because someone feels they are right doesn't change the fact that there is no proof one way or another on this issue. We have done water skis and tubing and jet skis in that water and hve not died yet. I had a friend die from eating cheese but I still eat cheese.

I am just saying I would like to open dis and see something else besides speculation and judgement.

Not beating a dead horse. Just having a discussion on the topic and people offering what they know about a topic. Which in this case deals with water at a resort which happens to include the Poly in this case.

The speculaton and judgement depends on what a person knows and/or believes. So view points may differ.

I enjoy reading and participating in the Poly thread because everyone here is friendly and will allow one to state their opinion and not be judged.

Now if December would just get here, so we can go to the Poly! I love the summer but this year I am so looking forward to our trip.

Hello all. Haven't been around the Poly thread in a long time. We decided to mix things up and stayed at the YC a few weeks ago. While it was a lovely resort with top notch accomodations, service, and amenities....I missed the Poly:sad1:

I missed the beautiful lush tropical grounds with tiki lit walkways. I missed the smell of smoke coming from Ohana. I missed the sounds of the Luau and guests passing by in flower leis excited to get to their room. I missed tonga toast for breakfast and aloha pork sandwiches and poly chips for lunch. I missed gazing over the lagoon at Cinderella's castle and hearing the train whistles and ferry boat horns. I missed the extra large rooms with warm Polynesian decor including the cushioned chairs and ottoman. I missed sipping Pina Colavas on the beach while watching the girls build sand castles and relaxing in the hammock.:cloud9: I missed the monorail and the boat rides. I missed watching the fireworks and EWP from my balcony or beachside. (Big sigh...) While YC was lovely and I don't have any real negatives to say about it(other than the lack of good quick service at the resort)...it just wasn't the Poly.

We won't be back to Disney next year as we are taking a year off for a beach or mountains vacay, I am already dreaming of a Poly stay in 2012:love: I know some people on these boards think us diehard Poly fans are nuts, so be it. Less competition for my table at the pool and my hammock near the pool bar:cool1:

Thanks for letting me share. I feel better now that I have confessed my feelings:goodvibes
