ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

You know Im not even gonna count days..It will depress me..LOL makes it seem even longer..Nope not gonna do it!

I agree! Especially since the news is telling us all the batton down the hatches that we are going to get this massive storm :headache:

I was in such a great mood this morning working on packing, etc and now dh called and is coming home from work with the "flu". :sad1: And as usual he gave both girls hugs and kisses before work. :scared1:

I am trying to keep positive and picture us all healthy at the beach watching wishes!

:scared1::scared1::scared1:
I feel for you! We have a very bad history with illness and our Disney trips. I have a bad rep in the 6 weeks leading up to our trips. If I could put us all in a bubble I would :lmao: I am a self proclaimed germophobe as it is :rolleyes1

I would go get some Airborn or that occiccc...something and you and your kiddos should swim in it! Good luck :goodvibes

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at the Poly!

In Hawaii, first floor, garden view. Second-to-last room on end opposite of Concierge Lounge. Maybe closer would have been more convenient, but it wasn't a long walk down the hall and it was totally silent at our end of the hall. Beautiful tree outside our room. Kids (2 and 5 years old) played outside while we were getting ready or doing stuff in the room (had door open so we could see them always).

No bedbugs, one spot with torn wallpaper (down low; wouldn't have noticed without 5-year-old pointing it out), excellent mousekeeping all week.

Only one towel animal and it was defective! I think it was intended to be mickey but only had one ear (one big circle and one little circle). Maybe it was an "8." I'm not obsessed with towel animals though, so I didn't care that we weren't getting them.

Personalized birthday card from Mickey Mouse was in our room on our son's birthday.

Lounge was great--good food, good service, fun for the kids. And that rum drink! Yum!

We had decided to buy DVC (BLT), but after this trip, we changed our minds! We'd rather stay at Poly.

Thanks to all who have posted here for the information that helped make our trip magical!

Thanks for the review :thumbsup2 We feel the same way. I would love to buy into DVC but I love the Poly too much

We just got back last night. We had a great, exhausting time!

I saw some questions about the Wishes pre-show. I believe it started 15 minutes before Wishes. Let the Memories Begin, and I thought it was amazing! We watched it from the hub one night, and again another night from the Wishes Dessert Party. I thought it was hard to see the pictures they used, but I didn't care about that. Again, amazing, and really worth seeing in the park. We just did some shopping after Wishes, give the crowds some time to clear out.

I did the online check-in. I had requested Tokelau, ground floor. We got to the resort around 11 am Saturday 1/22 and our room was 3rd floor, Tuvalu. I asked if there was anything available on the other side of the resort, and was told there were some rehabs going on over there and he had been moving people around all morning. I think I was being fed a line and he just didn't want to move me... I was disappointed, but at least I didn't get 2nd floor with no balcony! After I was done being a baby about it when we got in the room, I was happy to be at the Poly again. However, later in the week I really missed Tokelau, and being closer to TTC and the bus stop. I think I'll try a little harder to be moved next time. The last 3 years I had no problems requesting Tokelau on my ressie and getting it.

I am glad you had a nice trip.:wizard: Sorry you did not get your Tokelau but if it makes you feel better, I have heard from a reliable source that they are doing some improvements throughout the resort like new carpeting, painting and other esthetics. They usually do during the slower months like January and February.

Thanks for sharing your report :goodvibes

Everyone keep and eye out for our new thread....it should be coming up anyday now :thumbsup2 I, for one can't wait to see it :cool1:

Sounds like you had a great time! Sorry that you weren't able to get Tokelau though. I requested the Tokelau building for our upcoming trip. It looks like it's in such a great location!

lol I don't want to count days either. I almost went to home depot to get some mickey head paint chips to make a countdown calendar. When I started adding up how many I needed I got disappointed, turned away from home depot and went home. lol maybe in another few months I'll try it again:rotfl:

I think when DD is 3 months I'll make a countdown calendar. That should shave off a nice chunk of days. For now we can count down days until ADRs can be made! :thumbsup2

I agree - Tokelau is worth it!! We love 1st floor too, particularly east side. We actually moved rooms last trip after the 1st night because they could give it to us at that point. We were in Fiji, Luau cove side, 2nd floor, no balcony for that first night. That would not have worked for us for a week - that 1st floor makes it seem like you have much more room.

We'll move again this trip if we have to, but fingers crossed we can get it on the first day. Last time was a little disappointing b/c we do no parks our first day and I had the time to get settled. It worked out OK, but I'd like to get unpacked that first day!

What a great idea!!:worship: you said so nonchalantly like everyone does it!!

!
I feel soo bad for the cast members at the front desk..what happens when they are booked and someone doesn't like their room?:confused3 Walt should never have went with authenticity. The new longhouses have balconies on all three floors!

I will take that 2nd floor with no balcony..better than my iced up frozen city of philadelphia!:thumbsup2:rotfl2:

We're supposed to be getting snowed in tonight. I'll be looping my Poly playlist. Tomorrow I get to say "I get to make ADRs next month." Every little bit, right? ;)

I am jealous that you are getting to make ADRs next month. We won't be going back until sometime in 2013!

I may have to send you some money so you can buy me a few souveniers.

7 Months from today we will be checking into the Poly for the very first time!!!!! :cool1:

:cool1: woo hoo!! The countdown is on :)

ugh we're looking at that same storm. It's supposed to be nasty!

Absolutely every little bit counts. Celebrate the small successes

They are already closing schools here tomorrow and Wednesday and it has not even started snowing yet :scared1:

I am usually OK with a good blizzard...an excuse to hang out in my PJs and chill all day browsing the DIS...but sadly Hospitals never close and I am scheduled 12 hour shifts Tuesday and Wednesday  Thankfully I only live 5 minutes from work.

Stay safe everyone :goodvibes

Woo hoo! We've gotten a ridiculous amount of snow this winter with more coming! I just keep praying that it's going to be warm and sunny when we're at Poly in 20 days!

You have a Poly play list?! Will you share it?!

I'm so glad that (hopefully!) my doctor is going to put me out of work for the rest of my pregnancy because I can't commute through all this snow anymore. My boss is also less than understanding about me calling out when there's no one here to shovel my steps and driveway for me  You'd think since her daughter just had a baby she would be a bit more understanding.

You got it, sister!! As long as you include a little bribe for my own hollow pineapple-shaped souvenir. ;)

Where are you guys? I hit Wal-Mart today just to see the craziness. Lines reaching back into the aisles, empty shelves, no carts. We went to a little local grocery store to get some things we'd run out of and there was no line at the register. :thumbsup2

We just got the automated call (all of our phones rang at the same time, so we knew what was happening). Same here, no precip yet, but they're pumped for the snow day.

This shares some "official" songs, although I think there's a new loop since these: http://www.magicmusic.net/topic/60-polynesian-resort-area-music/page__st__20

I also add some of my own faves. Sometimes I'll leave Tikiman's site playing in the background while I clean house or do other necessary evils. :goodvibes Definitely makes it easier.

omg I know! Walmart was a madhouse yesterday! I actually put down my items and went to a different store.

We are in Southwestern Ontario and are supposed to get another 18-20 inches to go along with the foot that is already on the ground. We live Sarnia, which is where that big storm was right before Christmas, when hundreds of motorists were stranded on the highway. Thank God DH actually listened to me that day and didn't go into work (he commutes and drives 40 minutes each way for work, on that highway!) or else he would have been one of them. I have already told him he isn't going to work tomorrow!

Woke up to more snow this morning! New York City hasn't gotten this much snow since I don't even know when. I don't think it's been in my 26 year lifespan, that's for sure! Is it September yet? I could really use a sandy beach and a pina colava...and maybe a lapu lapu to wash it down. ;)

Wishing all my Poly peeps a great day, stay safe and warm and listen to plenty of Poly music!!

Good morning snowed in Poly peeps. :rotfl: You can add us to the list for today through Thurs... as of now it's an early release today, we'll be cancelled for sure tomorrow and possibly Thurs (which was already a scheduled early release. Tomorrow puts us at using all preallocated snow days for the year (185) and they announced that the days will all just tack onto the end of the year, so it's looking liek we'll be in school until July! :lmao:

Now to sit back and watch this weeks 20" of white he!! fall.

Right there with ya! We have 20" or more still on the ground. It is snowing like mad right now, just took my girls to school. We are coastal. I like to call Rhode Island the "Snow Changing To Rain State". But I am a bit leery with the ice we are supposed to get from this afternoon to late Wednesday! Snow-ice-rain-ice-snow is the plan... What a mess! I just want it all to end so we can safely get to the Poly  and not put too much burden on the people taking care of our place here... (cows, chickens, rabbits, big wood burner needs wood so lines to house don't freeze...)

I expect tomorrow to be our fourth snow day. Five and they will start cutting into April vacation-- that is my backup plan if we can't get south in :scared1:
