ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Hi Shelly!! :wave2: Nice to see you over here!!! :) Are you as anxious as I am for the August park hours to come out?? We need to look at our schedules in a few weeks and plan our meet!!! :cool1:

A question for the experts - we are planning on doing emh's at least for MK and Epcot. I know the resort loop monorail starts at 7am. What time does the TTC-Epcot line start running AND at what time should we be on the platform to be at the parks for am emh rope drop? THANKS :thumbsup2

The EPCOT line will be operating an hour before opening (if not sooner). You may have to show your resort ID at the TTC to board, but it will be running to get you there timely. We leave for rope drop about an hour ahead of the opening time.

We will be at the Poly in 8 days!!! Of course I am excited, however I was just thrown for a loop today, as I didn't know the Quiet Pool was closing for rehab! It wasn't on the rehab and closing list I refer to.

This will be our 4th time there. My request for Tokelau has always been granted, and of course I requested it again this time. Now I'm concerned about a not so magical view if we are on the Quiet Pool side.

I mentioned TPV to my DH, if our 40% off would still apply... so I start looking at Tuvalu and Tahiti, comparing views, location and walking distance...

This is not what I should be doing 8 days out. I should let it be and see what I get!

Hey Kim

I am so excited!!! :cool1: I wish summer would get here! I'm hoping the August hours come out bright and early on Feb 1st. ::yes:: But then we will have to wait another month for the September hours. :upsidedow

Yes, we will have to plan our Poly meet! :goodvibes

I have some good news for you Shelly!!! I have been watching the Disney Travel Agent link to park hours and it appears that they post the park hours much earlier than everybody else!!! In fact I expect the hours for August to be posted NEXT FRIDAY!!! The hours for Sept *should* be posted the 3rd Friday in February!!! Just in time for us to make our ADRs!!!!!

That's interesting about checking wristbands for the Wishes. So many people talk about hopping the monorail and watching it from there.

I wonder how people who had a dinner reservation and end up staying to watch from the beach feel about this.

Just an FYI... i called earlier to put in a room request with no issues at all. The agent advised me they are just requests not guaranteed- but that she would happily put a note in my rez, and even went on to recommend certain longhouses/floors.

Staying at the Poly for the first time (Jan. 31-Feb. 4). I have a question about the ferry from the Poly to MK and GF. Does the same ferry make stops at both locations or are there separate ones?

I know the castle won't have its holiday lights when we are there on Jan 28, but will the castle still be lit in different colors at night?

Also... friends who live in Orlando are coming to have dinner with us at Kona Cafe. Can they go on the boat with us over to the dock at MK without park tix?

Woohoo!! We're officially all set for our fall trip. After some date juggling, we'll be in a deluxe room at WL CL September 25-27 and then September 27-October 2 in two TPV CL rooms at the Poly!!! Can't wait!!!!!!

Wow, this is great! Looking forward to your impressions of CL at the Wilderness Lodge. And TPV CL at the Poly--I'm drooling :)

Like Minniebeth and Drmomof3, we were also at the Poly for marathon weekend (for our pre-schooler's birthday, but not the marathon!) My parents were huge Poly fans, and I stayed at the Poly multiple times throughout childhood and have great memories of our stays there. Since then, I've stayed at BC, WL and CSR multiple times each, and CBR and Sports once each. So it was very sentimental to return to the Poly and we had a wonderful visit!

We booked garden view and only made one request on our reservation - either balcony or patio. We checked in at 11am and expected our room would not be ready until much later. The very friendly CM at the front desk asked whether we would prefer balcony or patio and I said "balcony." Then I added that if there is any way to avoid a parking lot view, that would be great. She made a call and a bit later, told us that our room was not ready yet but that it's a great room! She was right! We were in 3607 in Samoa overlooking the volcano pool with a beautiful view of the lagoon and the GF. Really wonderful. Great location near GCH and Captain Cook's for refills and we didn't mind the walk to TTC at all - it was very pleasant.

No problems with the monorail, CMs, service at Kona (lunch), Ohana (breakfast), the sushi bar (late dinner) or Captain Cooks (everything) - all were great. No problems with the room. I would not have noticed the "wear" on the furniture if I wasn't on these boards and looking for evidence of it. No concerns about cleanliness, mousekeeping, etc.

BC is our favorite resort and the best fit for our family, but we were extremely happy with our Poly stay. It's evident why so many BC fans also like Poly and vice versa. We have dinner ADRs in Epcot nearly every night of our trips, so the BC location works well for us. But the Poly rooms are quite noticeably larger, and my husband prefers the Poly room decor. I prefer the BC room decor, but will miss the Poly space. Our three boys are ages pre-school to pre-teen, so we like to walk to both Epcot and DHS from BC. While we still prefer walking, we had no difficulty with the monorail during our Poly stay, even during marathon weekend (and I agree with minniebeth that the Poly lobby was very crowded that morning!) It's tough to evaluate the bus service - we waited longer for a bus at Poly than we usually do at BC, but we didn't use the bus much so I'm not sure that's representative.

I'm happy to try to answer any questions! (And I checked both the gift shop and Captain Cook's for the string cheese a previous poster asked about - couldn't find any!)

P.S. As far as we could tell, the tiki torches were all lit at night. Maybe a more frequent Poly guest could detect gaps, but we could not - it was very nice.

We are booked at Poly in August with a TPV, which longhouse should I request? Also I really like the idea of a first floor room but I am afraid I might be compromising my view by being on the ground floor, is the 3rd floor better for a view of the castle and MK?

Consider it researching the resort so you will be better informed!:cutie:

That is great news! Where do you find that link?

Pixarmom thanks looking for the string cheese for me and also for the good report. It has been so nice reading more positive reviews lately. Glad you had a nice trip! :)

Oh I'm glad I found this thread, I'm thinking of cheating on the GF with the Poly. One question please my son loves the monorail and and is an avid swimmer isn't there a building that faces the monorail and is close to the volcano pool, sorry if this question is funny, I've been up all night with DD (poor baby was sick), thanks friends.

Rarotonga would have rooms that face the monorail and would be closer to the volcano pool. Aotearoa also has some monorail facing rooms but is a bit farther to the volcano pool. Sorry your DD is sick.

Hi everyone!! Just checking in for my Disney/Poly fix! I miss it so much. Currently planning for June 2012, it seems so far away! :upsidedow
