ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

3 more days (more like 2 as our flight is at 6am on Monday morning)! Can hardly wait, but based on Maia Papaya's photo, we may need to rethink our packing!! It will still be warmer than it is here in MA!

We're leaving at 6am on Monday from NJ! Can't wait. Not sure how it's going to work out waking my DD3 up at 3:30am though, lol.

I see you're from MA, my brother and sister-in-law are actually leaving from Boston that day around noon and meeting us there.

5 weeks from yesterday we arrive at Poly for our 1st CL stay. I'm so excited!!! I'm running my 1st 1/2 marathon that weekend and hoping not to freeze. ;)

What snacks and stuff might we want for our room that won't be available from the lounge? I'm thinking bottled water and maybe some little bags of goldfish for the kids. Suggestions?

We'll be down there just after you, arriving on the 13th also staying CL. :cool1: When we stayed CL in Aug we brought lots of snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, trail mix) and never even touched them. We happen to be the type that go back mid day to refresh so would just grab a few cups of what ever was in the lounge and bring them back to our room. As pp's have mentioned (and shown) there's goldfish, cookies, sometimes gummy sharks, yogurt covered pretzels, chips, and there is always fruit and beverages available. We brought with us reusable drink bottles for each and then grabbed a few bottles from CL staff each AM (or PM the night before) and would fill those for use in the parks. If you also ask CL staff in the mornings they will give you uncrustables that are still packaged so you can bring those with you into the park (was great for my picky guy). Just remember to bring with you empty ziplocks so you can put the treats you grab from the lounge in something transportable to the parks.

Good luck in the marathon!

What is a good indication that it may be too cold to swim?

Well, we have a saying. It isn't too cold to swim until the Canadians say it is. :lmao: This pic is priceless!

Thanks for the info about the cabanas. :thumbsup2

Hello Amanda from the BC thread! We'll be at the Poly for Marathon Weekend too! (Except not for the marathon - for our youngest son's bday.) We'll be back at BC for our regularly scheduled trip in February, but wanted to do something different for the bday trip. It's been many years since I've stayed at the Poly and we're very excited!

Good luck with the 1/2 marathon! :wizard:

Thank you for the helpful answers! I'll probably still buy bottled water since my 72 year old mother is a bit crazy about having her bottle of water. But good to know we can refill the bottles and pick up snacks! I love the suggestion of bringing zip locks.
I'm in charge of planning this trip for 7 (my family of 5 plus my parents) and it gets a bit stressful since everyone just expects me to make it all happen. Work has been insanely busy and we celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas so I'm in the midst of holiday madness!!! I love being able to get quick info here!
Pixarmom - will you be CL? Will we finally meet? (I'm too tired at the moment to remember your name and I feel bad about that!) we'll probably go back to bc for our August trip but I thought monorail would be better for my mom, esp since she's always wanted to stay at Poly.

Amanda

Our first day at the Poly hasn't been perfect but we are glad to be here. Arrived at 10:25 this morning. Our room wasn't ready but our friends room was. So we stored our stuff in their room and went to Epcot, since we were told they would text us. Text never came, carpet between the beds is wet, and patio door not working well. No apology for not getting the text, and no response to the wet carpet.

Otherwise, room was clean, Mickey towel animal on the bed and the folks in the club level lounge are very nice and accommodating.

Now it is time for bed. I have been up since 2 am and the kids since 4.

I will try to report again tomorrow.

Had the carpet in your room been cleaned that morning? I wonder why the carpet was wet. Curious? I have always found the "texts" to be hit or miss. Our room is usually ready when we arrive or as we are doing check-in it becomes available. We have had the very late in the day experience in the past though and that wasn't fun.

It is so great to arrive early on your first day, but the downside is getting up so darned early to do so. Hope the rest of your vacation is without a hitch. Looking forward to hearing from you when you have time.

I was under the impression that the carpet had been cleaned.

Kids are up and ready to get going. I need to get DH up, grab breakfast in the lounge and go have another fun day.

We are getting so excited for our first Poly stay!!!

Quick question- My Father in law lives in Florida and he plans to come visit us Saturday night and then again on Sunday morning. Will he have an issue parking at the Poly? I just realized he wouldn't have dinner ressies or be a guest.. wasn't sure if it would be an issue.

We got up got dressed and went to the lounge for breakfast. When we got back from breakfast our room had already been cleaned. We were so pleased. Maintenance came by to install a new shower head. He said he was installing new ones in all the rooms.

Spent the day in Epcot again. When we got back to the room our beds were turned down which didn't happen the first night.

The kids loved the ducks coming up to the patio door. One duck in particular tried coming in the room.

Today at Epcot I met Slightly Goofy who is a regular poster on the Dis. She was so nice and she gave my kids a little gift.

It won't be a problem at all. We had a friend visiting us while we stayed. Your visitor should indicate to the guard at the entrance that he is visiting guests at the Polynesian and give your name. He will then be directed to the parking lot. There was no problem when our guest arrived.

We're so excited!! We booked our 2nd vacation to the Poly!! We're staying TPV from May 17th - 27th!! We requested Tuvalu ground floor again... We can't wait!!!

We will be Staying at the Poly for the first time in January. We usually stay at one of the EPCOT resorts but after going through this threat I am waiting impatiently for the start of our trip.

We just got back yesterday and I wanted to let you know that our stay at the Poly was fabulous for the 4th time in a row. We stayed from Tuesday-Sunday.

We stayed in Somoa (my request) 3607 on the third floor. Wow! What an amazing view of the volcano pool, the Grand, and the lagoon and gardens.

Our room was really clean and a towel mickey to greet us. We also go a super cute elephant and monkey hanging from a hanger. My daughter was thrilled. It was nice to finally have a shower head over my head.:thumbsup2

The Hawaiian music was nice and loud to be heard all over the resort and under the water in the pool.

The view of the fireworks and seeing Tinkerbell from the beach - priceless.

The Kona was really good. Captain Cooks was good.

The Christmas decorations were stunning there and more than I expected. Wreaths and garland adorned the outside with a couple of trees added to the inside of the GCH. Pointsettias were very pretty.

Our stay was wonderful!

mickey2minnie1, I am so glad you guys had a great trip! :wizard:

WDW really is magical during this time of year :santa:

I follow this thread as best I can, but I must confess to not carefully reading every page, so I'm sorry if this topic has been discussed...

Has anyone done a resort photopass session at the Polynesian? My family has a session booked in January and I was wondering if anyone could share their experience, tips, photos, etc.

Any informaton would be appreciated!
Thanks!~:flower3:

Thanks for the report! Info like this is always appreciated! I am anxious/ eager for our upcoming stay. Starting Wed., we have two nights at the GF and then 6 nights at the Poly for our first stay there. I have dreamed of the Poly since I was a little girl and that was "where the rich people stayed." :rotfl: But you do hear mixed reviews and so I am anxious to see what our opinion will be. The closer we get, the more I think I am just over thinking it :surfweb: and being silly, and we will fall in love with it, I'm sure! It always helps to hear nice reports like this one. :)

Going from April 23rd to May7th 2011, staying CL. Traveling will be me and DW, DD-8y and DS 18.
I was happy to find this thread. Reviews vary so much from tragic to excellent so for a time was a bit worried we made the wrong (expensive) choice but starting to feel better now.
With 18 degrees Celsius below zero, wind and snow here the idea of a tropical "get away" is what keeps us getting up in the morning.....
Not trying to think of the 20-22 hours of travel time by air to get there, kind of focusing on the arriving part.

Warm wishes from very cold Norway to you all.
