ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Ours in an anniversary trip too!! DD didn't believe us at first when we told her we were going without them :confused3 What? They have school :lmao:

We would LOVE to do that, but our DS16 would be the ugliest, moodiest, maddest teenager on the planet if we did! He is probably the biggest Disney fan in the family, so it would not be a pretty situation! :sad2:

On a better note..... we check in on Sunday, so only 3 more days to go!! :yay:

We are going in Oct for our first time at Poly. We were going to request balcony room, Tokalau.

However, our primary concern is really quiet. Is there any point in requesting "quiet" or is that just too vague?

Honestly, I don't think any one longhouse is more quiet than the next. Quiet really depends on your neighbors. Once the door to the outside areas are closed you won't hear pool, guest noises from outside. The problem with noise comes into play with those folks who are less than quiet while traversing the inside hallways.

If you want the farthest removed longhouse with the greatest potential for quiet, I would ask for Rapa Nui. I would, personally, prefer your choice, Tokelau. If you are concerned about "pool noise", request an east side room. :thumbsup2

That's kind of what we thought. We had a really bad experience, not at DIS, where two families with rooms down the hall from each other, seemed to think they also rented the hallway when they rented the rooms. The left their doors open (so you could hear their really loud tvs all the time) and the kids ran back and forth between the two rooms.

Why do people do that???:confused3

I guess we learned if that happens, request to move before it ruins the rest of your vacation!

Thats the same reaction I got from my two teens when we told them about the trip..

LOL I have one of those he will be 17 in Oct! He is pretty angry and is begging us to book another trip since they have all these discounts out! Now he says we "can" go as long as we bring him some rolling stones tshirts back from G.B pavillion in Epcot, isnt it nice we have his permission finally?:rotfl2:

I might also suggest that you request a top floor room so no one is above you. I have definitely heard people above our room at the Poly but it never interfered with our sleep and it was just some shuffling or walking around noises - nothing too loud. I also had the 1st floor end room next to the beach in Tokelau and while that is a well-traveled hallway, it rarely got too noisy. But then again, we aren't doing naps during the day anymore and that might be a concern if our kids were still napping (we just 'rest' instead now).

What, and when is the best way to make room requests? Call the Poly front desk directly? And should I call close to the beginning of my stay?

We're going with my dad who is 72, and doesn't get around too well. I'm hope for a 1st floor, somewhere near the GCH.

Just Call 407-W-DISNEY now, and ask them to note it on your reservation. Then call back a few days before your trip to confirm.

jkstewart1800: Thanks!!!!!

Do the movies continue into September?

What is the bug situation like? Will we need bug spray to watch the movies?

Packing and doing laundry...got the kids haircuts today....ordered my stroller from orlando stroller rental..double and triple checking my folder to make sure I have all my itineraries printed..plane confirmations..ADRs...gosh I am so excited I can't sleep!!! what to do next...what to do next.....

Damn the Gods of Indecision! Here I was thinking I was relatively set for our first trip to Poly in Sept. Everything booked, everything bought, relaxed. Then Disney up and emails me a PIN. I'm so  now my head hurts.

My head is hurting due to the PIN not saying it excluded CL rooms -- we're booked in a standard Garden View at the moment. Now I sit here wondering if it'd be worth it to upgrade. *shakes fist at Disney* What are you doing to me?!

*head-desk*

Tokelau would be a good choice. It is located at the east end of the quiet pool, close to the bus stop, and a short walk to the GCH. It is also closer to the pathway to TTC without being at the outer edge of the resort.

This sounds perfect! I wonder if it is too late to add a request? We are only a couple days away from check in....

If it's not too late would - balcony, Tokelau please be the way to word the request? We check in very late at night so our odds of getting a good room/location might be kind of small....

Just booked 5 nights at the Poly for the week before Thanksgiving. We did GV since I couldn't seem to rationalize the almost 100 dollars extra a night for Lagoon or CV. We had our AAA agent make the reservation for us though, so I didn't get the chance to request specifics. We know we want to be on the 3rd floor if at all possible. Do you think it'd be more prudent to ask for the 3rd floor request first and foremost, and then added onto that, a few preferences, longhouse wise?

I really think I need to look at a recent map of the Poly. I know one of the houses doesn't have an elevator, so that has to be out, since my DM is not good with stairs at all.....

We started off our trip at the Pop for 5 nights. We do really like the Pop except for a few things. Room size! Bed size! Towels and toilet paper! My kids also love the arcade at the Pop and were disappointed in the one at the Poly. We spent more time at the parks while at the Pop and more time enjoying the resort at the Poly. We stayed in Rarotonga for 7 nights. It was a far more used and abused building than where we stayed last year, Aotearoa. The carpet in the hallway was well stained. The paint was all chipping off around the door frame inside our room and wallpaper was chipped off. The inner curtain also had something brown splattered on it. Everything else was wonderful! Those little things will not get to us unless we paid rack rate. Then I might bother me a little. We had a view of the Monorail, as we did last yr. We were in 3819. My ds couldn't have been happier. We also had 2 maintenance issues. Our toilet just wouldn't flush (it wasn't clogged! Just wouldn't flush.) and the tub was clogged. They came very promptly and to fix the problem. The location of the room was perfect for this trip since DH had a broken ankle and this was great. Extremely easy access to our car in the parking lot. However, we don't think it would be our 1st choice again. We almost felt to secluded from the ambiance of the Poly. We like walking into the GCH and through the grounds to our room. We also had a lot of rain, so that made it a good location also. Ohana's was great. It took us a while to eat there, but we just wanted to be done to see the fireworks. We had an 8:05 ADR and finished at 9:45. Our server said we could stay and watch from there, but we didn't want to. We didn't wait long after we check in to get our table either. I went to order a drink and was just about to get waited on and it was time to go to our table. Captain Cooks was really good also, but I did get tired of their selections. We like most things plain and most of the sandwiches aren't half of what they are if they were plain. I ate a lot of flatbread pizza! It was good, but I just got tired of it. Of course we loved the pool. We spent a good amount of time in it. Most days we eventually snagged a table near it, but man people claim them early and don't give them up, even when they all leave at the same time w/ most of their stuff. That got really annoying. All in all we had a fantastic time. I cannot wait to go back! I'm really bummed about all the early release dates on discounts and none for summer. Being teachers, we always get stuck going during the most expensive times and most crowded. Oh well, not going there. So there you have my mini-review. I will try to post pictures when I get them off my memory card and onto my computer.

No it is not too late to add your request. You may be directed to call the Polynesian directly since the reservation has probably been pulled over to its system. You can also make the request at check-in and if there is availability, your assignment could be changed. Hope it all works out well for you. Have a great trip!
